Chapter 3

The hot sun was beating on my skin as I sat on an uncomfortable metal chair trying to fake a smile. My, well Roseilia’s mother, Mimi insisted that I attend this tea party that is being held by Ethel Lancar, a friend of one of the daughters of a consort of the Queen. Mimi of course along with my father weren’t at the tea party, they weren’t even in the country. Apparently they’re on a business trip in the nearby country of Mycinia.

And so here I am staring into my teacup, contemplating the choices that led up to this. Meanwhile Marina, who I am so grateful for helping me learn to adjust to this new world was sitting with her back to a nearby tree with Annie nestled comfortably in her lap reading.

Earlier I sent a letter to Princess Allia and Prince Xander, the eldest children of Queen Rose and her husband King Alexander to discuss the possibility of them helping me break my engagement with their little brother, Arwin. I do hope that they reply but for now I am left waiting. Oh! My thoughts are interrupted by a tap on my shoulder.

"Hello, Miss Roseilia." A female voice said. I look up and I see a familiar face smiling at me. Liliana. "

H-hi?" I asked surprised.

"It’s been a long a long time since I last saw you." Liliana said still smiling widely.

"I saw you last month?" I responded bewildered.

"Oh, yes you’re right I must have forgotten." Liliana said. That isn’t like Liliana.

"Have you heard of Ellia’s upcoming wedding?" Liliana asked.

"Yeah, it’s in a year isn’t it?" I responded.

"Yes, once she and Charles are of age, you will be attending won’t you?" She asked me leaning close to me.

"Yeah." I stammered. Why is she acting like this?

"Come walk with me." Liliana said and next thing I knew I was walking by her side.

"You look nice today." Liliana said with an odd smile.

"Th-thank you, you too." I replied awkwardly.

"I heard that you are breaking your engagement?" Liliana said seemingly teasingly. She seemed to regard me with an odd sort of familiarity and fondness despite the fact that we had never had any sort of close or positive relationship. It was so very offputting.

"O-oh?" I said flustered.

"Yeah, how come, though?" She asked.

"Well, for one he’s so much younger, when he’s finally of age I will be 29 and if I’m completely honest I’m not in love with him and I never will be, he’s a sweet child but I feel disgusted at even the thought of a romantic relationship with someone who I’ve known since they were a small child and it makes me feel ill even if the romantic aspect doesn’t begin until he is of age." I admitted. Liliana’s face softened.

"I understand, I’ll offer my support if you’d like it." Liliana said as she waved goodbye. I awkwardly waved goodbye back as I watched her walk away. Well that was f*cking weird.
