PROTECT MOMMA

...The next day...

"Momma?" The boy opened his eyes. "Good morning baby". The woman greeted upon seeing her little child. "You didn't go to work this morning?" He asked surprised. His mother was the one who would have left very early before he was awake except weekends. But today was literally Wednesday and his mom was home, something just wasn't right.

"What's wrong?" The woman asked staring at her son's suspicious face. "Nothing". He brushed off the feeling and walked up to her where she squatted, wrapping his short arms around her neck. "I made some banana bread and soy milk. I'll get your food served now". She got up from he squatting position and headed to the kitchen to get his food.

"Do you like it?" She stared at the boy as he munch down on his food. He hadn't eaten something warm and nice for months. They had always lived on dry crackers and now he was having something nice. His childish smile spread across his face as he nodded answering in his mouth question. She smiled back at him delighted. She would definitely do anything to make her son continue to smile.

...

"Baby". She suddenly called out from outside. The little boy ran out to meet his mother. "Yes momma?". He stopped next to her with a questioning look. "We ran out of flour. Can you quickly go buy some?" The woman asked with a smile while handing him 3 coins. "Hmm". He nodded and received the coins before hopping away.

..."Who offended the loaners this time?"

"I think is the pretty slut that has a white haired child".

"Really? The one who lives in a piled up woods?"

"I guess she probably owed him some money and now he's here for her".

"Being here only means death. He's definitely going to get her injured".

"I heard some weeks ago. A woman owed him a huge sum and couldn't pay up. As a payment for the money he asked her to be his concubine and she refused. A day later a body was found hanging upside down on a tree".

"Oh my... That's so brutal... Would he do the same to..."

On his way back home, he heard the women gossiping but he cared less about their talk then something caught his attention. He heard his mother's name... clearly. She was the only one with the name in the whole slum. Aurelia- meaning the golden noble. "No". He sprinted towards his house as fast as his short legs could carry him.

Upon reaching his house he spotted a large crowd of people that had gathered around. He could hear his mother's voice and a masculine voice also. Making his way through the crowd, his mother was kneeing, her fair face now full of blood. His house was now in debris.

"Silence you filthy woman" The man slapped her across the face then pulled her up roughly by the hair. The child clenched his fist furious. His mother was being beaten up like an animal and everyone watched without doing anything. It wasn't new to him, everyone saw them as walking shame. They were poorest of the poor in the slum.

"Don't hit my momma". The little boy let go of the bowl of flour in his hands and threw himself at the loaner. "Baby". The mother called out in fear. The loaners weren't going to let her go and the son was only going to get caught up in the mess.

The hefty man kicked the little boy making him lose his grip him and roll on the dust. "RUN" She yelled at him. "No. I'm not leaving you behind". The boy got up again standing between the loaner and his seriously injured mother. The loaner arched his eyebrow in disgust and annoyance.

"You really are a lousy pest". The man brought his cigar close to his lips then puffed out a ring of smoke towards the little boy. "I like your courage. How about I teach you a lesson also". The man smirked.
