A few weeks later, the day of the exam results arrived, and the school buzzed with tension. The drama of exams was over, but the real excitement was just beginning, today was result day. Hearts raced at St. Xavier’s High School, as students anxiously awaited their marks, knowing that these scores would soon reach their parents.
But the only ones who didn’t seem worried were Y/N and Min Yoongi. They didn’t care about their marks, they knew those would be excellent. The real question was who would top the class. Both silently prayed for a slight edge over the other, just one point more, but never the same. They refused a tie; that would be unacceptable.
The students of 12th, A sat in their seats, eyes fixed on one thought: How many marks did I get?
And the two most tense students in the room were, of course, the rivals, glaring at each other as if their stares alone could determine the results.
In both their minds, there was only one mission: I must top, no matter what it takes.
Mrs. Park entered, carrying a thick bundle of answer sheets. She placed them on her desk and addressed the class in a serious tone.
“Today is a very special day,” she announced. “We will finally find out who topped this exam, Y/N or Min Yoongi. After all, this is always the most important topic.”
Just then, a few students whispered among themselves.
“Ma’am, both of them will top.”
The entire class erupted in laughter at the comment, some shaking their heads in amusement.
Mrs. Park raised an eyebrow and said calmly, “Let’s see.”
Y/N and Min Yoongi exchanged a quick glance, a flicker of hope lighting their eyes. Maybe, just maybe, this time one of them would finally win the long-standing battle.
The classroom fell completely silent. Hearts pounded so loudly it felt like the walls themselves could hear them. Y/N and Min Yoongi shot each other side glances, their eyes locking in silent warnings, daring the other to falter. One by one, Mrs. Park handed out the results to the students. Now, only one moment remains : the announcement of the topper.
Who has secured the highest score?
Mrs. Park straightened, her voice deliberate and slow. “Now, it’s time to reveal our topper. Who scored the highest this time? And the toppers of this exam are…”
She paused dramatically, letting the suspense stretch. The whole class leaned forward in their seats, hearts hammering. The silence was heavy, the anticipation unbearable. Everyone could feel that this time, perhaps, the match wouldn’t end in a tie.
Finally, she spoke, her tone crisp and clear. “Min Yoongi…”
Min Yoongi’s face lit up instantly. He sprang to his feet, eyes shining with triumph.
Mrs. Park cleared her throat and continued, “And Y/N. Both of you have scored the exact same marks again, in every subject. 498 out of 500. Congratulations!”
Both their faces fell instantly.
Min Yoongi groaned. “Are you kidding me? Again?”
Y/N’s eyes narrowed, a mixture of disbelief and irritation flashing across her face. “You little cockroach. You couldn’t have scored just a few marks less? Again the same, and 498? Both of us? Ma’am… ma’am, please check once more. I’m sure there’s a mistake. I cannot have the same score as him.”
Min Yoongi shook his head, equally frustrated. “Yes, ma’am, please check mine too. This cannot be right. I attempted every question this time. 498? I deserve 500. Check again, please. I will beat this lizard for sure. Trust me.”
Mrs. Park shook her head gently, though she hid a small smile at their predictably competitive spirits. “I’m sorry, children. Even after rechecking, your marks remain the same. Y/N, two marks were deducted in Maths, and Min Yoongi, two marks were deducted in Chemistry. Next time, do better in the finals. I’m sure you will both fight it out and someone will finally win. Okay? Now, take your results, and make sure your parents sign the sheets tomorrow. Next week is the PTM, so I expect you all to come with your parents or guardians.”
She handed them their papers, and both Y/N and Min Yoongi were visibly annoyed, glaring at each other as they took them.
Y/N muttered under her breath, her jaw set. “In the finals… I will score higher than him. Definitely.”
Min Yoongi smirked to himself, equally determined. The rivalry was far from over.
Min Yoongi frowned, still holding his result in his hand. “But ma’am… why do we always get the same marks? How is this even possible?”
Y/N, equally frustrated, crossed her arms and groaned. “Exactly! This is impossible! I should have had extra marks! Give me just one more point, and then at least I can call him the loser!”
Min Yoongi shook his head stubbornly. “No way. I want more marks than her.”
The two of them began bickering loudly, their argument escalating quickly. The rest of the class couldn’t help but laugh at the spectacle, entertained by their relentless rivalry.
Mrs. Park sighed, a hint of amusement in her eyes. “If you two can write side by side like this, then yes, it’s not surprising your marks are the same. Don’t act so shocked.”
Y/N and Min Yoongi turned to each other, eyes flashing with murderous intensity. This wasn’t the end of the battle, it was the beginning of a new war.
Min Yoongi leaned slightly toward her, his voice low but determined. “In the finals, I will beat you.”
Y/N folded her arms, a confident smirk playing on her lips. “In your dreams, you little lizard. In the finals, I will be on top. Just wait and watch.”
They glared at each other, the tension between them so palpable that the class watched in sheer entertainment. Their competition was about to reach a new level, but three months before the exams, something strange happened.
Y/N, who had never shied away from competing, suddenly began to distance herself from everyone. Her marks started dropping unexpectedly, and nobody knew why. The rivalry, once predictable, had just taken an unpredictable turn.
