The next day, I found out which class he was in.

Well, “found out” wasn’t really the right word.

People talked about that class all the time anyway.

The competition team class.

The class full of students chosen for district competitions.

And of course, he was in it.

He just looked like the kind of person who always knew what he was doing.

Our school was built in a U-shape, so if you wanted to, you could walk one whole round around the corridors before going back to class.

I pulled her toward the canteen anyway.

After buying snacks, I casually pointed toward the longer hallway.

“Let’s walk around a bit.”

“So we can digest.”

She stared at me like I was insane, but still followed me anyway.

As we walked through the hallway, my friend kept complaining about her middle-school relationship for the entire break time.

“I’m serious, he literally just left my paragraph on read.”

“Maybe he was busy?”

She dramatically stabbed the sausage stick in her hand like she was trying to kill somebody.

“Boys are actually so annoying.”

I listened quietly while sipping from my juice box.

Honestly, I didn’t really understand romance that well back then.

I had never liked anyone before.

Everything I knew about love mostly came from romance novels, random edits online, and stories my friends told me during lunch break.

So after thinking seriously for a moment, I asked,

“Hey… do you think there’s actually someone out there who’s handsome, smart, and would love you wholeheartedly?”

My friend looked at me like I had lost my mind.

“Girl, wake up.”

“So that kind of person doesn’t exist?”(　˙-˙　)

“That kind of person only exists in fiction.”

“…That’s kinda sad.”

“Very.”

Then, while she kept ranting about her boyfriend, we passed by the competition team classrooms.

And almost without thinking, I glanced over.

Just for a second.

The classroom windows were open that day, and the soft afternoon wind drifted lazily through the white curtains. Sunlight spilled across the desks in warm golden patches while laughter echoed softly from inside the room.

And there he was.

Sitting near the window again.

One sleeve slightly rolled up while he leaned back in his chair, casually arguing with the guy beside him over a game on his phone.

“THAT DOESN’T COUNT.”

“It literally does.”

“YOU CHEATED.”

“Skill issue.”

Someone behind him laughed loudly.

He laughed too.

And somehow, the entire classroom suddenly felt brighter because of it.

I quietly looked away before my friend noticed anything.

Then I took another sip from my juice box and thought to myself—

Well…

someone who matched about ninety percent of that description already existed though\~

I laughed a little without realizing it.

“Why are you smiling?” my friend immediately asked.

My expression froze.

“…Huh?”

“You’ve been smiling to yourself this whole time.”

I quickly looked away and took another sip from my juice box before mumbling,

“Ah… the weather’s just really nice today.”

Then I wrapped an arm around her waist dramatically.

“That’s why I love you sooo much\~ hehe.”

“…Get off me.”

But she still let me cling to her while we walked back to class anyway. (￣▽￣)
