Wu Qi Qiong woke up to find himself lying in a small clinic. Next to him stood a doctor, sterilizing tweezers and scissors. When he heard movement from the bed, Jiang Xiao Shuai turned his head and gave a warm smile, revealing two rows of clean, white teeth.
“You’re awake?”
Wu Qi Qiong noticed - this doctor was actually quite handsome.
“Who brought me here?”
While putting his tools away, Jiang Xiao Shuai replied casually,
“Your girlfriend found two guys to carry you over. She even told me specifically to use the cheapest medication – and only the kind that’s covered by insurance.”
Wu Qi Qiong laughed, almost happily.
“She really knows me well.”
Jiang Xiao Shuai’s handsome face froze for a second. A slight, unreadable smile tugged at the corner of his lips. He walked over to Wu Qi qiong and handed him a glass of water.
“Take your medicine first.”
After taking the pills, Wu Qiqiong hurriedly asked,
“Where’s my girlfriend?”
“She left a while ago. Right after I finished treating your wound. It’s been, what, three or four hours now? Hey, what happened to your head?”
“Got hit with a brick,”
Wu Qi Qiong said proudly.
“You got into a fight?”
“Nope. My girlfriend wanted to break up with me. I wanted to make a statement.”
Jiang Xiao Shuai had never heard of someone making a statement by bashing their own head in with a brick.
“Was it worth it?”
he asked, half-teasing.Wu Qi Qiong didn’t reply. He picked up his phone and called Yue Yue.
“Do you still want to break up with me?”
There was silence on the other end for a long time.
“Just focus on healing for now. We’ll talk later.”
Wu Qi Qiong hung up with a satisfied smile, waving the phone at Jiang Xiao Qhuai.
“She said she won’t break up with me for now. Worth it? Hell yeah!”
Jiang Xiao Shuai hid the look of contempt that flickered in his eyes, keeping a friendly smile on his face.
“Doctor, how long will this take to heal?”
“At least two months.”
“Two months?”
Wu Qi qiong groaned in despair.
“That’s gonna cost a fortune…”
Night fell. The clinic was quiet – just Wu Qi Qiong and Jiang Xiao Shuai remained.Wu Qi Qiong had an IV drip in one hand and his phone in the other, playing a game of Zuma. Jiang Xiao Shuai stood beside him, watching him play completely wrong –firing random colored balls and dying in minutes – but he kept retrying again and again.
“Hey…”
Jiang Xiao Shuai cleared his throat.
“Your head’s busted, and you’re still playing games?”
“I’m bored. This is the only game I have. But I just can’t pass this level.”
A slight smirk crept onto Jiang Xiao Shuai’s handsome face.
“You keep playing like that, no wonder. You're just firing randomly.”
“I’m not! I follow the rules!”
Wu Qi Qiong defended.Jiang Xiao shuai watched for a bit longer, then suddenly realized something and asked,
“Wait… are you color blind?”
“No, I can tell colors apart.”
Still suspicious, Jiang Xiao Shuai asked Wu Qi Qiong to pause the game and pointed at a red ball.
“What color is this?”
“Yellow.”
Wu Qi Qiong answered, dead serious. Then he pointed to a green one.
“And this?”
“Also yellow.”
Finally, he pointed to a purple one.
“That’s blue."
Jiang Xiao Shuai burst out laughing and patted him on the shoulder.
“Dude, you’re definitely color blind. Give it up. You could play until you die and still not pass.”
But Wu Qi qiong kept holding up his phone, completely unfazed.
“No big deal. Just training my eyes.”
Jiang Xiao Shuai found Wu Qi Qiong amusing and ended up chatting with him more.
“So, why did she want to break up with you?”
Wu Qi Qiong curled his lips.
“Said I was too fat.”
Then he tossed his wallet over. Inside was a photo of him and Yue Yue during their first year of college – he was nearly fifty pounds lighter back then. Jiang Xiaoshuai looked at it and felt kind of bad for him.
“Not to be rude, but yeah… she is better-looking than you now. Honestly, I think she and someone else would be a better match. Don’t take it the wrong way.”
“Hey! Hey! What kind of thing is that to say?”
Wu Qi Qiong protested.
“Just being honest.”
Jiang Xiao Shuai shrugged.
“What do you know? This—this guy here—is me! The real deal!”
Wu Qi Qiong pointed at himself, then at the photo. Jiang Xiao Shuai quickly snatched the photoback, scrutinizing it and comparing it to Wu Qi Qiong’s current face. Yeah… There was definitely a resemblance. Chubby guys really were hidden gems. And now Jiang Xiao Shuai suddenly understood why Yue Yue wanted to break up – anyone would be shocked by such a transformation.
“Man, you need to lose that weight. Look at you in the photo – thick eyebrows, sharp eyes, smart and sharp. Look at you now – still got the big eyes, but now you just look dazed.”
Wu Qi Qiong blinked.
“Really?”
“Why would I lie?”
Jiang Xiao Shuai said as he pulled the IV needle out.
“You’ll been a restricted diet while you heal anyway – might as well start losing weight.”
… Two months passed in a flash. Wu Qi Qiong’s wound had healed completely, smooth and scar-free. Just like Jiang Xiao Shuai suggested, Wu Qi Qiong had eaten vegetarian the whole time, and he’d shed over twenty pounds. He actually looks much better—he could feel it just walking, lighter and quicker. That day, he bought two packs of cigarettes and returned to the clinic to thank Jiang Xiao Shuai.
“I’ve been coming here for two months straight. Honestly, I’m a little reluctant to leave.”
Jiang Xiao Shuai laughed heartily.
“Well then, if you’re going to miss me that much, go smash your head in again, and we’ll see each other every day!”
“Hahahahaha…”
Wu Qi Qiong laughed, waved goodbye to Jiang Xiaoshuai, andstrode off with a new spring in his step.
