College Phase – “After the Farewell”

College Phase – “After the Farewell”

Two years later.

Priya was in her second year of college. New campus, new people, but some habits didn’t change — front row seats, neatly written notes, serious expression during lectures.

Yash was in the same city now, different college. They weren’t the dramatic, always-texting couple. They had grown into something quieter. More stable.

One evening, after weeks of hectic schedules, they met at a small café near campus. It had warm yellow lights and soft music playing in the background. Priya wore a simple kurti, hair open this time — not the strict school ponytail.

Yash noticed immediately.

“You don’t tie your hair like first bench anymore,” he teased softly.

She smiled. “College version upgrade.”

They talked for hours — about professors, internships, future plans. But under the table, their hands kept brushing. Not accidental anymore.

When they stepped outside, it had started drizzling. Not heavy rain, just enough to make the air cooler.

Priya shivered slightly.

Without overthinking, Yash moved closer. “Cold?”

“A little.”

He hesitated for half a second — giving her space to pull away if she wanted. She didn’t.

So he gently wrapped his arm around her shoulders.

It wasn’t dramatic. It wasn’t rushed. It was careful.

Priya’s heart was racing the way it used to in high school — but this time there was no confusion. No rumours. No denial.

They stood under a tree, rain falling lightly around them.

“Do you ever think,” Priya said quietly, “how weird it is? We almost didn’t happen.”

Yash looked at her seriously. “I was stupid back then.”

“You were scared.”

“So were you.”

She didn’t argue.

For a moment, they just looked at each other. The kind of eye contact that says more than words. The kind that feels a little electric.

Yash slowly lifted his hand to move a strand of wet hair from her face. His fingers brushed her cheek — soft, lingering.

He didn’t rush forward.

Instead, he whispered, “Can I?”

Priya’s breath caught slightly… but she nodded.

The kiss wasn’t intense or wild. It was slow. Careful. Testing. Like both of them were memorising the feeling.

Her hands instinctively held onto his shirt. His grip tightened slightly at her waist, steady but respectful.

When they pulled back, neither of them spoke for a few seconds.

The world didn’t change. Fireworks didn’t explode.

But something settled.

Comfort.

Security.

Choice.

Priya rested her forehead lightly against his chest. “This feels different from school.”

Yash smiled into her hair. “Because now we’re choosing each other. Not just reacting to feelings.”

The rain slowed.

He didn’t push further. Didn’t try to turn the moment into something bigger. They just stood there, close, breathing the same air.

And for the first time in her life, Priya didn’t think about skin tone, age, comparison, or who might be prettier.

She just felt wanted.

Not because she fit some template.

But because she was her.
