She asked her father where he was taking her to. He said that they were going to the Rohen Court. Her heart started beating faster, she has never been there before. She always dreaded going there.
No wonder her father didn’t answer her the first time she asked where they were going. He was worried about her, knowing that this court is not something to overlook upon. So he had reassured her instead, telling her that it’s nothing to worry about.
Now that she knew, she understood why her father didn’t answer her question then and there. She just grew more anxious. Being somewhere new would makes anyone worried. But it wasn’t just at new. This Court was Solemn.
As the carriage eased to a halt, the footman opened the door and he helped me out of the carriage. Her father followed after her. She looked up at the building, the pillars standing tall, holding the structureture in place. The building looked quite extravagantegant. She walked with her father on the crimson carpet and the marble stairs arm in arm. Her fathered reassured her that everything will be fine and that he is there for her as they reach the grand door. Two doormen opened one door each, the doors opened slowly, but simultaneously.
Some people glanced at them briefly as they entered the court. The atmosphere was heavy and oppressive, controlled. As always, there were guards everywhere, just like outside. The nobles seemed somewhat rigid and cautious of their surroundings. It’s almostst like everyone there was hyper-aware of who might be watchinging. It must be due to the fact that everyone knew that one slip up of a word can get you into trouble you didn’t ask for.
The emperor was announced by a Herald. The room fell into a tense atmosphere, more so than when the emperor wasn’t here. The court fell silent the moment he stepped in, with just his presence alone. There was no chief advisor like what monarch’s usually have and the previous monarch’s advisor was nowhere to be seen. Then, he began to speak.
He discussed a territorial issue about the neighbouring kingdom that claimed part of our land is their lands since our kingdoms are connected by the boarder. They prosumely just wanted more land, but the chosed the wrong place to get some.
Eeveryone agreed with him, yet my father didn’t say a word. All the nobles offered safe, obedient suggestions, not wanting to anger the emperor. They were playing it safe, avoiding risk and avoiding blame. The plan they had suggested was clearly flawed. She knew that if these people won’t say it, she had to say it for them.
”Your Imperial Majesty…” she steps forward and bows. “with all due respect, I do not thinking this plan would be effective.”
The court freezed. Her father tries to stop her, because he didn’t want to lose his daughter who he cared so deeply about. She was his only family left. Yet she didn’t let him stop her since what’s said has alreadyy been said, so there’s no going back.
Another high ranking noble, who happened to be close friends with her father, had apologised on her behalf as the gaurds went towards her, ready to remove her from the court. Everyone thought that Elara was more stupid than people thought. They thought that if she was smart, she would have stayed quite. Suddenly, Selena stepped up and asked the emperoror to spare Elara, and that she would go in Elara’s behalf. Elara was confusedsed about why the woman who killed her is trying too save her.
‘Maybe she is trying to not look suspicious in front of me’ she thought.
The Emperor raises his hand slightly at the gaurds to stop them from going on.
“There will be no need for that” his boice was calm but cold. “I’m not displeased by her behaviour. In fact, I find it quite amusing…”
What a relief. She definitely would have been done for and everyone knew it.
“Do you mind explaining me the flaw in this plan?” he continues.
Her eyes widen for a split second before going back to her nuteral expression.
”Yes, of course, Your Imperal Majesty.”
She explaned the flaws as he asked her to. He aknowlged her logic. He doesn’t fully agree yet he listened to what she had to say.
From that moment, she knew that the Emperor is dangerous, but he’s not irrational. He could be useful to her.
