Safe and sounded

"... What?"

"Please. It's late,, and I'm sure you walked here based on how dirty your shoes are." Cori replied, leaning in closer to my face as he gently held my hand. "I promise you it'll be fine. It's not like I'm a killer or anything."

"Well now you're making me more suspicious of you, dude." I replied, but not bothering to take my hand out of his grasp. "But fine... Only because you seem nice." Cori's eyes brightened up, his grasp on my hand tightening slightly before letting go. "Alright! Follow me. I already paid earlier." Cori spoke out, standing up and holding onto his keys. How'd he already pay when he was sitting right next to me the entire time? I quickly shrugged off the thought, getting up from my seat to start following him.

He led me to his car that was in a parking lot. It was a Corvette Stingray. I won't lie, he must be doing some jobs from rich people if he's able to afford something like that. "Woah, man... How'd you get this thing? It must've been crazy expensive!" I gasped out, gently running my hand over the smooth metal of the car.

"I got it for a hard bargain. It wasn't too bad, but I fixed it up a bit to run for my money." Cori replied, unlocking the door before opening the passenger side of the car for me. I gave him a curt nod, sliding in while he closed the door behind me. Once he entered, I spoke again, "Do you need my address? I can give it to you. Well... That's a dumb question since you don't kno-" "I know where you live. Don't worry," Cori butted in, turning on the car and starting to drive. How'd he know where I live? I've never really given my address away to anyone besides my family. As if he could read my face, he quickly responded back, "Don't worry. I've seen you walk before when I was driving home. We live nearby each other. I live in the neighborhood beside the apartment complex." Oh. Now that's not too bad. I do sometimes bike or walk to work, so maybe that's why he's seen me.

"Well, you had me thinking you were a creep stalking me or something. Had me scared there, Cori." I forced out, putting on my seatbelt and lightly gripping the leather. "Don't worry, I'm not that creepy... To you at least..." Cori muttered, whispering the last part under his breath before looking down at me. "Anyway, I know it's a short drive. So it'll be fast, and you'll get home soon."

I nodded, happy that I finally got to go home. I continued to hold small talk with him, now drilling into random things again like at the bar and what kind of jobs Cori did. But whenever I asked him his job, he'd always tighten his grip on the steering wheel and dodge the question. I tried brushing it off, seeing that some things are personal, and maybe it wasn't something he enjoyed too much.

...----------------...

We finally arrived at my apartment complex, seeing the large building with illuminating lights shine out compared to the other buildings surrounding it. I stepped out of the car, turning to his as I crouched down since I was technically taller than the car. "Thanks for driving me home. It saves me a bunch of time." I spoke out, kicking my foot slightly before hearing Cori's response.

"Of course. I'll see you everyday. Like always...Love you, Oak."

With that, I wave goodbye, completely not registering his last words as I entered the complex. I quickly scan in, rushing to my home before punching in the code, my birthday, and then jumping onto the couch.

I cuddled into the stomach of my cat, Princess Sugar Plum the Third, in courtesy of my sister, and took a deep breath in. "Gosh, I missed you, Princess..."

I murmured into the black cat's stomach, feeling her paw at my head before giving up and laying back down. I took the time to think back on my day. Feeling happy that I did something out of my mundane life and into something brand newer. The guy seemed nice, a little over the top with the questions, but people make mistakes and step over the boundaries.

.... That's when I freeze, thinking about his words and sentences he shared with me. Was he flirting with me? What did he just say before I left?.. Come on, think, Oak, think.... Fuck I can't remember... Whatever. It was probably some goodbye.

I sigh in defeat, closing my eyes one last time before passing out on the couch. Not bothering to take off my shoes.

...... Tomorrow is going to be a pain…...
