Aiko stood in the hallway of Riku’s office building, her posture relaxed, her smile gentle… but her eyes were cold enough to freeze a river. Miyu Sato, the new coworker, felt a chill crawl up her spine. She had expected to meet the Shadow Princess eventually—but not like this, not with Riku standing between them holding a tray of cafeteria curry.
Riku blinked. “Aiko? What are you doing here?”
Aiko tilted her head, her smile softening. “I thought I’d surprise you for lunch.”
Riku beamed. “That’s so sweet!”
Miyu, however, saw the truth behind the smile.
She’s warning me. She knows exactly who I am.
Aiko stepped closer, her presence deceptively calm. “And who is your friend?”
Miyu straightened. “Miyu Sato. I just joined the team.”
Aiko’s eyes flicked over her—posture, breathing, stance, the faint outline of a concealed device in her blazer.
Trained. Dangerous. Not here by accident.
Riku, oblivious, gestured between them. “Miyu’s great! She’s super sharp. And she’s been asking about you, actually.”
Aiko’s smile didn’t move, but something in the air tightened.
“Oh?” she said softly. “How… curious.”

The Cafeteria Standoff
The three of them sat at a small table in the corner of the cafeteria. Riku happily ate his curry while the two women watched each other like predators circling.
Aiko placed a small bento box in front of Riku. “I made your favorite.”
Riku’s eyes sparkled. “Aiko, you’re the best.”
Miyu watched the exchange carefully.
She blends in perfectly. No wonder the world can’t find her.
Aiko turned to Miyu. “So, Miyu… what brings you to this company?”
Miyu kept her voice steady. “Career growth. And… personal research tapped the table once. A silent warning.
Riku, still eating, didn’t notice the tension thick enough to cut with a knife.

Miyu’s Slip
Trying to gather intel, Miyu leaned forward. “Riku mentioned you have incredible reflexes. Catching knives, for example.”
Riku laughed. “Yeah! She’s amazing.”
Aiko’s smile didn’t falter. “Oh, that? Just luck.”
Miyu’s eyes narrowed. “Luck doesn’t explain the energy signature I detected on your—”
She stopped herself.
Too late.
Aiko’s smile sharpened. “Energy signature?”
Riku blinked. “Energy what?”
Miyu cursed internally. She had revealed too much.
Aiko stood up slowly. “Riku, dear, could you give us a moment? I’d like to speak with Miyu privately.”
Riku shrugged. “Sure! I’ll go get dessert.”
He walked away.
The moment he was out of earshot, Aiko’s expression dropped its sweetness like a mask falling away.

The Confrontation
Aiko leaned in, voice low and deadly calm. “Who sent you?”
Miyu swallowed. “I’m not your enemy.”
“That remains to be seen.”
Miyu took a breath. “I’m with the Internal Security Bureau. We’ve been tracking the Shadow Princess for years.”
Aiko’s eyes narrowed. “And you think she’s me.”
“I know she is.”
Aiko’s blade—her hairpin—was in her hand before Miyu even saw her move. She pressed it lightly against Miyu’s wrist under the table, hidden from view.
“Then you should also know,” Aiko whispered, “that cornering me is a mistake.”
Miyu didn’t flinch. “I’m not here to arrest you. I’m here to warn you.”
Aiko paused.
“Warn me?”
Miyu nodded. “The Wolf wasn’t acting alone. Someone higher is targeting you. Someone with resources we’ve never seen.”
Aiko’s grip tightened. “Who?”
“We don’t know yet. But they’re not just after you.” Miyu’s eyes flicked toward Riku. “They’re after him.”
Aiko’s blood ran cold.

Riku Returns
Riku returned with a pudding cup. “Hey! They had the caramel kind today—”
He froze.
Aiko and Miyu were sitting perfectly still, smiling politely, but the air felt like a battlefield.
Riku blinked. “Uh… did I miss something?”
Aiko instantly softened. “Not at all. We were just getting to know each other.”
Miyu forced a smile. “Yes. Your wife is… very impressive.”
Riku grinned. “I know, right?”
Aiko stood. “Riku, let’s go home.”
Riku nodded, gathering his things.
As they walked away, Miyu called out softly:
“Aiko.”
Aiko turned.
“Whoever is coming… they won’t stop. Protect him.”
Aiko’s eyes hardened. “I always do.”

Closing Scene — The Hidden Threat
That night, after Riku fell asleep, Aiko stood on the balcony, staring at the city lights. Her blade rested in her hand, reflecting the moon.
Someone was hunting her.
Someone powerful.
Someone who knew her weaknesses.
And her greatest weakness… was sleeping peacefully in the next room.
Aiko whispered into the night:
“I won’t let anyone take this life from me. Not now. Not ever.”
Far away, in a dark room filled with monitors, a shadowy figure watched her through a surveillance feed.
A distorted voice murmured:
“Found you.”
