Episode 5 – The Company Party

The next afternoon, Lina was sitting in her room when Mary, the housekeeper, knocked on the door.

“Miss Lina, a delivery has arrived for you,” Mary said with a smile.

“For me?” Lina asked, confused.

When she went downstairs, she saw a large box on the table. On top of it was a small card that said:

“For tonight – Adrian.”

Lina slowly opened the box, and her eyes widened in shock. Inside was a beautiful evening dress, a pair of high heels, and jewelry.

“This must be very expensive…” she whispered.

Mary smiled. “Sir has very good taste.”

That evening, Lina wore the dress. The mirror showed a completely different person. She looked elegant, beautiful, and mature.

“I don’t even recognize myself…” Lina said quietly.

At that moment, Adrian knocked on the door.

“Are you ready?” he asked from outside.

“Yes… one minute,” Lina replied.

When she opened the door, Adrian looked at her and froze for a moment. Lina noticed that he was staring at her.

“Is… something wrong?” Lina asked nervously.

Adrian cleared his throat and looked away slightly.

“No. You look fine.”

But Lina could see that he was a little surprised.

They went downstairs together and got into the car. The company party was at a luxury hotel. The building was full of lights, expensive cars, and well-dressed people.

When Adrian and Lina entered the hall, many people turned to look at them.

“That’s the CEO.”

“Who is the woman with him?”

“Is that his wife?”

Lina felt nervous and quietly held Adrian’s arm.

“Stay close to me,” Adrian said softly.

Many employees came to greet Adrian.

“Good evening, Mr. Blake.”

“Good evening, Sir.”

Adrian nodded and then said,

“This is my wife, Lina.”

Everyone looked surprised but quickly smiled and greeted her.

“Nice to meet you, Mrs. Blake.”

Lina felt strange hearing that name.

Suddenly, a woman walked toward them holding a glass of juice. Lina accidentally stepped back and bumped into her.

“Oh! I’m sorry!” Lina said quickly.

The juice spilled on Lina’s dress.

“I’m so sorry!” the woman said, but Lina noticed she didn’t look sorry at all.

Before Lina could say anything, another familiar voice spoke.

“Oh my… what happened here?” Maya said as she walked toward them.

Lina immediately understood.

“This was not an accident…” she thought.

Maya looked at Lina’s dress and smiled slightly.

“That’s unfortunate. That dress looked very expensive.”

Adrian’s face became cold.

“Maya, what are you doing here?”

“I was invited,” she said calmly.

Adrian took off his jacket and placed it around Lina’s shoulders.

“Come with me,” he said.

He took Lina to a private room in the hotel.

“I’ll ask someone to bring another dress,” he said.

“You don’t have to… I’m okay,” Lina said.

Adrian looked at her dress and then at her face.

“You’re not okay,” he said. “And this was not an accident.”

Lina looked down.

“I didn’t want to cause trouble…”

Adrian sighed slightly.

“You are my wife. If someone bullies you, that is also my problem.”

Lina looked up at him, surprised.

For a moment, they were very close to each other. Lina’s heart started beating fast.

“Why is my heart beating like this…?” she thought.

Adrian noticed she was staring at him and stepped back slightly.

“I’ll send someone with a new dress,” he said and walked toward the door.

Before he left, he stopped and said,

“And Lina… you look beautiful tonight.”

Then he left the room.

Lina stood there, completely frozen.

“Did the cold CEO just… compliment me?” she whispered, her face turning red.
