An Unsold Villa
4th March, Thursday,
Dear Diary,
Today began like any other ordinary day. I woke up to the loud, irritating ringing of my alarm clock instead of the pleasant chirping of birds. I reached out from under the blanket and turned it off, still feeling sleepy. For a few moments I lay there staring at the ceiling, gathering the energy to start the day.
My mornings were always simple and predictable. I put water on to boil, made a cup of tea, and started preparing breakfast.Just as I cracked an egg into the pan, the doorbell rang. It wasn't a polite ring either. It was long and sharp, the kind people press when they're impatient.
I frowned.
At this hour?
When I opened the door, I found no one there. The empty front yard stared back at me. The morning air was still, the street quiet. Not even a passing car.For a moment I stood there confused.I stepped out onto the porch and glanced left and right along the street.
Nothing
No footsteps, no voices, no running figure disappearing around the corner.
I sighed.
Probably some kids playing a prank.
I muttered to myself.
Shrugging it off, I turned back toward the door. But just as I was about to close it, something on the floor caught my eye.
An envelope
It lay right near the threshold, almost blending with the pale tiles. I was certain it hadn't been there earlier. Curious, I picked it up. It was an old-fashioned envelope made of thick, slightly yellowed paper. My name was written on the front in dark ink, in handwriting that looked careful but slightly shaky.
No sender's name. No address.Just my name.
I stepped back inside and closed the door behind me.Carefully, I opened it. Inside was a single folded sheet of paper.I unfolded it slowly. The message was written in the same dark ink, but this time the writing looked hurried, as if the person had been under great pressure.
It read:
"If you are reading this, it means we had no other choice."
"We know this may sound strange, but our lives are in danger."
"They are watching us. We cannot go to the authorities. We cannot trust anyone."
"Except you."
I paused.
My eyebrows tightened.
Except me!?Who were "they"?
And more importantly-
How did they know so much about me??
OR, what if it was just a prank??
Well, it's enough detective work for today and now I'm off to bed.
Thank You
This is my first book to write.
