Virginia walked into her husband's study carrying a cup of tea. When she saw Antonio smiling to himself, she couldn't help but feel a pang of jealousy.
She walked over to the desk and gave a quick glance at his computer screen.
"Since when do you sit here laughing to yourself?"
Antonio wiped the smile from his lips and grabbed his wife by the waist, pulling her down onto his lap.
"You're not going to believe what just happened," Antonio whispered.
"As long as it wasn't some mistress writing to you, everything's fine," Virginia murmured.
Antonio narrowed his eyes and said:
"Are you jealous?"
Virginia looked him straight in the eyes and answered:
"If I catch you again with that smile on your face while you're staring at your computer or your phone -- yes."
"Ha, ha, ha."
Antonio burst out laughing.
"My love, after all these years of marriage, you think I'd have eyes for another woman?"
Virginia wrapped her arms around her husband's neck, bringing her lips close to his.
"I certainly hope so, darling. Because if you ever so much as glance at another woman, I swear on everything I hold dear that you'll be left without your balls."
When she finished speaking, Virginia gave Antonio a passionate kiss. After they pulled apart, Antonio whispered:
"Who would have thought? My submissive little wife turned into a fierce lioness."
Virginia smiled and caressed her husband's cheek.
"Now tell me -- why were you smiling so happily?"
"Guess who sent me a business proposal?" Antonio asked his wife with a hint of mystery.
"I already told you -- as long as it's not one of your exes, we're perfectly fine," Virginia replied.
"Sarah... Do you remember her?" Antonio said.
"Oh, yes... How could I forget her? Sarah was always so kind to me."
"I'd say she was a true friend."
"Such a shame what happened with Miguel," Virginia said.
"Well, she now has a small company in Italy, and she wants to do business with me."
"Are you going to?" Virginia asked curiously.
"Yes," Antonio answered, then added:
"I think I owe it to Miguel."
"I hope they can finally clear up that misunderstanding from that night," Virginia said.
"But there's something else -- something that's going to knock Miguel flat on his ass," Antonio said excitedly.
Virginia looked at him with a confused expression.
"Sarah didn't have an abortion like Miguel thinks."
"While we were on the video call discussing the business she wanted to propose, a beautiful little girl came out of one of the rooms."
"She said, word for word: 'Mommy, can you come? Marcelo is having nightmares.'"
"So Sarah didn't have just one child -- she had two. Both Miguel's."
Stunned, Virginia broke into a smile. It was almost too much -- imagining the look on Miguel's face when he found out he was the father of two beautiful children.
"And how do you know those children aren't another man's?" Virginia asked.
After all, Sarah could have remarried and gotten pregnant again.
"That little girl's resemblance to Miguel is unmistakable. Though she has some of Sarah's features too."
Virginia was thrilled to learn that Sarah hadn't lost Miguel's children.
"I hope they can talk, for those two children's sake."
While Virginia and Antonio were talking, Miguel had gone to visit his parents to try to explain what was happening with Alondra.
When he arrived, the first thing he saw was Alondra's parents' car parked in the driveway.
It wasn't hard to imagine what was going on inside. He got out of the car and walked to the main entrance.
When he stepped in, he overheard the conversation his parents were having with his current wife's parents.
"What your son has done to my daughter is humiliating."
"Alondra doesn't deserve this kind of humiliation after being part of your family for four years."
"We don't understand what's going on with our son. He wasn't like this before. We hardly recognize him. But rest assured, there will be no divorce -- especially now that Alondra is expecting a child," Miguel's father said.
"Alondra and I are both grown adults. You shouldn't be gathering to discuss our marriage." When they heard Miguel's voice, everyone turned to look at him.
"If you handled things properly, we wouldn't be here!" Alondra's father stood up, showing his displeasure with Miguel's decision.
"As far as I know, I haven't done anything wrong. Or have I?"
"Four years ago, everyone in this room -- including your daughter -- made a deal. Or have you forgotten?"
Everyone present remembered that day.
"My daughter Alondra is willing to marry your son Miguel in order to grow both companies. Everything will be a matter of convenience for both families."
"The contract will be valid for four years only. If either party refuses to divorce, both families will support whichever party wishes to end the agreement."
They all exchanged glances, and Alondra's father was the one who spoke:
"That was four years ago. Things have changed. My daughter is pregnant, and my grandchild will not grow up without a father."
Miguel smiled mockingly and said:
"Then have your daughter sign the divorce papers and go find her child's real father. That is, if she can figure out who he is -- considering how many men have already been through her bed."
Alondra's father was enraged by Miguel's words. He charged at Miguel and punched him square in the face.
"How dare you insinuate that my daughter is a whore?!"
Miguel covered his mouth, spitting out a bit of blood.
"I'm not insinuating anything. Your precious little daughter is a tramp. She's slept with every man who's crossed her path."
"The fact that you failed to raise her properly is not my problem."
Enraged, Alondra's father lunged at Miguel. He was not about to let him drag his daughter's name through the mud.
Much less degrade her the way he was doing. Alondra came from a respected family, and what Miguel was trying to do was unforgivable.
