chapter 4: The Hidden Door

After that night, everything should have returned to normal.

It should have.

The moon had disappeared beyond the horizon. Morning had arrived as it always did. The palace servants carried trays through bright halls. Guards changed shifts. Ministers walked through royal chambers with important documents in hand.

Everything looked the same.

Everything sounded the same.

And yet—

Nothing felt the same.

Not for Princess Taehyung.

Not after what happened beneath the moon.

---

Sunlight poured through the tall windows of Taehyung’s room, painting soft patterns across the floor.

Normally, mornings brought routine.

Lessons.

Meetings.

Royal duties.

The predictable rhythm of palace life.

But today, Taehyung sat beside her window in complete silence.

A book rested open in her hands.

Unread.

Tea sat beside her.

Untouched.

Because her thoughts were elsewhere.

Far away.

Or perhaps... not far at all.

Slowly, she lifted her gaze toward the gardens below.

The exact gardens where she had met him.

The stranger.

The boy with hidden eyes.

The one she should have feared.

The one she should have reported immediately.

Instead...

She remembered his voice.

His expression.

And most of all—

That moment.

"Princess."

Her fingers tightened around the edge of the book.

Her chest felt strange again.

Why had he called her that?

How had he known?

And perhaps more importantly—

Why had hearing his voice felt so familiar?

Taehyung lowered her eyes.

No matter how many times she replayed it in her mind, nothing made sense.

And then there was that memory.

Or dream.

Or whatever it had been.

Moonlight.

An ancient hallway.

And a voice saying:

"I will find you in every lifetime."

Every time she remembered it, a strange ache settled inside her heart.

Not pain.

Not sadness.

Something deeper.

Like missing someone she couldn't remember.

"Princess?"

Taehyung blinked.

A maid stood near the doorway.

"Your morning meeting will begin soon."

For a moment, Taehyung simply stared.

Then slowly she nodded.

"...I understand."

But even as she stood—

Her thoughts remained trapped in the night before.

Meanwhile, somewhere else inside the palace grounds

Jungkook had a much larger problem.

He was lost.

Completely.

Thoroughly.

Hopelessly lost.

And Prince Jungkook hated being lost.

Especially inside enemy territory.

He stood beside an unfamiliar hallway and stared ahead with narrowed eyes.

"This wasn't here before."

Silence.

Nothing answered him.

Of course nothing answered.

Still, frustration slowly crossed his face.

He had spent hours trying to leave.

Hours.

And somehow every turn led him farther inward rather than outward.

Left corridor.

Dead end.

Right hallway.

Storage room.

Garden path.

Another hallway.

Every direction felt wrong.

And stranger than that—

His feet kept moving without permission.

Not literally.

But close enough.

Every instinct inside him should have been searching for escape.

Instead...

Something else pulled him forward.

A quiet feeling deep inside his chest.

A pull.

Not physical.

Not logical.

But impossible to ignore.

He stopped walking.

His eyebrows furrowed.

"What's wrong with me?"

No answer came.

Only silence.

Jungkook leaned against an old stone pillar.

Then slowly closed his eyes.

Think.

Focus.

Find the way out.

Leave.

Return home.

Forget this place.

Forget last night.

Forget the princess.

Silence.

A few seconds passed.

Then his eyes slowly opened.

Because he had just realized something.

The strange pull inside his chest had become stronger.

Much stronger.

He looked down the hallway.

Darkness stretched ahead.

Old stone.

Dust.

Cold air.

Something waited there.

He felt it.

And before he even decided—

His feet began moving.

Again.

The deeper Jungkook walked, the more the palace changed.

Gradually, signs of life disappeared.

Bright lanterns became fewer.

The polished floors vanished.

The walls lost their decorations.

Everything looked older.

Much older.

Dust rested in corners untouched by servants.

Ancient cracks spread across stone surfaces.

Cobwebs stretched quietly between forgotten pillars.

Even the air felt different here.

Colder.

Heavier.

Like stepping backward through time.

Jungkook slowed.

A strange feeling settled over him.

This place...

Why did it feel familiar?

He frowned slightly.

That made no sense.

He had never entered this kingdom before.

Never.

So why did each turn feel almost remembered?

Not remembered exactly.

Recognized.

As if some hidden part of himself had walked these halls long ago.

His heartbeat slowly quickened.

The pull inside his chest grew stronger.

Stronger.

Stronger.

Then—

He stopped.

Completely.

At the end of the corridor stood a wall.

Nothing else.

Just a plain stone wall.

Silent.

Ancient.

Still.

Jungkook stared.

Something about it felt wrong.

No—

Not wrong.

Hidden.

Slowly, he stepped closer.

Dust shifted beneath his feet.

And then he saw it.

At the center of the wall—

A silver symbol.

Jungkook froze.

For a long moment he simply stared.

The symbol wasn't large.

But something about it felt powerful.

