Through the mist, that shadow began to move slowly toward us. My heart was pounding. Purav gripped my shoulder lightly, as if ready to bolt if anything went wrong.
As the shadow drew closer, we could clearly see it wasn't a demon, but three men. All of them were tall, sturdy, and well-dressed. Various types of weapons hung from their shoulders, glinting faintly in the misty light.
They stopped right in front of us.
One of them, standing at the front, took a step forward. His face was calm, but his eyes held a strange confidence. Looking directly at us, he said:
“I am the successor of the Arma District… Ashok.”
His voice was deep and steady.
“We heard the sound of your laughter from afar. We thought if a traveler was passing through this path, they might need assistance.”
Purav and I looked at each other. Ashok gestured toward the surrounding mountains.
“These hilly regions are not as peaceful as they look. Sometimes demons are spotted here… and the path is quite dangerous. You never know who might need help and when.”
The two companions standing behind him appeared calm yet alert. Their hands remained close to their weapons, as if a battle could break out at any moment.
Purav whispered in my ear, “Dhruv… they look like high-ranking people.”
I nodded slightly, then turned to Ashok and spoke, “We are going toward the Element District. If you don't mind us traveling together…”
A faint smile appeared on Ashok’s lips. “That is exactly what we want as well.”
He gestured toward the path ahead, and we all began to walk together. The journey felt a bit safer now.
Conversations continued along the way. The mist was gradually lifting, and the mountain path no longer seemed as treacherous. Ashok and his companions were quiet but friendly.
After a while, Ashok started the conversation himself.
“We are students of this Gurukul. We are from the Arma District… and have been invited for this year’s competition.”
Purav and I exchanged a look. “Really?” I asked in surprise.
“Yes,” I replied with a smile, “We are also going for the same competition.”
Purav immediately chimed in, “But it’s our first time… we didn’t even know the way. It’s a good thing we ran into you.”
Ashok nodded slightly and said, “Then consider the journey headed in the right direction.”
Talking as we went, we didn't realize when the mountain path ended and a vast open field appeared before us. The sun was setting slowly. The sky was filled with shades of orange and purple. We reached the outskirts of the Element District city before evening fell.
From a distance, the massive walls of the Element District were visible. Strange symbols were etched onto those walls—ripples of fire, swirls of water, gusts of wind, and lines of earth. It was as if the five elements themselves were guarding the place.
As we moved closer, the atmosphere became even more beautiful. There was a different kind of energy in the air—chilly yet vibrant. Large torches were burning at the city gates, their light making the entire wall shimmer.
Stepping inside the gate, I looked around in awe.
This was no ordinary Gurukul.
It was spread across a vast area, the size of a large village. Inside were small houses, a main assembly area, water ponds, meditation spots surrounded by trees, and a training ground in the center. Different powers were being practiced everywhere—gusts of wind rising here, streams of water swirling in the air there, and earthen golems being constructed elsewhere.
Purav whispered, “Dhruv… it feels like the real world starts from here.”
I stared silently at the magnificent Gurukul(academy). My heart was filled with a strange sensation,"this is the place,Where the authentic chapter of my fate was set to unfold."
Two students arrived to lead us inside. Both bowed respectfully and began showing us the inner paths. The interior of the Gurukul was even more grand; students from different districts were visible everywhere—some practicing, others learning to control their powers.
After walking for a while, they brought us in front of a large building.
“This is the Guest House (Wishramgrah),” one of them said. “Rest here tonight. Tomorrow, after sunrise, all new students must gather at the Proclamation Ground (Ghoshna Sthal).”
The other student added with a smile, “There will be some important announcements before the competition. Don't be late.”
With that, they both turned and disappeared into the darkness.
Purav and I stood there for a few moments, then slowly walked inside the Guest House. The atmosphere inside was peaceful. Wooden rooms, the glow of dim lamps, and the cool breeze drifting in from outside… the exhaustion of the journey suddenly hit us.
Purav collapsed onto the bed and said, “That’s it, brother… enough adventure for today. Whatever happens tomorrow, we’ll see.”
But I couldn't sleep.
I went and stood by the window. The nighttime view of the Gurukul was different—the light of the torches, the faint clashing of swords in the distance, and a strange restlessness in the air.
We were both eagerly waiting for morning.
But only one thought kept spinning in my mind…
Will she be here too?
That same girl… the one with the silver vial.
The one whose jade I still had kept safe.
I slowly pulled the jade out of my pocket. It glowed faintly in the torchlight, as if hiding a secret.
My heart whispered, “Maybe tomorrow… I will meet her again.”
"I don’t know why this night felt so long today…
It was as if time itself had slowed its pace. Every moment felt stretched out. Outside the window, the darkness remained still, while inside, a strange restlessness was awakening in my heart."
And with that hope, I closed my eyes… but more than sleep, the morning of tomorrow was waiting for me.
