The morning sun rose over the ocean, painting gold lines across the waves. The boat swayed gently, archored close to a quiet island. Amina stood barefoot on the deck, the wind brushing against her face. For a moment, she forgot everything, the city her father, even the man who had changed her life without asking.
Faiz watched her from the doorway of the cabin, a cup of coffee in his hand. She she looked so peaceful it hurt him to disturb her. But he finally spoke, he voice low.
“Good morning.”
She turned, a little startled, then nodded. “Good morning.”
“Did you sleep well?”
She gave a small shrug. “The waves kept me awake… but it wasn’t bad.”
He smiled slightly.”Then the sea is winning your heart.”
Amina didn’t answer, only looked back at the endless blue. “Maybe it’s just quieter than people.”
He nodded, understanding more than she thought. For a while, they stood there in silence not cold silence, but the kind that means something.
After breakfast, Faiz showed her around the island they had stopped at a small, hidden paradise of palm trees, white sand, and a faint smell of salt and flowers. There were no crowds, no noise, no phones ringing.
Amina walked ahead of him, letting her feet sink into the wet sandy. The hem of her long dress brushed the water. He followed quietly, carefully not to break the fragile peace between them.
When they reached a quiet rock near the shore, she sat down. He stood beside her, watching the horizon.
“Why do you keep looking at me like that?” she asked, her tone calm but curious.
Faix took a deep breath.
“Because I’m trying to remember the last time I saw something… pure.
She blinked, unsure how to answer.” You shouldn’t say things like that.”
“Why not?”
“Because words like that come with promises,” she said softly. And promises… they hurt when they break.”
He looked at her then really looked at the quie strength in her eyes, the calm in her voice. “Then maybe I’ll stop making promises and start proving them.”
For a moment, their eyes met, not as strangers, not as husbands and wife forced by circumstance, but as two souls standing between what was broken and what might be still healed.
The wind grew softer, carrying the smell of the sea and the sound of prayer from a distant shore.
“Let’s go back,”she said finally. “It’s getting late.”
He nodded, but his heart was somewhere else between the waves, where he had realized that this girl he once took by force might be the only person who could teach him what peace truly meant.
The evening, the ocean was calm, glowing silver under the moonlight. Amina stood at the edge of the boat, her reflection moving softly on the water. She could hear Faiz behind her,the faint sound of his footsteps and the rustling of his shirt in the wind.
He didn’t speak at first. He simply stood beside her, both of them watching the same endless horizon.
“It’s beautiful,”she whispered almost to herself.
“It is,” he said quietly.” But not as much as this moment.”
She turned to him, a faint frown crossing her face. “You always say things like that. Do you mean them?”
Faiz looked at her carefully. Amina, in my world, I never needed to mean things. I only needed to win. But with you… I mean every word, even when I shouldn’t.
She looked away, her heart tightening at his honesty. “Then why did you take my freedom?”
He exhaled slowly, his voice softer now. “Because I didn’t know another way to protect what I wanted.”
She turned sharply toward him. “ Protect?” You call this protection?”
“No,” he said, shaking his head.
“Not anymore. Now I call it regret.”
The silence that followed was heavy not angry, but filled with something real. The sound of the waves filled the space between them.
Amina spoke after a long pause.” You can’t change what happened,Faiz.”
“I know,” he said. “But I can change what happens next.”
She looked at him then really looked. For the first time, she saw the crack in his armor. The man who was looked untouchable now looked human.
And that frightened her more than anything.
When she eventually spoke, her voice was windless. “Then start by learning how to be kind… without trying to own.”
He smiled sadly. I’ll try.”
The night deepened. They sat quietly on the deck, the stars reflecting in the dark water. Faiz poured her a cup of warm tea and handed it to her carefully, without a word. She accepted it, that small gesture felt like a peace offering.
For the initially, Amina didn’t feel like a prisoner beside him. She just felt… uncertain. Perhaps curious.
Later, when she went to her room, she found a note on her bed.
“I know I can’t undo what I’ve done. But if you ever find peace here, even for a moment, then maybe there’s hope for me too.”
She folded the note quietly, her heart heavier than before, and looked out the window at the sea.
For the first time since they met, she whispered his name softly, not in anger, but in thought.
“Faiz…”
And somewhere outside, sitting alone on the deck,Faiz lifted his head as if he had heard her voice.
The morning came bright and silent, the kind of silence that hides warning in its beauty. The sky was gray at the edges, the waves heaving, rolling deeper than before.
Amina stood on deck, the wind whipped at her scarf, when Faiz came beside her. He glanced at the horizon dark clouds forming in the distance.
“ we should head back soon,” he said.
She nodded. “ Yes, I think the sea is changing.”
But the time they turned the boat toward the mainland, the sky had already turned black. The first crack of thunder split the air, and heavy rain began to pour. The waves rose sharply, the boat rocking violently.
“Hold on!” Faiz shouted, rushing to the wheel. Amina clutched the side rail, her heart racing as the wind screamed around them.
The storm grew fierce, the ocean swallowing the stars, the world spinning between water and wind. She could barely see him through the rain, his face tense, focused every part of him fighting the sea.
Then a wave hit. The boat tilted sharply, throwing Amina off balance. She cried out, slipping but Faiz caught her, his arm wrapping around her just in time.
“I’ve got you!” he yelled over the storm.
She held onto him, terrified. For the first time, her life was literally in his hands and upprecedented, he wasn’t the one to fear.
Hours seemed to pass before the storm finally began to calm. The rain softened, the waves eased, and at last the sky broke open with pale morning light.
Amina sat trembling on the floor of the cabin, soaked and silent. Faix knelt beside her breathlessly, his arm bleeding slightly from a cut he hadn’t noticed.
“You’re safe,” he said softly.
She looked at him. His soaked clothes, his tired eyes, the quiet relief in his voice. Something in her chest shifted. She didn’t speak, but she didn’t pull away either.
That night, they slept on the boat, beside each other but in peace. When they reached home next day,she thanked him quietly before walking inside.
Faix said nothing, but he smiled because for the first time she had thanked him, with smile.
...----------------...
A week passed. The sea faded into memory, and life in Kuala Lumpur returned to rhythm. Amina went back to her university, carrying with her the strange calm the ocean had left behind.
She didn’t see Faiz much he had returned to his business, his world of meetings and silence. But something about him had changed too; he didn’t demand her time anymore.
At university life felt almost normal again.
And that’s when she met him.
It’s started simply a book that slipped from her hands in the library, and someone picked it up before she could.
“ Here,” he said, smiling politely. “You dropped this.”
He was around her age, with calm brown eyes and a gentle presence that didn’t feel heavy.
“Thank you,” she said softly.
He nodded. “You like reading a lot, don’t you?”
She smiled faintly.” It’s quite here. I like it quite.”
“Same here,” he said, sitting across from her at another table.” I’m Adam.”
“Amina,” she replied.”
