DARE YOU TO DEATH SAMPLE FULL NOVEL.

CHAPTER 3

The atmosphere at the university was full of smiles and laughter. It was atime of transition between being a child and becoming an adult, a time oflearning and experiencing new things for oneself. In the classroom, firstyear engineering students began to put their books in their backpacks andplanned to go eat something delicious after class. But when a group ofpeople in navy blue jackets entered the room and stood in front of the classinstead of the teacher, all thoughts and activities stopped."Today is a special occasion, guys. The elderly are going to take them to awelcome activity.Get up and follow that partner," said one of the elders, pointing to hispartner. The serious attitude of the elders made the new students, who hadbarely been in college for a week, hasten to obey.Upon arriving at the engineering faculty auditorium, everyone wasorganised to sit neatly.Once they made sure that all mechanical engineering students were present, the second-year seniors closed the doors and surrounded the first-yearstudents."Guys! Do you know why we called you today?" The loud and firm voicemade the atmosphere become silent. Not even a sigh was heard. "When Iask them, Answer!""We don't know, sir!""You don't know anything! Do you want the emblem or not? Ouch!"Hearing the elder's shout, the new students, who were staring at the ground, immediately looked up."Why are you yelling like that, you idiot? Doesn't your throat hurt?""It's to make yourself look more intimidating, so the boys will respect us.""Boys come to study, not to be the target of your bad mood," said a youngman with smoky hair, with a sharp face that matched his navy blue jacket,as he leaned on the stage with his arms crossed."Lift your heads, boys.""Look who thinks he's handsome! Jay, always hogging the spotlight," said aboy as tall as Jay, with fiery red hair combed back, showing off his wellformed forehead. His sharp face and slanted eyes made him look even moreintimidating as he stood next to Jay in the same stance."Why are you butting in, Jay? There's plenty of room for Tar to runaround," said a girl with black hair and pink streaks, length down to themiddle of her back. Her honey-colored skin and model-like height attractedthe gaze of all the new students. She pointed to a stocky boy walkingbehind her, with neck-length black hair tied carelessly with a pencil. All theolder students were used to his appearance."I'm not a rabbit, Bell.""I meant a buffalo.""They fight like dogs!" the young girl with golden blonde hair and a sharpface exclaimed as she picked up her coffee cup to drink. But when Bellpushed her shoulder, the coffee spilled into her mouth. "Bell!""I couldn't help it, beautiful Jean. You were the one who talked nonsense,"Cherine looked at her friend warningly."It's all dirty now," the tall, thin boy with a buzz cut said, offering ahandkerchief before passing by with a cold attitude."This idiot is yet another handsome one. You're too cool, friend Glah. I'dlove to kick you instead of slap you. I wish I could look that cool," Timesaid, tossing a paper to Tonkla, who caught it with ease."Enough already. All the rookies are confused. We're the senior fourthyears. Today, the second years brought you here because we havesomething important to announce. Champ, bring it for me," said a younggirl with shiny black hair and a sweet smile.Anyone who saw her would fall in love with that smile. Her small staturemade her look even more delicate next to the tall boy of about 187centimeters, with a sharp face and a scar on his eyebrow. Champ handed ashiny silver metal necklace with a gear-shaped pendant to the girl, thenstood close to her."Today, we eight seniors represented the fourth-year students to give themthese gears. This gear is a symbol of our faculty, representing who we are. It's not that important in itself, just a piece of metal, but what really mattersis the tradition it represents. It's something that is passed down from seniorsto juniors, showing that, in this faculty, you have friends, seniors, andjuniors who support you. I hope that one day, when you're in our shoes, you'll pass it down with the same feeling." Puifai spoke with a smile, looking around. The overhead lights dimmed to let the light from the seniors' candles shinethrough. The faculty song played softly, harmonizing with the bright flamesof the candles as they were passed down to the juniors, who then walkedover to receive the gears from the eight seniors. This was the last day of orientation for the new students. The first-yearstudents showed joy, excitement, and pride in the activities they hadparticipated in for months. The constructive and safe approach to activities, avoiding shouting or dangerous old traditions, made the newbies appreciatethe tradition even more. After almost an hour, everything was done. The lights came back on, andseniors and juniors mingled freely."Senior Mind, what are the names of the seniors here today?" a newbieasked."Oh, you want to meet them?" Mind shouted to the fourth-year studentsdiscussing the evening's party."Are you deaf or what? Fine, I'll introduce you myself." Mind cleared herthroat theatrically before introducing the eight seniors one by one."Do you see the senior holding a water bottle under his arm with red hair, looking cool like a big rooster at the end of the alley? That's Time. The handsome guy with gray hair next to him is Jay. The onewith a buzz cut and looks like a gangster, but has a heart like Kitty isTonkla. The beautiful girl who started the ceremony is Puifai, and her closefriend with blonde hair is Cherine. The girl with pink highlighted hair, supersexy, but with a mouth like she has ten dogs, is Bell. The one carrying awater bottle to Puifai, with a serious face, is her boyfriend Champ. Andfinally, the one wearing glasses and having long hair down to his neck isTar.This is the complete team of mechanical engineering Avengers.""Are all the seniors friends?" asked a freshman."Yeah, they have been since freshman year," the group replied, looking atthe seniors in admiration."I should go home," Jay said, looking at his watch."It's not allowed. You have to stay and drink with us. Captain Jade isn'tgoing to kill you," Time said, turning the car keys."Where are we going to drink? If it's in the corner again, I'm going to gocrazy with the mosquitoes," Bell said, tying her hair into a high ponytail."In