As the days passed, both Heeseung and Suzy found themselves drowning deeper in tension and uncertainty. Every conversation between them felt heavier than before, filled with hidden emotions and unspoken truths. But among all the confusion, one thought haunted them the most — how were they ever going to tell their partners about this?
On Heeseung’s side, things were no better.
It was already past midnight, yet sleep refused to come to him. The room was silent except for the faint sound of the night wind brushing against the curtains. He sat on the edge of his bed, lost in thought, replaying every moment in his head again and again. For days, he had been avoiding Ayeong, unable to face her properly. His heart felt restless, trapped between fear and guilt.
He was terrified of ruining everything before it could even begin.
More than anything, he regretted not taking the first step sooner. Maybe if he had been honest earlier, things would have been different now.
He clenched his fists tightly as a silent tear slipped down his cheek.
The next morning, sunlight poured into his room through the half-open curtains. He slowly opened his eyes and grabbed his phone, only to realize it was already 11 AM.
He groaned softly and buried himself back into the blanket, not wanting to face another exhausting day. After lying there for hours, he finally forced himself to get up and freshen up.
Just as he stepped out of his room, he heard a girl’s voice coming from downstairs.
His tired eyes instantly lit up.
“Ayeong…?”
Without wasting another second, he hurried toward the stairs, hope filling his chest. But the moment he reached the hallway, the hopeful expression on his face slowly faded.
It was Suzy.
“Don’t you think you overslept?” Suzy asked casually, though she herself looked pale and weak, almost as if she had lost half her energy overnight.
Heeseung sighed softly before forcing a smile.
“Who says who?” he replied. “May I know the reason behind your sudden visit, my lady?”
Despite the playful tone, the sadness in his eyes was impossible to hide.
Suzy rolled her eyes lightly. “Your mother told me to check on you. I can’t just let my fiancé die alone, can I?”
He chuckled quietly and walked over to sit beside her on the couch.
“Well, I’m fine,” he said with a smile that clearly failed to hide the pain buried deep inside him.
Suzy stared at him for a moment before smirking.
“Seriously? Do you think I’m Ayeong? Someone who blindly believes everything you say without noticing the truth?”
Heeseung looked away immediately.
“And anyways…” she continued, leaning back against the couch, “you were expecting Ayeong, weren’t you? The disappointment on your face was painfully obvious.”
A faint blush spread across his cheeks.
“Shut up,” he muttered.
Suzy laughed softly. “So you really were waiting for her.”
Heeseung sighed in defeat before changing the topic.
“You look better now. So… should I drop you home, or are you leaving by yourself?”
“Tsk. Why are you in such a hurry?” Suzy said before her expression slowly turned serious.
“I actually came here because there’s something you need to know.”
Heeseung frowned slightly. “What is it?”
“It’s about Ayeong.”
His heartbeat suddenly quickened.
“She’s dating someone else.”
For a moment, everything around him felt silent.
“Huh…? Who?”
Suzy leaned closer, her voice barely above a whisper.
“Your best friend, Jay.”
She paused before adding the final blow.
“She was only close to you because she wanted to get closer to him.”
