The Morning Before..

Chapter 1 — The Morning Before

The house was quiet in a way that felt deliberate.

Jungkook stood by the window, fingers curled loosely around the edge of the curtain, watching the city wake up. Cars moved below like nothing monumental was about to happen—like his life wasn’t about to change shape forever.

Today was his wedding day.

Not the kind people dreamed of as children. There were no racing heartbeats or stolen glances across a crowded room. No whispered promises made in secret.

This wedding had been decided in boardrooms and signed in ink.

Still, his chest felt heavy.

Behind him, his wedding attire lay untouched on the bed—carefully chosen, perfectly fitted, impersonal in its perfection. Jungkook exhaled slowly and closed his eyes.

Kim Taehyung.

Even thinking his name carried weight.

People called Taehyung many things. Cold. Untouchable. Ruthless. An omega who ruled Kim Corporation with a steady hand and an expression that never cracked. Someone who had learned early that softness invited harm.

Jungkook had noticed something else the first time he met him.

Loneliness.

The memory came uninvited.

A long table. Glass walls. The hum of an air conditioner too loud in the silence. Jungkook remembered sitting straight-backed, hands folded neatly in front of him, surrounded by lawyers and advisors who spoke as if people were assets.

Then the door had opened.

Taehyung entered without hesitation.

Tailored suit. Calm steps. Eyes sharp and distant. He hadn’t looked at Jungkook immediately—only nodded politely to the room before taking his seat at the head of the table.

An omega who commanded space without raising his voice.

When Taehyung finally looked up, their eyes met.

Jungkook had smiled.

Not because he was confident.

But because it felt wrong not to.

Taehyung hadn’t smiled back.

He had studied Jungkook instead—quietly, carefully—like someone trying to understand a risk before agreeing to take it.

“You understand what this means,” one of the lawyers had said, sliding the contract forward. “As the household alpha, you will be expected to prioritize domestic stability. Your career—”

“I understand,” Jungkook had replied.

Taehyung’s gaze had sharpened then. “You don’t even want to read it?”

“I already have,” Jungkook said gently.

Something unreadable crossed Taehyung’s face. Not gratitude. Not relief.

Suspicion.

Alphas were not known for giving things up willingly.

Jungkook opened his eyes.

The present returned slowly.

He wondered if Taehyung was awake yet. If he was staring at the ceiling somewhere, mind already racing, walls already in place.

They barely knew each other.

Yet today, they would stand side by side and promise permanence.

Jungkook didn’t expect love.

He only hoped—for respect, for peace, for the chance to make Taehyung feel safe without ever demanding anything in return.

If love came later, he would accept it quietly.

If it never did, he would still stay.

Because this—this choice—had been his.

And somehow, deep in his chest, Jungkook already knew:

This marriage would not be easy.

But leaving would be harder.
