Chapter 5: Echoes Under Moonlight

Jungkook stood frozen in front of the hidden doorway.

For a few moments, he couldn't move.

Couldn't breathe.

Couldn't even understand what had just happened.

The ancient wall had opened.

On its own.

Slowly, he looked behind him.

The empty corridor remained silent.

No guards.

No footsteps.

Nothing.

Only darkness.

And the strange hidden passage waiting before him.

A cold wind drifted out from inside.

Not a normal breeze.

It carried something with it.

A feeling.

A strange familiarity.

As if this place was both unknown...

and somehow deeply familiar.

Jungkook frowned.

"Why does it feel like I've been here before...?" he whispered.

But that was impossible.

He had never entered this palace before tonight.

Never.

Then why did his heart feel this way?

Why did every step suddenly feel heavier?

For a moment, he thought about leaving.

He should leave.

This was dangerous.

He had come here to spy, not to wander into ancient hidden places beneath enemy territory.

If someone found him here—

Everything would be over.

But...

His feet refused to move.

Something was pulling him forward.

Not physically.

Something deeper.

Something he couldn't explain.

And before he realized it...

He stepped inside.

The hidden door slowly closed behind him.

Grrrr...

Jungkook immediately turned around.

His eyes widened.

The entrance had disappeared.

Only a solid wall remained.

Silence.

Complete silence.

For the first time that night—

Fear touched his heart.

"Great..." he muttered quietly.

"Now I'm trapped."

Slowly, he looked around.

The room was enormous.

Far larger than he expected.

The ceiling stretched high above him into darkness.

Ancient white stone pillars surrounded the room.

And directly above—

A huge circular opening in the ceiling allowed moonlight to pour inside.

Silver light flooded the chamber.

Soft.

Beautiful.

Almost unreal.

At the center of the room was still water.

Clear like glass.

Moonlight reflected across its surface, making the entire room glow.

Jungkook slowly walked closer.

His footsteps echoed softly.

Step.

Step.

Step.

The sound felt strange.

Like someone else was walking with him.

He stopped.

Silence.

Nothing.

Jungkook shook his head.

"I'm imagining things."

Still...

The uneasy feeling remained.

He looked around carefully.

Ancient symbols covered the walls.

Strange silver lines curved across the stone like flowing rivers.

Some looked like stars.

Others looked like moons.

And some symbols...

He couldn't understand at all.

He slowly raised his hand and touched one.

The moment his fingers touched the cold stone—

A sudden image flashed before his eyes.

Moonlight.

White flowers.

Laughter.

And someone smiling.

Jungkook immediately pulled his hand away.

His breathing stopped.

The image disappeared instantly.

He stared at the wall.

"What..."

Silence.

Nothing happened.

For several seconds he stood there without moving.

His heart began beating faster.

Maybe he imagined it.

Maybe tonight had become too strange.

But then—

Something caught his attention.

Words.

Ancient words carved into the wall.

He moved closer.

The writing looked old.

Very old.

The symbols were unfamiliar.

Yet strangely...

He could understand them.

As if someone was whispering the meaning directly into his mind.

Slowly he read:

"Souls separated by time... shall be reunited by fate."

Jungkook stared.

A strange chill traveled through him.

Separated by time?

Reunited?

What did that even mean?

Before he could think further—

Far away, inside the palace—

Taehyung suddenly opened her eyes.

She sat up immediately.

Her breathing felt uneven.

For a few moments, she looked around her room in confusion.

Everything was normal.

The curtains moved softly with the wind.

Moonlight entered through the windows.

Nothing had changed.

So then—

Why did her heart suddenly race?

Why did it feel like someone had whispered beside her ear?

Very softly.

Very gently.

As if calling her.

As if someone far away was reaching toward her.

Taehyung slowly placed her hand over her chest.

Her heartbeat felt strange.

Fast.

Unsteady.

And then—

A flash.

A hand.

Warm fingers.

Moonlight.

A distant voice.

"Don't forget me..."

Taehyung's eyes widened.

Suddenly she stood up.

"What was that...?"

The image disappeared immediately.

But the feeling remained.

That voice.

It felt sad.

Lonely.

And strangely familiar.

As if she had heard it before.

Long ago.

But where?

She couldn't remember.

Slowly she walked toward the balcony.

The cold night air touched her face.

And for some reason...

Her eyes moved toward the older side of the palace.

Toward the forgotten corridors.

Toward the place hidden beneath the palace itself.

Without knowing why—

Her heart hurt.

Meanwhile beneath the palace—

Jungkook continued staring at the ancient writing.

The room had grown colder.

Or maybe it only felt that way.

Something about this place felt alive.

Watching.

Waiting.

Suddenly—

Ripple.

Jungkook froze.

The water moved.

Very slightly.

He stared at it.

No wind.

No sound.

But the perfectly still water had moved.

Slowly—

Another ripple formed.

And another.

Jungkook carefully stepped closer.

The moonlight reflected across the surface.

For a moment—

Nothing happened.

Then suddenly—

Two shadows appeared.

Jungkook's eyes widened.

Two figures.

Standing beside each other.

One taller.

One smaller.

Moonlight surrounded them.

Their faces remained hidden.

But somehow—

The sight made his chest tighten.

He couldn't breathe.

He stared.

One second.

Two seconds.

Then—

The water returned to normal.

The shadows disappeared.

Silence.

Jungkook slowly stepped backward.

No.

This wasn't normal.

None of this was normal.

Who were they?

And why...

Why did it feel like he knew them?

Suddenly—

A soft whisper echoed through the room.

Very close.

Very gentle.

"You came back..."

Jungkook turned immediately.

Nothing.

No one stood there.

Only moonlight.

Only silence.

But this time—

Fear wasn't the only thing he felt.

Something else had appeared.

A strange sadness.

A strange longing.

As if a forgotten part of his heart had heard something it recognized.

And somewhere deep inside—

For reasons he couldn't understand—

His soul felt like it had begun remembering something...

It had forgotten long ago.

To be continued... 🌕✨
