Chapter 5: interruption

The air didn’t return to normal in the middle of the kiss.

It stayed there.

Heavy.

Studying each other while they kissed.

As if neither of them was willing to break the moment… but neither willing to surrender it.

Sienna didn’t pull back.

Neither did Elias.

Their hands remained close, their breathing near, too defined.

—That doesn’t change anything… —she murmured, though her voice didn’t come out as steady as she wanted.

Elias tilted his head slightly, watching her as if he had just discovered something interesting.

—I know.

But he didn’t pull away.

His hand found Sienna’s waist, firm… leaving no room for doubt.

He lifted her and placed her against the table, ruining everything around them and breaking the perfection of the place.

She didn’t stop him.

But she didn’t fully allow it either.

She stayed there.

In that dangerous point where neither loses… but neither wins.

—You’re crossing a line —she said in a low voice.

—No —he replied, leaning slightly closer—. I’m seeing how far you can go.

The silence between them tightened again.

Sienna placed her hands on the table behind her, holding onto the minimal distance that remained.

—You’re getting confused.

—I don’t usually do that.

Elias didn’t take his eyes off her lips, and Sienna didn’t either.

He studied her.

As if trying to decipher her in that very moment.

—This isn’t control —she added—. It’s impulse.

That made him smile slightly.

—And does that bother you?

Sienna held the kiss with more intensity.

—It bores me.

At that moment, she placed her hands behind his neck, kissing him with more intensity.

She was lying.

And he knew it.

It showed in the way his hand tightened slightly on her waist.

It wasn’t too rough.

But it was enough.

The limit between them disappeared.

—Then stop me —he murmured.

The challenge began.

Direct.

Without disguise.

Sienna didn’t respond immediately.

Her fingers held on for one more second.

Then…

—You’re not as important as you think.

But she didn’t pull away.

Elias lowered his gaze for a second… and then returned to her eyes.

—That’s not what you’re showing.

The atmosphere grew denser.

More dangerous.

Harder to ignore.

They began to undress slowly.

And then—

The door burst open.

—Mr. Valli.

They both separated just enough.

Not like they had been interrupted…

but as if they had simply decided to stop.

The security man hesitated for a second before continuing.

—We have a problem.

Elias didn’t look at Sienna.

—Speak.

—One of the main banks has just blocked part of the assets that were moved this morning.

Silence.

Sienna reacted first.

—What?

The guard continued.

—Not only that… there’s an open investigation. Someone leaked information about the previous investment.

That changed everything.

Elias turned completely.

—Who?

—We don’t know yet.

Elias stood up fully, adjusting and buttoning his shirt properly.

Sienna let out a low, humorless laugh, lying on the table.

—Of course.

They both knew what it meant.

This wasn’t a mistake.

It was an attack.

—Someone wants to see us fall before this even begins —she said, crossing her arms.

Elias looked at her.

Evaluating.

—Or someone isn’t happy about us working together.

Sienna held his gaze.

—Do you think it was me?

—I think everyone here has reasons to betray.

Challenging silence.

The air tightened.

—Including you —she added.

Elias smiled slightly.

—Especially me.

The atmosphere changed completely.

What was once physical tension…

was now strategy.

War between unknown entities.

—I need names —Elias said to the guard—. And I want to know who benefited first from this move.

—Yes, sir.

The door closed.

And the silence returned.

But it wasn’t the same.

Sienna stepped away from the table slowly.

—This isn’t a coincidence.

—No.

—Then someone is playing before we are.

Elias walked toward the desk, taking his phone.

—Then we’re late.

Sienna watched him.

—And what do you do when someone gets ahead of you?

Elias lifted his gaze.

Cold.

Precise.

—I take away their advantage.

That made Sienna smile slightly.

—Good… just as I thought.

Pause.

—Because I’m not planning to lose again.

Elias looked at her for a second more.

And for the first time since everything began…

he didn’t respond immediately.

Because now there was something different.

Something that wasn’t in the contract.

Or in the plan.

Trust… no.

But something close.

Dangerous.

—Then you’d better start playing seriously —he said finally.

Sienna turned toward the exit.

—I never stopped.

And this time…

there was no kiss.

No closeness.

Only one clear truth:

This was no longer a deal.

It was a war.

And someone else…

Sienna didn’t move immediately.

Her eyes stayed on him, analyzing every gesture, every word, every pause.

—You’re not the only one who knows how to play these kinds of games, Elias… —she said finally, with a calm that contrasted with what had just happened—. You’re just used to no one questioning you.

Elias didn’t respond.

He watched her.

Waiting.

—I can help you —she continued, slowly getting off the table, unhurried—. I’m not as bad at this as you think.

The silence wasn’t uncomfortable.

It was measured.

—I don’t need help —he replied.

Sienna smiled slightly.

—No, of course not… —she stepped closer—. But you’re accepting it from the moment you brought me here.

That made him look at her differently.

More attentive.

More calculating.

—This isn’t a favor —she added—. It’s an investment.

Elias leaned slightly closer, brushing his lips near hers.

—And what makes you think you’re a good investment?

Sienna didn’t hesitate.

—Because you already lost one move today… and I didn’t.

That shifted the atmosphere.

Direct.

Without hesitation.

—I can see things you’re not seeing —she continued—. Movements, patterns… mistakes.

She crossed her arms.

—And if someone is playing against us… then you need more than control.

Pause.

—You need anticipation.

Elias watched her for a few more seconds.

In silence.

Evaluating.

As if recalculating something.

—You speak with a lot of confidence for someone who was about to lose everything.

Sienna didn’t flinch.

—And yet I didn’t lose.

He liked that.

It showed.

—Good —he said finally—. Then prove it.

Sienna held his gaze.

—I will.

—You heard her.

The atmosphere shifted again.

But this time, it wasn’t physical tension.

It was something more dangerous.

An alliance… no.

But something close.

And that…

was far more unpredictable.