the storage room. I already asked the guard for the keys," Champ said, showing the keychain."Perfect, so we can turn on the air conditioning.""I already left the drinks and snacks there. Let's go after we finish," Champsaid before splitting up to go to the bathroom.Creative orientation ended at eight in the evening. The second years madesure to send the freshmen home one by one and cleaned up the place. Bynine thirty, everything was clean."Jay, I already locked up the auditorium," a freshman said."Okay. Let's go home. Leave me the keys, I'll give them back to the guard,"Jay said."Thanks. Are the seniors leaving too?""In a bit. Go home," Jay said to the second years who split up to go to theirhomes. When he turned, he found Time staring at him."What do you want?""Let's go get a drink, Jay.""And the others?""They're in the storeroom. I waited for you because I was afraid you'd runaway," Time said."I can't stay long. I don't want Captain Jade to find me," Jay said."He's working hard. There's a new inspector at the station.""New inspector? Who?""Your face looks like a cop's face?""Yours doesn't, but your dad's does," Jay said, turning the keys next toTime. He knew so many things because his father was also a cop at thestation."I don't know, I haven't asked him yet." They both reached the storage roombelow the classroom building. This is where electronic equipment used inclasses is kept, most of it metal, so there is air conditioning. It is known thatif someone needs to work urgently at night or organize a small party, theybribe the guard to get the key and must return it in the morning. As he opened the door, the cold air from the air conditioner, set to a lowertemperature than necessary, hit Jay's face, making him frown. His sixfriends were sitting in a circle on the floor, with an assortment of snacks andalcohol in the center, courtesy of Tonkla, whose father owned a largegrocery store."Sit down, Jay," Bell said, pulling Jay by the hand to sit next to him andoffering him a glass of strong golden liquor."Damn, we're fourth years already! Goodbye to living off my dad," saidMai, who had just sat down, as she took a large gulp of alcohol."There aren't many classes this year, but the work is terrible.Grades are totally dependent on performance," said Puifai, eating a snack."Just thinking about it makes me stressed. What are we going to do whenwe graduate?" asked Cherine, pouring liquor forPuifai."Are we even going to graduate?" interrupted Bell, tossing a triangularsnack to Tar, who was sitting across from him."Seriously, does anyone have plans for the future yet? Except you two,"said Mai, pointing at Puifai and Champ, who were sitting together."One is the son of a car dealership owner and the other is ridiculously rich. Are you two going to get married when you graduate?""Get married so soon? We just graduated," said Puifai, blushing and lookingat his partner."Let's wait until we're ready, shall we?""Yeah," Champ smiled, hugging Puifai as his friends watched and jokedaround."What about you, Jay? When are you going to propose to me?" asked Time, leaning on Jay, only to be pulled back by Bell."Sorry, but Jay is mine, and so is Captain Jade," said Bell."Really, Bell?""Yeah, any problem?""Champ, you're going to inherit your father's business, aren't you?" askedJay, passing his glass to Tonkla, who was standing next to him."Yeah, I guess.""And you, Tar?""I'm going to do an internship. If I like it, I'll stay. If not, I'll look foranother company in Bangkok," said Tar, drinking nonchalantly."Tonkla, are you going to get Jay drunk so he won't come home?" askedCherine, seeing Tonkla pouring a large amount of pure liquor into her glass."Let's stop talking about the future. It's too stressful.I have a game," said Time, drawing everyone's attention."What game?""The game..." he paused dramatically, "of the bottle!""Wow, I thought you'd have an original idea," sighed Bell, resigned."How are we going to play?""Let's play 'Truth or Dare'," Cherine suggested quietly, but everyone agreedexcept Time."How do you play?""You can ask anyone a question. The person has to choose between tellingthe truth or accepting a dare.""Dare?""So, Time, tell me the truth. The other day when we had group work, wereyou really sick or did you go out to eat with a girl from dentistry? Truth ordare?" Cherine asked with a smile, while Tonkla and Bell stared at him."Well, I...""Answer it right," Bell pressed, causing Time to hesitate until he finallytook a large gulp of liquor."Dare! I choose dare.""I dare you to write his real name," Time said, reluctant but finally agreeing, and stood up to write the name while everyone laughed."Wow, you got me. Now I ask. Jay, is it true that you don't get along withCaptain Jade?""Why do you ask that all of a sudden?""Answer me now or I dare you to dance on the gatepost," Time saidseriously, hoping for revenge."I answer. It's not that I don't get along with him, it's just that when he actslike my dad, it bothers me.""Well, I can't do anything with that answer," said Time, laughing along withthe others, as Jay had dashed his red-headed friend's hopes."Jay, your turn to ask.""I'm asking Champ. Where did you go last week when I called you andheard a hospital-like announcement?" Champ paused with the glass ofliquor in his hand, looking at Jay."I went to the doctor.""What doctor?""No more questions.""The soda's gone. I'll get another pack," said Cherine, getting up from thecircle and going to get more soda from the table behind. The game continued until midnight. The questions became more daring andsome chose to answer truthfully, while others accepted outlandish dares thatcaused laughter throughout the night.Everyone was drunk and started talking nonsense.Jay, who initially planned to go home at midnight, had to abandon his plandue to drunkenness.Driving in such a state would not only be illegal, but also dangerous. Finally, everyone collapsed on the ground, some hugging each other, othersusing their friends as pillows, looking for a corner to sleep in.Jay, on the verge of losing consciousness, decided to call his brother to lethim know he wouldn't be coming home that night."What's wrong?""Brother, I'm not going home.""Speak clearly, where are you?""At college, I'm not coming back." And the call was cut off. Jay collapsedon the floor, unconscious like the others, not knowing that what wouldhappen next would be something they would never forget.
