The magical night of the JS Prom eventually came to an end, but the memory stayed fresh in Velle’s heart. For her, that night was the perfect closing chapter of their junior year. But as days passed, reality slowly sank in—this beautiful phase of their lives was really coming to a finish.
The final weeks of school were filled with activities, clearingances, and preparations for graduation. Everyone was busy, yet there was a heavy feeling in the air. It was a mix of excitement for the future and sadness about leaving the memories behind.
During this time, Velle tried her best to spend as much time as possible with Medalle and her friends. She knew that once graduation day arrived, paths would separate, and nothing would ever be the same again.
Then the day finally came. The graduation ceremony was held in the school auditorium, decorated with flowers and banners. The atmosphere was emotional, with parents cheering loudly and students holding back tears.
When it was time to award the honors, both Velle and Medalle were called on stage as top students. Standing side by side, receiving their medals and diplomas, Velle couldn’t help but steal a glance at him. “If only time could stop right here,” she thought.
After the ceremony, the whole campus turned into a chaotic yet happy scene. Everyone was busy taking pictures, signing yearbooks, and exchanging contact numbers. Hugs and tears were everywhere.
Medalle walked towards Velle, holding his yearbook and a pen.
“Can you write something for me here, Velle?” he asked with his usual warm smile.
Velle nodded, taking the book. Her hand hovered over the blank page. There were so many things she wanted to say—I love you, I’ve loved you since 2017, you are the best part of my youth—but she swallowed all those words and wrote something safe instead:
"Thank you for being part of my high school life. You made every day brighter and memorable. I wish you all the success and happiness in the world. Don’t forget me, okay? - Velle"
She handed it back to him. Medalle read it and smiled softly. “Thank you, Velle. I’ll keep this forever.”
He also wrote on her yearbook:
"To my quiet and wonderful friend, thank you for the good memories. You are one of the most genuine people I know. Let’s stay in touch always. Good luck on your dreams. - Medalle"
Reading his message made tears well up in her eyes. This was it. The end of the road for them as classmates.
“Take care always, Velle,” Medalle said, waving as he walked towards his family waiting by the gate.
“You too, Medalle. Take care,” she whispered, watching his back until he disappeared from her sight.
That was the last time she saw him for a very long time.
Life moved on quickly after graduation. They entered different universities, took different courses, and lived in different places. At first, they would still chat and message each other from time to time, asking how things were going. But as years went by, responsibilities grew, new people came into their lives, and slowly, communication faded until it stopped completely.
Velle focused on building her future. She finished her studies, landed a good job, met someone who loved her sincerely, got married, and was blessed with a lovely child. Her life was complete, peaceful, and happy.
But no matter how many years passed, there was one thing that never changed. Deep in her heart, a special space was always reserved for Medalle Hunts—the boy who taught her how to love silently, and the memory that would always remain as the most beautiful part of her youth.
