The Northern Wastes were alive with power.
Lyra stood atop the highest cliff, her dragons coiled around her like guardians. Below, the black rivers of the Wastes shimmered with starlight, responding to her presence.
Her breath came in steady rhythms now. Fire danced across her right hand, water swirled in her left, wind spiraled around her legs, earth hummed beneath her feet, and shadows hugged her like a living cloak. The dragons’ eyes followed her every motion, reflecting obedience and anticipation.
Kael’s hand brushed hers lightly as he stood behind her. “You’ve come far since the arena,” he murmured. “But the Void God knows you are here. He’s waiting.”
Lyra’s gaze hardened. “Let him come. I am ready.”
No one had ever wielded all elements and commanded dragons so naturally. She could feel the pulse of each element flowing through her, each dragon syncing to her heartbeat. She lifted her hands, and lightning struck the peaks around them, splitting stone, but bending to her will.
A shadow swept across the sky, dark and massive. The ground trembled beneath her. A low, ancient growl echoed from the mountains.
The Void God had risen.
Its form was massive, shifting like smoke and darkness, clawed and impossibly tall. Its eyes glowed like molten silver, fixing on her with hunger and curiosity.
“You cannot control me,” it hissed, voice like cracking stone. “You are of my making.”
Lyra stepped forward, heart steady. “I am of my own making,” she replied. Her words carried through the wind, fire, water, and earth — and each element answered her command, swirling in unison around her.
The dragons let out synchronized roars, their wings spreading wide. Fire, ice, and storm combined into a vortex that mirrored her power, surrounding her in an elemental halo.
The Void God lunged. Darkness coiled like a massive serpent, twisting and snapping toward her. The wind screamed, shadows danced violently, and lightning tore through the clouds.
Lyra extended her hands. Fire and water met, spinning around her like twin tornadoes. Wind lifted her slightly from the ground. Earth rose beneath her, forming protective barriers. Shadow wrapped tightly around her frame, absorbing the impact of the first strike.
The Void God hissed, recoiling slightly. “You are stronger than I anticipated.”
Kael drew his blade, silver glowing faintly, and moved to her side. “Do not let it overwhelm you. Control it. Balance it. You are stronger together — we are stronger together.”
Lyra’s gaze flicked toward him, and for a moment, the tension between them became almost tangible. Their hands brushed again, light but electric, and the dragons shifted closer, sensing the unspoken bond.
She inhaled deeply. Closing her eyes, she let the elements flow through her, not around her. Fire became warmth, water became flexibility, wind became guidance, earth became foundation, shadow became armor. The dragons synced perfectly, forming a living, breathing circle of elemental power.
When she opened her eyes, they glowed gold and shadow, piercing and calm. She raised her hands.
The Void God froze. The dragons lifted, circling faster, their combined power forming a prism of elemental energy that cut through the dark mists of the Wastes.
Lyra stepped forward. “You were sealed once. You will be sealed again. And this time… willingly.”
The Void God roared, a sound that split mountains, but Lyra did not falter. Shadows, fire, water, wind, and earth struck in perfect harmony, binding the dark form with chains of pure elemental energy. The dragons dove, claws and wings striking, further binding and protecting her control.
A flash of silver light split the sky — and the Void God hissed, retreating into the shadows of the mountains.
Lyra exhaled. She was trembling, but victorious. She had done it. She had controlled all elements at once. She had commanded dragons in perfect harmony. She had faced the first direct threat of the Void God — and survived.
Kael stepped closer, placing a hand gently on her shoulder. “You’ve done something no one thought possible,” he said quietly. His eyes softened, but there was still an edge — concern, fear, and admiration all mixed together.
Lyra looked at him. “It’s not over. He’ll return. Stronger. Smarter. More… cunning.”
Kael nodded. “Then we’ll face him. Together.”
The dragons landed around her, their heads lowered in respect. Fire, ice, and wind mixed in their scales with starlight threads, responding to her calm. The storm above slowly cleared, leaving the faint glow of twilight over the Northern Wastes.
Lyra looked at the horizon, toward the broken kingdom of Vaeloria. She had grown stronger, more confident, more capable than anyone could imagine. Yet something stirred in her chest — a mixture of excitement and dread.
Kael’s hand brushed hers again. “You’re incredible,” he said softly. Not a question. Not a command. Just an observation.
Lyra’s lips curved slightly. “And yet… I feel like this is just the beginning.”
Far in the shadows of the mountains, the Void God watched, plotting. The Sovereign had awakened. She had dragons, elements, and power beyond comprehension.
But even the Sovereign could not yet see what Kael had kept hidden — the true depth of the darkness that ran in his veins, and the secret that could either protect them… or destroy them both.
The Northern Wastes shivered.
And the world waited.
