Legacy of Light
The sky burned crimson over the battlefield, a reflection of the fire that had once raged within Phoenix Lux Walker. In her prime, she had been unstoppable—an alpha whose mental strength could shatter fortifications and bend armies to her will. Her name was whispered in awe and fear, a symbol of power that no one dared challenge. But power, she had learned too late, was a fragile thing.
It was a betrayal that brought her down. A blade, forged from a metal that could nullify even the strongest auras, slipped through her defenses, driven by the hand of someone she had once called a friend. The pain was searing, hot and cold all at once, as her mental strength drained away like water through cracked stone. She fell to her knees, her vision blurring, as the world around her faded into darkness.
“I will return,” she vowed, her voice a ragged whisper, as her life force ebbed away. “I will not let this be the end.”
And then, there was nothing.
When Phoenix opened her eyes again, the first thing she noticed was the softness of the bed beneath her—nothing like the hard, blood-soaked ground of the battlefield. The second thing was the silence. No shouts of war, no roar of power, no scent of smoke and iron.
She sat up, her head spinning, and looked around. She was in a small, bright room, filled with things she didn’t recognize—screens that glowed with light, strange devices, clothes that hung in a closet, unfamiliar to her eyes. She looked down at her hands—smaller, softer, unmarked by the scars of a thousand battles.
Panic flared in her chest as she scrambled out of bed and rushed to the mirror on the wall. The face that stared back at her was not her own. It was the face of a young woman, with striking features and eyes that held the weight of a past life, but a body that was weak, untrained, and… empty.
She reached within herself, searching for the fire that had always burned in her soul, the mental strength that had been her greatest weapon. But there was nothing. No roar, no warmth, no power. Just a hollow silence, as if the fire had been extinguished forever.
A name floated through her mind, unbidden: Phoenix Lux Walker. It was her name now, she realized. But the legend she had been was gone.
She stumbled back, collapsing onto the bed, her mind reeling. She had been given a second chance, but it was a cruel joke. She was an alpha, yes—but an alpha without any mental strength. Useless. Powerless. Just like everyone else.
For days, she wandered through this new world, lost and confused. She learned that she was a student at Starlight Academy, a place where alphas and omegas trained to hone their abilities, where strength was everything and weakness was mocked. She heard the whispers, the snickers, the comments about how “Phoenix Lux has nothing but her looks.”
She wanted to scream, to tell them who she had been, to show them what she could do. But she couldn’t. The power was gone. And so, she did the only thing she could—she smiled, she laughed, she pretended to be the lazy, carefree alpha everyone thought she was. She hid the pain, the anger, the longing for the power she had lost.
But fate, she would soon learn, had other plans for her. Plans that would lead her into a dark alleyway, into the presence of an omega whose scent would change her life forever. Plans that would bring her face-to-face with the one person who would make her realize that power wasn’t the only thing that mattered.