Ancient patterns curved around each other like moonlight carved into stone.

Beautiful.

Mysterious.

Familiar.

Too familiar.

His heartbeat suddenly skipped.

"...What is this?"

He moved closer.

Very slowly.

His eyes narrowed.

He felt it again.

That impossible familiarity.

Like remembering a dream from childhood.

Like hearing a voice from another room.

Like standing before something once deeply important—

And forgetting why.

Jungkook lifted a hand unconsciously.

Then stopped.

Wait.

What was he doing?

This was ridiculous.

He didn't know what this symbol meant.

Didn't know what this place was.

Touching strange ancient things inside enemy palaces seemed like an excellent way to create disasters.

He stared at his own hand.

Then sighed quietly.

"One touch."

Silence.

"...Just one."

Slowly—

Very slowly—

His fingertips touched the symbol.

Nothing happened.

One second passed.

Two seconds.

Three.

Silence.

Absolutely nothing.

Jungkook blinked.

Then let out a quiet breath.

"...I knew it."

He almost laughed at himself.

Ancient mysterious feelings?

Invisible pulling forces?

Ridiculous.

Clearly exhaustion had finally reached him.

He lowered his hand—

Grrrrrrr...

Everything stopped.

Jungkook froze.

The floor beneath him trembled.

His eyes widened instantly.

Then—

Grrrrrr...

The entire corridor shook.

Dust exploded downward from the ceiling.

Ancient stones groaned loudly.

Cracks raced across the walls.

"What?!"

Jungkook stepped backward immediately.

More dust rained down.

The sound echoed through the hallway like thunder trapped underground.

Then slowly—

Very slowly—

The wall moved.

Stone shifted.

Ancient mechanisms awakened.

Heavy rocks slid apart with sounds that had not echoed through these halls for centuries.

Jungkook stared.

Impossible.

The wall...

Was opening.

A hidden door.

---

Elsewhere inside the palace—

Taehyung suddenly stopped walking.

A tray slipped slightly from a servant’s hands nearby.

"Princess?"

But Taehyung barely heard them.

Her hand had moved instantly to her chest.

Her eyes widened.

Her heartbeat suddenly raced.

Fast.

Too fast.

Not fear.

Not pain.

Something else.

A strange warmth spread through her entire body.

As if some invisible thread had suddenly pulled tight.

As if somewhere—

Something had begun.

Something important.

She slowly turned.

Toward the older side of the palace.

Her breathing became quiet.

"...Why?"

No answer came.

Only that feeling.

That same feeling from last night.

Stronger now.

Much stronger.

Meanwhile

The hidden doorway finally stopped moving.

Silence returned.

Dust floated through moonlight filtering from distant windows.

Jungkook stared forward carefully.

Beyond the doorway stretched darkness.

Cold air drifted outward.

Ancient.

Still.

Waiting.

He hesitated.

Every sensible thought in his mind screamed one thing:

Leave.

Immediately.

Turn around.

Find an exit.

Forget this exists.

But...

That feeling returned.

That pull.

Stronger than before.

Calling him.

Not with words.

Not with sound.

Just certainty.

Jungkook swallowed slowly.

Then stepped forward.

One step.

Then another.

The hidden room stretched beyond him.

And instantly—

His breath caught.

Moonlight.

Silver light.

Water.

That was the first thing he saw.

Not treasure.

Not ancient weapons.

Not hidden secrets.

Just water.

Perfectly still water.

The room itself was enormous.

Far larger than it should have been.

Ancient white stone pillars rose toward ceilings hidden by darkness.

Silver markings covered the walls.

And at the center of everything—

A circular pool.

Its surface reflected moonlight from somewhere above.

But there was no visible opening.

No windows.

No sky.

And yet moonlight covered everything.

Soft.

Silent.

Beautiful.

Jungkook stepped closer.

Slowly.

Carefully.

His footsteps echoed.

The room felt alive somehow.

Not literally.

But aware.

Watching.

Waiting.

As if this place had been asleep—

And had just awakened.

Then he looked into the water.

And froze.

Because reflected on the silver surface—

For one brief moment—

He saw two figures standing there.

Not one.

Two.

A boy.

And a girl.

Wearing clothes from another time.

Standing beneath moonlight.

Together.

Jungkook's eyes widened.

He looked up instantly.

No one.

Only him.

Slowly—

Very slowly—

He looked back down.

The reflection had disappeared.

Only water remained.

Still.

Silent.

As if nothing had happened.

Jungkook stared.

"...What was that?"

No answer came.

But somewhere far beneath the water—

Something faintly glowed.

A silver light.

Deep below.

Waiting.

Watching.

Recognizing.

And somewhere else in the palace—

Princess Taehyung suddenly looked toward the ancient halls.

As if hearing a call only her heart understood.

Because destiny, once asleep for centuries...

Had finally opened its hidden door.

To be continued... 🌕🏰✨
