Two Lies, One Truth

..."What's your type?"...

That's the question that made me freeze. What kind of question was that?? Never mind that, but the pure shock that flashed my eyes could even be felt by a blind man. And that's saying something. I quickly snapped out of my daze, centering myself together before Cori spoke again.

"You don't have to answer, Oak. But that's my last question for you." He muttered, fiddling with the straw of his drink before his gaze went back to me. Was it always this hot outside? "Oh! Uhm... I-It's fine! Not the first time I've been asked that question. But I guess my type is... Someone who can take care of me and I can take care of them. I don't care what they look like as long as they love me. I-" "Are you gay or straight?" Cori asked, interrupting me before I could finish speaking... What did he just say?

"... Wha...?" I whispered, nearly choking on my Sprite as I finally processed what he said. "I asked if you were gay or straight? Or do you go both ways?" Cori spoke, leaning in slightly as he smirked at my reaction. Who did this guy think he is? The nerve!

"I-I mean what as in why would you ask that question, idiot. What conjured that into your brain?" I asked, hissing it under my breath as I felt the Sprite go down my throat roughly. "Just answer the question, sweetheart." Cori muttered, dropping his hand that propped his chin up to the table.

"Fine... I guess…. I don't care what gender. Like I said, I don't care about looks. Guy or gal, cat or dick." I finally answered, covering my mouth with my hand as I hid the blush creeping up my neck. "... Good." Cori replied in a mere whisper. What'd he just say? Did he say good? What does good mean? What the fuck is going on?

I was about to reply, only for my voice to be short-lived as the waiter came with our food. My stomach growled, showing how much I really was hungry without even thinking about it.

"Oh, let's dig in then." Cori chuckled out, sliding over my food before taking his. I huffed out an annoyed sound, only for my frown to turn upside-down as I took a bite of the chicken sandwich. Oh, how good it was to eat this again after so long...it still tastes the same. Buttery and salty, yet also spicy and creamy because of the Let Go's secret sauce that I always wanted to figure out. "It's still as good as I remember…" I muttered, quickly going in for a big bite on the other side of the burger. "You've been here before?" Cori asked, taking a bite out of his chicken sandwich.

"Yeah. I used to go all the time with my grandma until she moved out. My mom used to not have the time with me back then, so she'd always drop me off at Grandma's, and we'd always go around tasting foods from the city." I replied, taking his coleslaw from his tray and adding it to mine without him realizing.

"That's cool. You basically grew up as a foodie that hop restaurant to restaurant." Cori replied, not minding that I took his coleslaw as he bit into his sandwich. "Yeah, basically. It was always so fun. If I had the free time, I would definitely want to do that as a hobby."

We nodded and continued to eat. We had small chats, sometimes even some arguments about our opinions on things like shows and movies, but it was an overall fun time. We even talked about what's been going on in NYC again. Especially the murders going on around the city lately... It was strange though. The victims seem familiar to me, but when I brought up their names, Cori would just brush it off. Strange...

We finished eating, simply just chatting away as the moon got higher and the bar being close to closing. "Woah... Time really flew. I never bothered to talk for so long in years like just now." I finally spoke out, stretching my arms as a small whimper escaped my lips when my back stretched too far. "Ow..." I muttered, dropping my arms back down before looking at him. Weird... Cori was just staring at me with a look in his eyes. I was about to ask if he was okay, only to stop when he blinked and quickly snapped out of it.

"Hey..." Cori finally muttered, "Let me drive you home." He finally spoke out.
