I Married the CEO I Was Sent to Ruin

Chapter 1: A Deal Signed in Silence

The room was too cold.

Not because of the air conditioning—but because of the man sitting behind the desk.

Elara Voss noticed it the moment she stepped into Adrian Valtier’s office. The space was vast and precise, all sharp lines and glass walls overlooking the glittering city below. Everything about it spoke of control.

And at the center of it—

Him.

Adrian didn’t acknowledge her immediately. He finished signing the document in front of him with slow, deliberate movements, as if nothing in the world could rush him. Only then did he set the pen down and lift his gaze.

Sharp. Assessing. Unreadable.

“You’re late.”

His voice was calm, but it carried authority.

Elara stepped forward without hesitation, placing her file neatly on the desk.

“I’m exactly on time.”

Silence stretched between them.

Most people would have looked away under that stare.

She didn’t.

Adrian leaned back slightly, studying her like something that had caught his unexpected interest.

“Sit.”

“I’d prefer to stand,” she replied evenly. “This won’t take long.”

A faint flicker of amusement crossed his face.

“Then let’s not waste time,” he said. “I need a wife.”

The words settled heavily in the room.

Elara didn’t laugh. She didn’t question the absurdity of it. Instead, she tilted her head slightly, as if evaluating a business proposal.

“On paper?”

“Of course,” Adrian replied. “A contract marriage. One year.”

Her gaze sharpened.

“And why me?”

Without answering, he slid a file across the desk.

She opened it.

Her life—summarized. Education, legal victories, professional history. Even details that should have been buried deeper than this.

Elara closed the file slowly.

“You’ve done your research.”

“I don’t make uninformed decisions,” he said. “You’re efficient, intelligent, and discreet. Most importantly—you don’t get emotionally involved.”

That made her pause for just a second.

“And what do I get?” she asked.

“Protection. Influence. And a name no one dares to touch.”

She met his eyes, steady and unyielding.

“And what do you get?”

This time, Adrian leaned forward slightly, his voice dropping.

“Control.”

The word lingered.

A quiet understanding passed between them—this was not just a contract. It was a calculated move.

“You don’t want a wife,” Elara said softly. “You want a shield.”

“And you,” Adrian replied, watching her closely, “aren’t just a lawyer.”

For a brief moment, something sharp and unspoken filled the space between them.

A warning.

A challenge.

Then Elara smiled.

Calm. Controlled. Dangerous.

“Looks like we’ll get along, Mr. Valtier.”

He slid the contract toward her.

“No emotional involvement. No interference in my personal affairs. No questions.”

Elara glanced at the pages, then back at him.

“You’re asking the wrong woman not to ask questions.”

A faint smirk appeared on his lips.

“And yet… you’re exactly the one I need.”

Their eyes locked.

Neither of them looked away.

Because what Adrian Valtier didn’t know—

Was that Elara Voss hadn’t walked into his office by coincidence.

She had been sent.

Carefully chosen to get close to him, to uncover every secret he was hiding.

And if necessary—

To destroy him.

But what Elara didn’t know…

Was that Adrian Valtier was far more dangerous than the mission she had accepted.

And this contract—

Was not the beginning of a marriage.

It was the beginning of a war.
