...Chia’s POV...
I woke up from that nightmare again.
Alone inside the house my grandmother bought for me. This place always gave me peace, but the memories from that night still continued to haunt me.
I slowly sat up on my bed. The house only had one floor—no upstairs, no unnecessary space. Simple and quiet, just the way I liked it. I grabbed the glass beside my bed and stood up, walking toward the kitchen to drink some water and clear my mind.
“Same nightmare again… as always,” I muttered with a deep sigh.
I looked around while turning on the kitchen light. The house had three empty bedrooms. My grandmother would always tell me to find friends and stop isolating myself.
But did I really need one?
What if they betrayed me again, just like my old dorm mate did?
I gave a bitter smile while pouring myself another glass of water, trying to calm my thoughts. Suddenly, my phone rang, making me jump slightly.
I placed the glass down and walked back toward my room to get my phone. The screen showed it was already five in the morning.
The number calling me looked painfully familiar.
It was from my so-called family.
I answered the call while walking back toward the kitchen.
“What do you want?” I asked coldly, rolling my eyes as I tried to steady my breathing.
“Our grandmother’s birthday is coming up. Come back to the main Carrington house.”
The voice on the other line sounded deep and familiar—too familiar.
It was my so-called brother, Jasver.
The same man who used to convince my father to lock me inside that tiny basement.
That was where my claustrophobia started.
Because of them.
Because of that cursed place they called the Carrington house.
“I’m busy,” I replied coldly.
“Grandma wants to see you.”
“Oh really? Gusto niya talaga akong makita? Or gusto n’yo lang akong makita ulit na tinotorture ninyo kasama ng mga magulang natin?” I leaned against the counter while drinking my water.
“Listen, Jasver,” I continued, my voice turning sharper. “Hindi na ako ‘yung dating Mychia Carrington na kaya ninyong abusuhin. I’m not that soft girl anymore.”
Without waiting for his response, I ended the call and placed my phone on the counter.
A small smile slowly appeared on my lips.
Because for the first time in my life…
this finally felt like freedom.
