Aarya stepped out of the school building with a steady breath. The sun felt warmer than she remembered. Maybe it was because, this time, she wasn’t walking into an uncertain future… she was walking toward her own power.
Her old self used to shrink in the hallways, invisible and quiet.
Now? People stared — not out of pity, but surprise.
Aarya’s chin lifted a little higher.
She still felt that strange moment with Adrian replaying in her mind — the electric touch, those stormy eyes watching her like she mattered.
Who was he in this life?
Would he change her fate?
Or was she still alone in this battle?
No. Not alone anymore.
She had herself.
And that was enough.
When she reached home, the living room was filled with tension. Her father sat with bills scattered on the table, frustration all over his face.
As soon as he saw her, he snapped, “Where were you? Your mother said you refused to work!”
Aarya didn’t flinch.
“I’m focusing on my studies.”
Her father scoffed. “Studies? You think you will magically become someone important? This house runs because we taught you discipline!”
Her brother laughed from the sofa.
“Discipline? You mean using her like a servant?”
Aarya’s heart still hurt hearing him. In her first life, she would’ve chosen silence. But not anymore.
“I’ll make sure I become someone you can’t control,” she said quietly. “Wait and watch.”
Her father slammed his fist on the table.
“You dare speak to me like that—!”
“Enough!” her mother barked. “She’ll do what we say! Her future is already decided!”
Aarya’s smile was cold.
Not this time.
She walked away, hearing them shout after her. But every insult only fed the fire inside her chest.
Tonight, she opened her old textbooks — familiar pages from a life she had already lived.
She whispered to her younger self from the mirror:
“You know the future.
Use it.
And win.”
The next morning, she found Adrian leaning against the school gate — like he was waiting. His eyes flicked to her instantly.
“You look different today,” he said flatly.
Aarya raised an eyebrow. “Good different or bad different?”
He studied her for a moment longer.
“…Strong,” he replied.
Her heart stuttered.
No one had ever called her that.
Before she could respond, he handed her a notebook that had fallen from her bag yesterday.
“You forgot this.”
“Thank you,” she said softly.
He nodded once and walked away, but not before she caught the hint of a rare, almost hidden smile.
Aarya touched the notebook to her chest.
Maybe… just maybe…
this second life wasn’t only about revenge.
Maybe it was a chance to finally live.
