The Public Ambush

The evening air was crisp, but Taehyung felt a chill that had nothing to do with the weather. He had been invited to a charity event—a high-profile gathering that would bolster his family’s image. He tried to focus on the glittering crowd and sparkling chandeliers, but his instincts screamed that something was wrong.

He wasn’t wrong.

A whisper from a guest caught his attention. “So, I heard the new husband is… rather inexperienced. Poor thing must be terrified of his powerful CEO husband.”

Taehyung’s stomach twisted. The words weren’t just gossip—they were bait. And as his gaze scanned the crowd, he noticed the faint smirk on the face of someone he recognized: one of his sister’s hired provocateurs.

Before he could react, a waiter brushed past him, knocking over a tray of champagne glasses. The liquid spilled toward his expensive designer suit.

Taehyung froze, panic rising. “No—wait!”

From the shadows, Jungkook appeared like a phantom, his movements fluid and precise. In a single motion, he grabbed Taehyung by the arm and pulled him out of the way, letting the glasses shatter harmlessly on the floor.

“Are you trying to humiliate me?” Taehyung whispered, heart pounding.

Jungkook’s expression was unreadable, but his eyes burned with a possessive intensity. “Someone tried,” he said, voice low and controlled. “And I’ll make sure it doesn’t happen again.”

Taehyung’s sister had clearly planned this carefully. She wanted everyone to see him as weak, as someone who couldn’t handle the pressures of his new life. But Jungkook’s presence turned the tide.

The provocateur tried again, subtly tripping Taehyung near the stage, but Jungkook’s hand shot out instantly, catching him by the collar. With a cold glare sharp enough to freeze the air, Jungkook leaned close, whispering so only Taehyung could hear: “If anyone lays a hand on you, I won’t just stop them. I’ll make sure they regret it forever.”

Taehyung’s cheeks burned. The possessiveness in Jungkook’s voice sent a shiver down his spine. It was frightening—but also… thrilling.

By the end of the evening, the provocateurs had vanished, either scared off or cleverly intimidated by Jungkook’s quiet menace. Taehyung walked beside him silently, trying to process the emotions swirling in his chest.

Finally, Jungkook’s hand brushed against his back in a rare, protective gesture. “You see? Nothing can touch you as long as I’m around,” he said softly, though his voice carried that dangerous edge that made it clear he meant every word.

Taehyung glanced up at him, heart racing. “Why… do you always care so much?”

Jungkook’s gaze softened just enough to let a shadow of warmth through. “Because you’re mine,” he said simply, almost as a fact, not a declaration. “And no one gets to hurt what’s mine.”

That night, Taehyung realized something terrifyingly beautiful: in a world full of danger, lies, and betrayal, Jungkook was the only person he could truly rely on.

And deep down, a small, forbidden thought crept into his mind—he didn’t just want to rely on him. He wanted him.
