Coffee, Chaos & Confessions

**Chapter 4: Coffee, Chaos & Confessions**

The following evening, Sia stood outside Café Moonlight, gripping her phone as if it were her last bit of courage. The café appeared inviting, with fairy lights twinkling above the entrance, soft music wafting out, and couples scattered at tables sharing whispers over cappuccinos.

She glanced at her reflection in the glass door. “Alright, Sia,” she whispered to herself. “It’s not a date. Just coffee. Completely casual. No butterflies. No blushing.” Her heart, however, had other ideas.

Just then, a familiar voice called out from behind her, “Talking to yourself again?” She turned around to see Aarav. He was dressed in a simple black hoodie, his hair slightly tousled, and wearing a rare, easy smile that made her forget her pep talk.

“Wow,” she said, blinking in surprise. “You actually came.”

He raised an eyebrow. “You sound surprised.”

“I thought you might send a Google Meet link instead,” she joked.

Aarav chuckled softly. “You think I can’t socialize in person?”

“I think you’d prefer solving a math problem over having coffee with a girl.”

He pretended to sigh dramatically. “You’re not entirely wrong.”

She grinned. “I’ll take that as a compliment.”

Inside, the café was filled with the aroma of roasted coffee beans and vanilla. They settled at a table by the window. Sia ordered a caramel frappe, while Aarav opted for black coffee, as usual.

“So,” she began, stirring her drink, “do you ever do anything fun? Or are you allergic to enjoyment?”

“I read for fun,” he replied, completely serious.

She stared at him. “You’re impossible.”

He smirked. “And yet, here you are.”

Sia rolled her eyes but smiled. “Touché.”

Their conversation flowed surprisingly well, covering topics like college chaos, irritating professors, and random aspirations. Aarav listened more than he spoke, but when he did, his insights had a depth that intrigued Sia.

At one point, she said softly, “You know… you’re different when you’re not acting like you have a stick up your—”

He choked on his coffee, laughing mid-sip. “Sia!”

“What? I was just saying you seem more human now,” she replied innocently.

He shook his head, still smiling. “You’re unbelievable.”

Their laughter faded into a comfortable silence, while the sky outside turned shades of orange and pink. Sia rested her chin on her hand. “You know, I used to think you hated people.”

“I don’t hate them,” Aarav said quietly. “I just… don’t trust easily. Everyone wants something.”

She blinked. “And what do you expect?”

He met her gaze — steady and unreadable. “Honesty.”

Something in his tone made her chest tighten. She swallowed hard. “Then you’re safe with me.”

He smiled faintly. “Am I?”

She wasn’t sure how to respond to that.

Just then, a loud voice called out, “Siaaa!” Her best friend Riya appeared, holding hands with her boyfriend. “Oh my God, you’re here with Aarav? The Aarav Sharma?”

Sia’s face turned bright red. “Riya, not now—”

But Riya just grinned. “We’ll leave you two lovebirds! Enjoy your date!”

As they walked away, Sia buried her face in her hands. “I’m going to kill her.”

Aarav looked amused. “Lovebirds, huh?”

“Don’t even start,” she groaned. “She has a wild imagination.”

He leaned in closer. “Does she?”

Sia froze. His tone was teasing but gentle — and he was way too close. Her heart raced. “W-What are you implying?”

“Nothing,” he said with a small smile, leaning back. “Just observing.”

They finished their coffee, but neither wanted to leave. As they stepped out into the cool evening air, Sia admitted, “Okay, I’ll admit it. This was… nice.”

“Better than studying?” he asked.

“Barely,” she teased, then added softly, “But you smiled. That’s progress.”

Aarav looked at her for a long moment. “You make it hard not to.”

Her breath caught. For a brief moment, the world around them faded — it was just their eyes communicating.

Then her phone buzzed.

📩 Riya: Tell me EVERYTHING!

Sia laughed nervously. “Well, duty calls.”

Aarav smiled. “I’ll walk you back.”

They strolled side by side under the streetlights, sharing a comfortable silence — just the soft sound of their footsteps and a budding connection that felt like the start of something special.

That night, Sia lay in bed, staring at the ceiling, her heart still racing.

Her phone lit up again.

📩 Aarav: You were right. Coffee helps.

📩 Sia: Told you. I’m always right.

📩 Aarav: Goodnight, sunshine.

She smiled so widely it hurt. Maybe it wasn’t a date, but it was definitely more than just coffee.
