Chapter Three: The Queen’s Domain

Chapter Three: The Queen’s Domain

Morning didn’t begin in her world.

It assembled itself around her.

The black car slid to a stop in front of the building—silent, expensive, untouchable.

Above it, towering into the sky like a declaration of power, stood her empire’s core—

INFERNEX SYSTEMS

A name whispered in the tech world with equal parts admiration… and fear.

A company that didn’t just build systems—

It controlled them.

One hundred floors of glass, steel, and precision.

At the very top—hidden from public records—

a private penthouse.

A helipad.

A pool overlooking the city, as it belonged to her.

Because it did.

The car door opened.

And the atmosphere changed.

Employees who had just been walking, talking, breathing normally—

stopped.

Straightened.

Aligned.

By the time Cassandra Volkov stepped out—

They were already in formation.

Two lines.

Perfect.

Silent.

Waiting.

She didn’t look at them.

Didn’t acknowledge them.

Didn’t need to.

Because the moment her heel touched the ground—

They bowed.

“Good morning, Ma’am.”

Voices synchronized. Controlled.

Respect—not forced.

Earned.

Cassandra walked forward without a single pause.

Black heels. Sharp rhythm. Measured power in every step.

Her long dark hair flowed behind her, catching the morning light just enough to soften what couldn’t be softened—her presence.

Beautiful.

Yes.

But not gentle.

Her black eyes didn’t wander.

Didn’t linger.

They moved only with purpose.

Beside her—

Three figures walked in perfect alignment.

Mathew.

Her secretary.

Tall. Composed. Sharp suit, sharper mind.

The only person in the entire building who could speak to her without asking permission first.

The only one who handled everything before it reached her.

Schedules. Transactions. Meetings. Threats.

Even her food.

Because trust—

wasn’t given.

It was built.

And Mathew had earned every inch of it.

Behind them—

Carl and Nick.

Her shadows.

Her shields.

Her weapons.

Both tall. Both were built as war itself had shaped them.

Black coats. Cold eyes. No wasted movement.

The underworld knew their names.

And feared them.

No one approached Cassandra.

No one stood too close.

Not unless they wanted to disappear.

Inside the building—

Security didn’t exist.

It dominated.

Cameras everywhere.

Not dozens.

Not hundreds.

Thousands.

Every hallway. Every corner. Every shadow.

Watching.

Recording.

Analyzing.

The entrance required more than identity—

It demanded proof.

Face recognition.

Palm scan.

Encrypted ID clearance.

No one entered unless the system said yes.

And the system—

belonged to her.

Deliveries never touched the main floor.

Everything went through the back.

Screened.

Checked.

Rechecked.

Handled by internal staff trained for one purpose—

nothing reaches her unless it’s clean.

Because too many had tried before.

Poison.

Weapons.

Hidden trackers.

Assassins disguised as employees.

All of them failed.

All of them learned the same lesson—

Cassandra Volkov was not easy to kill.

They walked through the main hallway.

Employees lowered their heads as she passed.

No whispers.

No lingering looks.

Only awareness.

Because everyone inside this building knew something the outside world didn’t—

This wasn’t just a company.

It was a system.

A controlled environment where every person had been shaped, trained, and chosen.

HR.

IT.

Marketing.

Logistics.

Receiving.

Delivery.

Graphic design.

Multimedia.

Even the cafeteria staff.

Even the cleaners.

None of them was ordinary.

Because Cassandra didn’t hire randomly.

She built people.

From the ground up.

Years ago—

She created something no one else dared to.

A school.

Not public.

Not known.

A place where students were taken in regardless of background.

No money required.

No status needed.

Only one condition—

loyalty.

They studied.

They trained.

They learned skills the world didn’t teach.

Combat.

Weapons.

Cyber systems.

Discipline.

Control.

Even those who cooked.

Even those who cleaned.

Every single one of them—

could fight.

Could defend.

Could survive.

In return—

They were given everything.

Education.

Shelter.

Food.

A future.

And when they graduated—

They didn’t leave.

They entered her world.

Her company.

Her system.

Her protection.

Because once you were inside—

You belonged.

The private elevator doors opened before she even reached them.

No buttons.

No access panel.

It recognized her.

Responded to her.

Only she could use it.

No one else.

Not even Mathew.

Not even Carl or Nick.

Cassandra stepped inside.

The others remained outside.

The doors closed.

Silence.

Ascending.

Top floor.

The doors opened into her domain.

Glass walls.

Minimal design.

Luxury without excess.

Control without noise.

She walked straight to her desk.

Already prepared.

Already organized.

Because Mathew had made sure of it.

He entered moments later, placing a tablet in front of her.

“Today’s schedule,” he said calmly.

She didn’t look at him.

Just listened.

“Three board meetings. Two international calls. One private consultation.”

A pause.

“And a flagged security anomaly from last night.”

That made her eyes shift—just slightly.

“Handled?” she asked.

“Contained,” Mathew replied.

Careful word choice.

Cassandra sat down slowly.

Her fingers brushed against her laptop.

Screen lighting up instantly.

Alive.

Waiting.

“Leave it,” she said.

Mathew nodded once.

No questions.

He stepped back.

Carl and Nick remained near the entrance—silent, unmoving, watching everything.

Always.

Cassandra leaned back in her chair.

The city stretched before her.

Everything moving.

Everything alive.

Everything… predictable.

Except for one thing.

Her fingers tapped lightly on the desk.

Once.

Twice.

Then she opened a secure network.

Layers of encryption unfolded instantly.

Access granted.

A familiar space.

Dark.

Silent.

Watching.

She scanned it.

Nothing unusual.

No intrusion.

No trace.

Clean.

Too clean.

Her lips curved slightly.

“…Still hiding.”

Not frustration.

Not irritation.

Something else.

Anticipation.

Because somewhere—

Someone was watching her just as closely.

Waiting.

Testing.

Playing.

Cassandra rested her chin lightly against her hand, eyes focused on the screen.

“Let’s see how long you last,” she murmured softly.

Her gaze flickered briefly—

toward one of the cameras in her office.

Silent.

Still.

But this time—

Her expression shifted.

Just a little.

A dangerous kind of calm.

Because if he was watching—

Then she would let him.

For now.

Behind her—

Carl’s voice broke the silence for the first time.

“Something wrong?”

Cassandra didn’t turn.

“No.”

A pause.

Then—

“Something interesting.”

And that—

was far more dangerous.
