Chapter 4 — Eyes That Start to Notice

The school corridors were buzzing — and for once, it wasn’t about gossip or drama.

It was about her.

“Aarya topped again?”

“She’s beating even the scholarship kids!”

“I didn’t even know she spoke this much!”

Aarya heard every whisper, but kept her focus straight ahead.

Let them talk — she was busy building her future.

After school, she headed to the library, arms full of books. Just as she reached the door, someone gently took the top stack from her hands.

She turned — and there he was.

Adrian Knight.

He didn’t say anything at first, but his eyes were studying her… like she was a puzzle he wanted to solve.

“You’re working too hard,” he finally said.

Aarya’s lips curved a little. “Or maybe everyone else isn’t working hard enough.”

Adrian held her gaze for a longer moment than necessary.

“You’re different,” he murmured.

Aarya tilted her head. “You keep saying that.”

“Because,” he stepped closer, lowering his voice, “I’m trying to figure out who you really are.”

Her heart skipped — just once.

But she didn’t let it show.

“You’re wasting your time,” she said, walking past him into the library.

Adrian’s voice followed her:

“I don’t think so.”

For a second… she forgot how to breathe.

Why was he noticing her?

In her first life… he was nowhere in her story.

Maybe destiny wanted something new this time.

During the next class, the teacher noticed Aarya breezing through exercises no one else could solve.

“Aarya, would you come to the board and explain?”

Without hesitation, she stood up. The chalk danced in her hand — clear steps, precise reasoning. Students watched in astonishment.

Even the teacher stammered, “Exactly correct… Very impressive.”

Aarya returned to her seat, calm, but inside?

A tiny spark of happiness glowed.

For once, people were looking at her with respect — not contempt.

From two rows away, Adrian was staring — chin resting on his hand, eyes unreadable.

She met his gaze briefly.

He smirked — just a hint.

Her stomach flipped.

No.

She knew better.

Love was a trap.

She broke eye contact quickly, staring straight ahead.

This life was hers now.

No distractions.

No attachments.

Especially not with a boy who looked like trouble wrapped in perfection.

But still…

her ears burned red for the next ten minutes.

When the final bell rang, Aarya walked out with new determination.

Tomorrow, she would study even harder.

She would grow even stronger.

Because glowing up was nice…

…but making every bad person regret losing her?

That was priceless. 😌

Behind her, Adrian watched her leave — curiosity turning into something deeper.

He whispered to no one:

“I want to know everything about you, Aarya.”

And destiny? It quietly smiled.
