One Shot: “Say It Again”

🌙 One Shot: “Say It Again”

The car was quieter tonight.

Not empty.

Not awkward.

Just… different.

---

Something had changed.

Between you.

---

You sat beside him, hands folded tightly in your lap, eyes fixed on the passing lights outside.

Avoiding him.

Deliberately.

---

He noticed.

Of course he did.

He noticed everything about you.

---

A slow smirk curved his lips as he drove, one hand resting lazily on the steering wheel.

“You’ve been very quiet,” he said casually.

---

“I’m just tired,” you replied quickly.

Too quickly.

---

His smirk deepened.

“Hmm.”

---

Silence again.

But this time—

It wasn’t comfortable.

It was heavy.

Filled with everything neither of you was saying.

---

“You weren’t this quiet earlier,” he added, voice softer now.

Your fingers tightened slightly.

“Earlier was different.”

---

He let out a low chuckle.

Dark. Knowing.

“Was it?”

---

Your cheeks warmed instantly.

And that—

That was exactly what he was waiting for.

---

The car slowed slightly.

Not stopping.

Just enough.

---

His hand moved.

Not suddenly.

Never suddenly.

---

It reached over—

And rested over yours.

---

You froze.

Your breath catching.

---

“Still nervous?” he murmured.

---

You swallowed.

“No.”

---

He tilted his head slightly, glancing at you.

That look—

Sharp. Amused. Possessive.

---

“Liar.”

---

Your heart stumbled.

---

His fingers shifted, slowly intertwining with yours.

Not forceful.

But deliberate.

---

“You couldn’t even look at me when you got in the car,” he continued, voice low.

---

“I can look at you,” you muttered, finally turning your face slightly.

---

He caught it immediately.

That tiny movement.

That hesitation.

---

“Then do it.”

---

Your breath hitched.

---

“You’re very confident,” you said instead, trying to deflect.

---

“I have a reason to be.”

That smirk again.

Dangerous now.

---

Your pulse raced.

---

“You’ve been avoiding me since we left,” he went on.

His thumb brushed slowly against your knuckles.

“And I’m trying to understand why.”

---

“I’m not avoiding you,” you insisted softly.

---

“No?”

He leaned slightly closer.

Not enough to trap you.

Just enough to make you aware.

---

“Then why won’t you say it again?”

---

Your heart stopped.

---

“Say what?” you whispered, even though you knew.

---

His grip tightened just slightly.

Not enough to hurt.

Enough to hold your attention.

---

“What you said before you left.”

---

Heat rushed to your face.

“I didn’t—”

---

“You did.”

His voice dropped.

Lower.

More intense.

---

“You just didn’t expect me to remember.”

---

You looked down.

Unable to meet his eyes now.

---

“That was different,” you murmured.

---

A soft exhale left him.

Not frustrated.

Amused.

---

“Everything about you becomes ‘different’ when I ask you to repeat it.”

---

His fingers slipped from yours—

Only to tilt your chin upward.

Gently.

Firmly.

---

“Look at me.”

---

You hesitated.

Then did.

---

And instantly regretted it.

---

Because he was already watching you like that.

Like you were something he had already claimed—

Just waiting for you to realize it.

---

“Say it,” he murmured.

---

Your lips parted.

But no words came out.

---

His thumb brushed your lower lip lightly.

Not crossing the line.

Just enough to make your breath uneven.

---

“You weren’t this shy when you said it before,” he said quietly.

---

Your voice came out barely audible.

“You’re making it difficult.”

---

A soft, dark chuckle left him.

---

“I’m not making it difficult.”

He leaned closer.

Stopping just short of you.

---

“I’m making you honest.”

---

Your heart was racing now.

Loud enough you were sure he could hear it.

---

“Say it,” he whispered again.

---

This time—

You didn’t look away.

---

“I… missed you.”

---

Silence.

---

And then—

That smirk disappeared.

---

Something deeper replaced it.

Something far more dangerous.

---

His hand slid from your chin slowly.

Like he was restraining himself.

---

“I know,” he said quietly.

---

Your breath hitched.

---

“I just wanted to hear you admit it again.”

---

And as he leaned back—

Calm.

Controlled.

Like he hadn’t just unraveled you—

---

His fingers brushed yours once more.

Possessive.

Certain.

---

“Next time,” he added softly,

“don’t make me ask twice.”
