Helena’s POV
The growl was louder this time.
Deeper.
Closer.
My body froze as the massive werewolf crouched low, its glowing eyes locked onto mine like I was nothing but prey. My heart slammed violently against my chest, each beat echoing in my ears.
“I… I’m not your enemy…” I whispered, my voice trembling.
The creature didn’t care.
It stepped closer.
Its claws scraped against the ground, the sound sharp and chilling in the silent alley. My legs shook so badly I thought I would collapse.
Then it lunged.
I gasped, stumbling backward, panic crashing over me like a wave.
And then—
Another growl.
This one was louder. Stronger.
Dominant.
The aggressive wolf froze mid-step. Its ears twitched as it slowly turned its head toward the darkness behind me.
My breath caught.
Something else was there.
A second figure emerged from the shadows.
Bigger.
Stronger.
Its presence alone made the air feel heavy, charged with power. But unlike the first wolf, it wasn’t wild. It was calm. Controlled.
Watching.
Waiting.
The aggressive wolf let out a low growl, but this time… there was hesitation in it.
Fear.
The larger wolf didn’t attack. It simply stood there, its glowing eyes fixed on the first wolf as if issuing a silent command.
And somehow…
The first wolf understood.
That was my chance.
My instincts screamed at me to run.
I turned and ran as fast as I could.
My heart raced wildly, my breath uneven as I sprinted out of the alley, not daring to look back.
I didn’t stop.
Not until I reached my apartment.
My hands trembled violently as I fumbled with my keys.
“Come on… please…” I whispered desperately.
The door finally opened.
I rushed inside and slammed it shut, locking it immediately.
My back pressed against the door as I slid down to the floor, my chest rising and falling rapidly.
What… was that?
That wasn’t normal.
That wasn’t human.
And somehow…
I felt like my life had just changed forever.
I didn’t sleep that night.
Every little sound made me jump. Every shadow felt like it was watching me.
But worst of all…
I couldn’t stop thinking about the second wolf.
The calm one.
The one that saved me.
There was something about it.
Something… familiar.
The next day
I looked terrible.
Dark circles under my eyes. My body still tense from the night before.
But staying alone wasn’t helping. My thoughts were too loud, too overwhelming.
So I went to the only place that felt normal.
The bar where Hana and Joyce worked.
The moment I walked in, Hana spotted me.
“Helena! What happened to you?” she asked, rushing over.
Joyce followed immediately. “You look like you fought a war.”
I let out a weak laugh. “It feels like I did.”
They pulled me to a seat.
“Talk,” Hana said firmly.
I hesitated.
Then I told them everything.
The alley.
The growl.
The wolves.
Their expressions changed instantly—from curiosity to shock.
“You’re serious?” Joyce asked slowly.
“I wish I wasn’t,” I replied.
Hana grabbed my hand tightly. “Okay, first of all—you’re not going anywhere alone again.”
“And second,” Joyce added, “this is not normal. At all.”
I nodded.
“I know.”
But even as I said it… my mind drifted.
To the second wolf.
Why did it feel like I had seen those eyes before?
We stayed longer than we planned.
Talking. Laughing. Trying to push away the fear.
For a moment, everything felt normal again.
But reality always finds its way back.
When I got home later that evening, my phone buzzed.
A message from my landlord.
“My family is returning. You need to vacate immediately.”
I stared at the message in disbelief.
“What?!”
Panic hit me instantly.
I called—no answer.
I texted—no reply.
I tried thinking of someone—anyone—I could stay with.
No one came to mind.
I was completely alone.
Then I remembered.
Mykel.
My stepbrother.
The only person who had ever truly treated me like family.
Even after our parents remarried, he had always been on my side. Always protective. Always there when I needed him.
If there was anyone I could call… it was him.
After a rushed call, he sent me an address.
“I have a roommate,” he said, “but it’s fine. Just stay there until I get back.”
“Are you sure?” I asked.
“Of course. You’re my sister, Helena. You don’t even need to ask.”
My chest warmed slightly at his words.
“Thank you…”
“I’ll explain everything later. I have to go—emergency,” he added before the line went dead.
Dragging my suitcase behind me, I stood in front of the apartment door.
Something felt… off.
The hallway was too quiet.
Too still.
A strange chill ran down my spine.
For a moment, I hesitated.
But I had no choice.
I unlocked the door.
And stepped inside.
I froze.
Damon Blake stood in the living room.
Arms crossed. Watching me.
Like he had been expecting me.
My breath caught.
“What are you doing here?!” I blurted out.
He looked just as surprised.
“Helena?”
The air between us shifted instantly.
Heavy.
Tense.
“I… Mykel said I could stay here…” I stammered.
Realization crossed his face slowly.
“You’re the one he was talking about.”
My heart pounded.
“This was supposed to be my safe place…” I whispered.
He stepped closer.
Too close.
“You don’t look very safe,” he said quietly.
My breath hitched.
There was something in his eyes.
Something dark.
Something powerful.
And strangely…
Something familiar.
For a brief second…
I felt the same presence from the alley.
That calm power.
My chest tightened.
No…
It couldn’t be.
Daniel’s POV
Something wasn’t right.
I could feel it.
Helena was hiding something.
And I didn’t like it.
Not one bit.
Then there was Damon Blake.
The way he looked at her…
The way she reacted to him…
It made my blood boil.
My fists clenched tightly.
She was mine.
She had always been mine.
And I wasn’t about to let anyone take her away from me.
I grabbed my keys, my jaw tightening.
Enough was enough.
Tonight…
I would find her.
And when I did—
She would answer to me.
