"Bad choices lead to drastic measures"
I thought I'd never see him again.
Fifteen long, grueling days had passed since we talked. One operation after another — my whole team was deployed, everyone in different roles. We'd had search warrants, raids with gunfire in a high-risk zone up on the hill. Thank God none of our people went down.
Miguel had been hitting me up for days to go somewhere for drinks and then a good night of fucking. He didn't put it that way, but that's what our outings are really about. The nice thing about going out with Miguel is I don't have to lie to him about my job. He knows we're nothing serious — just sex. We planned to meet at the club. When I got there, he was already waiting in our reserved VIP area. He hugged me immediately, and I didn't waste time either — hugged him back and kissed him on the lips. I'd been going through a serious dry spell. The place was packed. I don't love crowded spots, but he's into this scene.
By some twist of fate, we were all over each other right when the lights swept across us. Our eyes met head-on. For a moment, I felt my heart stutter. It was him — Saullo, standing right there below us in the middle of the crowd.
I tried to pull away when the lights went dark, but Miguel noticed I'd seen someone.
"Who'd you see, Vinicius?" he asked, pulling me back.
"I need to go!" I shouted over the music.
I tried to break free, but he grabbed my arm and forced me to face him.
"Are you crazy? You're gonna ditch me here to chase after someone? Who is it?"
"Fuck, Miguel, it's important!"
I snapped at him, yanking my hands free. I looked down at the floor below — not a trace of Saullo anywhere in the club.
"Who was it, Cruz?" he insisted, pressing close.
"Nobody you know."
"So I'm just the idiot then, huh?"
"Let's just go. The mood's killed."
I tried to step back, but he grabbed me from the side.
"I'm sorry. Let's go to my place — we can finish the night there. I've missed you."
He tried to kiss me, but I wasn't having any of it. In that moment, all I could think about was that Saullo had seen me. This wasn't how I wanted him to find out about my sexuality.
"There's no vibe left tonight. I'm going home, and you're going to your place."
I managed to break free and started down the stairs. He followed, fuming. My eyes swept every corner I passed, but he was gone.
I was furious with myself for being caught like that. We have nothing — Saullo and I — and yet he'd managed to kill my drive for the entire night. I walked ahead with Miguel trailing behind. We made it to the parking lot together.
I waited for him to get in his car and leave. Then I headed home. Got there early and found my mother still up, watching a movie in the living room — her usual excuse to wait for me.
"What bit you?" she asked, looking over her shoulder.
"Nothing."
Dry as a bone.
"Then that's the problem — nobody bit you."
We both smiled. My mother knows me too well. What I wanted most that night was to bite every inch of Saullo's big body. I must be losing my mind — I left Miguel to chase after him. Right now I could be having sex and working off the stress of the past few days. Men usually chase me, not the other way around. Tonight was the first time I've ever found myself hunting for someone in a crowd.
"I'm going to bed, Mom."
I kissed the top of her head and went upstairs to my room.
Now all I can do is take a cold shower and calm down. I need to sort things out with Saullo or I'm going to lose it. He knows I'm into men now, and that I have someone. There's no hiding that I was with a guy.
The question is whether he's into the same thing. If not, I need to forget this man no matter what.
