Chapter Five: Her Answer

For a few seconds…

I couldn’t breathe.

His words were still floating in the air between us.

“I love you.”

Three simple words.

Yet they carried the weight of years.

Years of waiting.

Years of hiding.

Years of loving in silence.

I looked at him, standing there in the rain, his eyes filled with fear and hope at the same time.

This was the boy I had loved quietly for so long.

And he loved me too.

I had dreamed of this moment countless times.

In my imagination, I would smile.

I would laugh.

I would run into his arms.

But reality was different.

My hands were shaking.

My heart was racing.

My throat felt tight.

Because suddenly, my biggest dream had come true…

And it was terrifying.

“Why didn’t you tell me?” I whispered.

My voice broke.

He looked down. “Because I was scared,” he admitted. “Scared that you’d say no. Scared that I’d lose you.”

A sad smile appeared on my lips.

“Do you know how many times I cried because of that?” I asked softly.

He looked up, shocked. “You… cried?”

“Yes,” I said. “I thought you never cared. I thought I was just someone you talked to when you were bored.”

“That was never true,” he said quickly. “You were always important to me.”

I took a deep breath.

My heart was screaming.

Tell him.

Tell him everything.

“I loved you first,” I said quietly.

His eyes widened.

“I loved you before you ever noticed me,” I continued. “I loved you when you talked about other girls. I loved you when you ignored my feelings without knowing it.”

His lips parted in surprise.

“I promised myself I would never tell you,” I confessed. “I thought silent love was safer. I thought hiding was better than losing you.”

He stepped closer.

“You should’ve told me,” he said softly.

“I know,” I replied. “But I was afraid too.”

We both laughed lightly.

Not because it was funny.

Because it was painful.

And beautiful.

At the same time.

“So…” he said hesitantly. “What does this mean now?”

I looked at him.

Really looked.

At the boy who had unknowingly owned my heart for years.

At the boy who had loved me just as quietly.

“It means,” I said slowly, “that we stop hiding.”

He smiled.

A real smile.

The kind I had fallen in love with.

“It means we stop pretending,” I added.

He nodded. “Together.”

I reached for his hand.

For the first time.

He didn’t pull away.

He held it tighter.

The rain had stopped.

The clouds were slowly clearing.

And for the first time in a long time…

So was my heart.

We didn’t need promises.

We didn’t need big words.

All we needed was honesty.

Because sometimes…

The most beautiful love stories aren’t loud.

They are written in silence.

And finally…

Read out loud.

All those years of silent love were never wasted.

They were just preparing us for this truth: we were always meant to find each other.
