The battlefield never came.
Just as the army of shadows surged forward and Lira’s power began to rise in response, something unexpected happened.
The ground beneath them shattered—not from darkness, but from light.
A massive barrier erupted between the two sides, forming a glowing wall that stretched across the valley. Symbols carved themselves into its surface, ancient and radiant, pulsing with a force that made even the air hum.
The advancing Shadow Guard slammed into it—
—and were thrown back instantly.
A shockwave rippled outward.
Even the Shadow Prince paused.
Lira staggered, shielding her eyes from the brilliance. “What is that?!”
The stranger beside her exhaled in relief. “A protection barrier. One of the last defenses of Encantasia.”
“Last?” she repeated.
He didn’t answer immediately.
Across the barrier, the Shadow Prince studied the glowing wall with quiet interest. Then his gaze shifted—back to Lira.
For a moment, everything else seemed to disappear.
“You cannot hide behind old magic forever,” he said calmly, his voice somehow passing through the barrier.
Lira felt it echo inside her chest.
“You belong to this world… and to me.”
Her pulse spiked. “I don’t belong to you!”
The Shadow Prince’s expression darkened slightly.
“We’ll see.”
He lowered his hand.
The shadows retreated instantly, pulling back like a receding tide. The army followed without question, disappearing into the darkness from which they came.
But his eyes never left hers.
“This is only the beginning,” he said softly.
And then—
He was gone.
The sky slowly returned to its natural glow, though the tension in the air remained, heavy and unresolved.
Lira let out a shaky breath.
“They just… left?”
“For now,” the stranger said.
The barrier flickered once, then faded, dissolving into particles of light that drifted into the air like glowing dust.
Silence settled over the kingdom.
Lira turned to the stranger. “You said this place was Encantasia… so tell me the truth.”
Her voice hardened.
“Who am I?”
The stranger studied her for a long moment.
Then he sighed.
“Alright,” he said. “You deserve to know.”
He stepped forward, motioning for her to follow. Though hesitant, Lira did.
They walked along a narrow path that led toward the towering crystal structures she had seen from afar. Up close, they were even more breathtaking—alive with flowing energy, their surfaces shifting like liquid glass.
“This kingdom,” he began, “was once the center of all magic in the world. Five great realms existed, each ruled by a different power—fire, water, earth, air… and light.”
Lira listened carefully, her heart pounding.
“The royal family of Encantasia,” he continued, “ruled over the light. Not just any magic—but the source of balance itself.”
He stopped walking.
“And you,” he said, turning to her, “are the last of that bloodline.”
Lira felt the words hit her like a physical force.
“No…” she whispered.
“It’s true,” he said. “That mark on your collarbone? It’s not just a symbol. It’s a seal—one that identifies the true heir to the throne.”
Her hand slowly rose to touch it.
“It can’t be…” she said. “If I was a princess… then where is my family?”
The stranger’s expression darkened.
“Gone.”
The word felt heavy.
“Years ago,” he continued, “Encantasia was attacked. Not by an army—but by something far worse.”
Lira’s chest tightened. “The Shadow Prince…”
He nodded.
“He wasn’t always what he is now. Once… he was part of this kingdom.”
Lira froze. “What?”
The stranger’s gaze drifted toward the horizon.
“He was the prince of another realm—one tied to shadow magic. But shadow isn’t evil by nature. It’s balance, just like light.”
“So what happened?” she asked.
“Power,” he said simply.
“He wanted more of it. More than anyone should ever have. When the royal family refused to give him access to the core of Encantasia’s magic… he took it by force.”
Lira’s mind raced as flashes of her earlier vision returned—fire, destruction, screaming.
“You’re saying… he destroyed everything?”
“Yes.”
“And my family…?”
The stranger didn’t speak.
He didn’t have to.
Lira looked away, her chest tightening as the truth settled in.
“I was there…” she murmured. “Wasn’t I?”
He nodded slowly.
“You were just a child. The queen—your mother—used the last of her power to hide you. She sealed your memories and sent you far away, beyond the reach of this world.”
Lira’s breath caught.
“That’s why I don’t remember anything…”
“Yes,” he said. “She wanted to protect you.”
Silence fell between them.
Lira stared at her hands, trying to process everything.
“I’m supposed to be… a princess,” she said quietly. “The last one.”
“Not just a princess,” the stranger corrected.
“The rightful ruler of Encantasia.”
She shook her head. “I don’t know how to do that. I don’t even know how to control my powers.”
“You will,” he said.
“How?” she demanded.
He met her gaze, serious now.
“Because if you don’t,” he said,
“The Shadow Prince will take everything that’s left… and this time, there won’t be anything to stop him.”
Lira’s mark began to glow faintly again.
She felt it—deep within her.
Something awakening.
Something powerful.
Something dangerous.
She looked up at the sky, now calm—but no longer peaceful.
“Then teach me,” she said.
The stranger raised an eyebrow.
“Teach you what?”
Lira’s expression hardened, determination replacing fear.
“How to fight,” she said.
A faint smile crossed his face.
“Alright, Princess,” he replied.
“Let’s see what you’re really made of.”
And far away, hidden within the shadows—
The Shadow Prince watched.
Waiting.
Planning.
Because the game had finally begun.
