The theme park was getting busier as the afternoon faded into a softer golden light. Laughter echoed from nearby rides, and the air smelled faintly of popcorn and sugar.
Aria walked slightly ahead of Ethan and Mira, holding two drinks carefully so they wouldn’t spill. She was still smiling, still happy but something about the day felt a little… uneven now.
Not bad.
Just different.
“Here,” she said, handing one drink to Ethan. “I got your usual.”
Ethan took it with a small smile. “Thanks.”
Mira stepped closer, looking at Aria’s drink. “You didn’t get me anything?”
Aria blinked. “Oh I thought you said you didn’t want one earlier.”
Mira paused for a second, then smiled quickly. “I did? Maybe I forgot.”
“It’s okay,” Aria said gently. “We can share later if you want.”
Mira nodded. “Sure.”
But something about her smile didn’t quite reach her eyes this time.
They moved toward a quieter area of the park where benches lined a small walkway. Aria sat down for a moment, relaxing her tired legs.
Ethan stood nearby, checking his phone briefly.
Mira sat down next to Aria, leaning back slightly. “This place is actually nicer than I thought.”
Aria smiled. “Right? I like it here too.”
Mira glanced toward Ethan, who was a little further away.
“Ethan seems… quiet today,” she said casually.
Aria turned her head slightly. “He’s always like that. He’s just not very loud.”
Mira hummed softly. “Hmm…”
Aria didn’t notice the pause that followed.
A few minutes later, Ethan walked over.
“Want to go on the Ferris wheel next?” he asked.
Aria’s face brightened immediately. “Yes!”
Mira stood up too. “I’ll come as well.”
Aria nodded without hesitation. “Of course.”
But Ethan paused for a fraction of a second before replying.
“…Yeah. Sure.”
It was small.
Almost nothing.
But Mira noticed it.
The sun was beginning to lower, painting the sky in soft orange tones as they stepped into the cabin.
Aria sat beside Ethan, looking outside in quiet excitement. Mira sat across from them, leaning slightly toward the window.
“It’s beautiful from up here,” Aria said softly.
Ethan nodded. “Yeah.”
Mira smiled faintly. “It is.”
For a moment, there was silence.
Then Mira turned slightly toward Ethan.
“You seem like someone who doesn’t usually enjoy these kinds of things,” she said lightly.
Ethan glanced at her. “What makes you say that?”
Mira shrugged. “Just a feeling.”
Another pause.
Aria looked between them. “You two are talking a lot today.”
Mira quickly laughed. “We are? Not really.”
Ethan nodded once. “Just random stuff.”
Aria smiled again, trusting them completely. “Okay.”
But Mira’s eyes lingered on Ethan for a second longer than necessary before she looked away.
After the ride, they walked out together. Aria stretched slightly, smiling.
“That was fun,” she said.
Ethan nodded. “It was.”
Mira walked a step behind them now.
At one point, Ethan slowed down slightly to match Mira’s pace instead of Aria’s.
Aria didn’t notice.
Mira did.
“Do you come here often?” Mira asked quietly.
Ethan shook his head. “No.”
Then Mira said softly, almost casually, “You don’t seem like someone who gets attached easily.”
Ethan looked at her briefly. “Maybe.”
That single word hung in the air a little too long.
Aria turned back. “Are you coming?”
Both of them immediately shifted their expressions.
“Yeah,” Ethan said.
“Of course,” Mira added quickly.
They continued walking.
But something invisible had already started to form between them something Aria couldn’t see from where she was standing ahead.
Later, while Aria stopped to look at a small shop, Mira and Ethan stood a little apart behind her.
“She really trusts people easily,” Mira said softly.
Ethan didn’t respond immediately.
Then he said, “She’s always been like that.”
Mira nodded slowly. “Yeah… I noticed.”
A quiet pause followed.
Aria turned around again, smiling. “Let’s go eat something!”
Both of them smiled back.
“Okay,” Ethan said.
“Sure,” Mira replied.
And they followed her.
But for the first time… it didn’t feel completely the same anymore.
