Chapter 3: “Shadows of the Past”

The city sparkled below the skyscraper windows, unaware of the deadly games brewing in its heart. Taehyung sat silently in his study, reviewing files on the Seo mafia branch.

He remembered everything. Their betrayal, the framing, the gun… the life he had lost.

Not this time, he thought, his fingers tracing the edge of the papers. Not ever.

Every detail from his past life was clear—who could be trusted, who would betray, and who had been pawns in Jungkook’s empire.

He leaned back, eyes narrowing. This life, this second chance, wasn’t just about survival. It was about control.

A soft knock interrupted his thoughts.

“Come in,” Taehyung said.

Jungkook entered, as always perfectly dressed, calm, but his dark eyes sharp and alert. “Still working so early?”

Taehyung didn’t look up. “Someone has to protect your empire from hidden threats,” he said lightly, though the words carried a dangerous edge.

Jungkook paused. “Hidden threats? You mean… the Seo branch?”

Taehyung finally met his gaze. “Exactly. The same people who nearly destroyed me last time. They’re planning something again, I can feel it.”

Jungkook frowned. “You’re imagining things. You’ve just been through a stressful experience.”

Taehyung’s lips curved into a faint, unreadable smile. “Stress has sharp edges. It makes me notice things others don’t. That’s why I won’t fall for their traps again.”

For the first time, Jungkook hesitated. The calm, composed Taehyung he once knew had vanished. In its place was a man who calculated, planned, and struck before anyone could notice.

By evening, Taehyung had quietly made his first move.

Using old contacts he remembered from his past life, he intercepted messages from the Seo branch. Small things—misrouted shipments, secret meetings, financial discrepancies.

It was subtle, almost invisible, but it was enough.

Later, Jungkook found him leaning over the desk, reviewing the intercepted intel. “You’re… changing fast,” he said, voice low.

Taehyung didn’t flinch. “I’ve had three years of experience surviving in a world where everyone wanted me dead. This is nothing.”

Jungkook’s dark eyes narrowed. He could feel the shift—the distance, the control, the power. He was used to being untouchable. But now… Taehyung was untouchable too.

“Be careful,” Jungkook warned. “If you push too far, you could provoke the Seo branch. They’re dangerous.”

Taehyung’s smile was calm. Cold. Calculated. “I intend to. But this time, I play my game. Not theirs.”

Jungkook said nothing, but the tension in the room was palpable. He realized he didn’t know this Taehyung yet—the one standing in front of him now. The one who could outthink him, outmaneuver him, and possibly… defy him completely.

That night, as rain tapped lightly against the windows again, Taehyung gazed out at the city.

Fall for me again, Jeon Jungkook, he thought quietly.

This time… I will be the one holding the gun.

And somewhere in the darkness, the Seo branch was already moving, unaware that the hunted had become the hunter.
