Lost in the shadows...

The forest is a storm of panic. Students cry, teachers shout, and the buses rumble in the distance, headlights cutting through the mist.

Teachers scramble to count heads, pulling terrified children back toward safety. The shadow that sparked the chaos seems gone, but the fear lingers.

TEACHER #1: “Everyone to the buses! Stay together!”

TEACHER #2: “We’re missing four—keep looking!”

Groups are herded back, but in the confusion, William, Raven, Jackson, and Elara are nowhere to be found.

William had darted deeper into the trees, trying to prove his bravery after the shadow appeared.

Raven, torn between fear and her stubborn pride, followed him — unwilling to admit she cared, but unable to let him go alone.

Jackson, loyal to William since childhood, chased after him without hesitation.

Elara, bold and reckless, refused to be outdone by Jackson, charging after him with defiance.

Their rivalry and pride pulled them farther and farther from the group. By the time the teachers managed to gather the rest of the students, the four had vanished into the dense forest.

Students huddle inside, whispering about the shadow. Teachers exchange grim looks, their voices low. Teacher #3: “We can’t risk staying. It’s getting dark.” The buses roar to life, leaving behind the echo of unanswered names.

William, Raven, Jackson, and Elara, standing breathless among towering trees. The forest is darker now, heavier, alive with unseen eyes.

William (trying to sound confident): “Relax. We’ll find our way back.” Raven (coldly): “You don’t even know where we are.” Jackson (snapping at Elara): “This is your fault, charging in like that.” Elara (smirking despite the fear): “Better than hiding behind your buddy.”

The tension is palpable. Four personalities, colliding in fear and pride — now alone, lost, and forced to survive together.

A distant howl echoes through the trees. The four freeze. For the first time, William’s confidence falters, Raven’s arrogance cracks, Jackson’s cool slips, and Elara’s boldness wavers.

They are alone. Lost. And the forest is watching.

The four exchange terrified looks as the low growl fades into silence. The trees loom taller, shadows stretch longer, and the air feels heavier.

William (voice cracking slightly): “It’s… it’s nothing. Probably an animal.” Raven (coldly): “Animals don’t sound like that.” Jackson (snapping): “We need to move. Sitting here makes us targets.” Elara (grinning despite the fear): “Targets? What are we, in a horror movie?”

They force themselves to walk, but every step crunches louder than it should. The forest seems endless, paths twisting back on themselves.

They stumble upon a narrow stream, moonlight glinting off the water. For a moment, relief washes over them.

William kneels, splashing his face. William: “See? Civilization’s not far. Streams lead somewhere.” Raven (arms crossed): “Or nowhere. You’re guessing.” Their tension simmers

Meanwhile, Jackson and Elara argue over which direction to follow. Jackson: “We head downstream. Basic survival.” Elara: “Or we climb higher. Get a view. That’s smarter.” They glare at each other, sparks flying.

The group presses on, but exhaustion sets in. Branches claw at their clothes, the cold bites at their skin.

Suddenly — another sound. A rustle, heavier than footsteps. The group freezes.

Raven (whispering): “It’s following us.” William (trying to stay calm): “No… no, it’s just—” The growl returns, louder this time. Closer.

They break into a run, crashing through the underbrush. Breathless, panicked, they don’t stop until they collapse against a fallen tree.

The four huddle together, panting. Silence returns, but the fear lingers.

Elara (quietly, almost admitting): “We’re not getting out tonight.” Jackson (reluctantly agreeing): “We’ll have to stay here. Just… survive the night.”

William and Raven exchange a look — his bravado gone, her arrogance softened. Jackson and Elara sit apart, still glaring, but their closeness betrays something unspoken.

The four small figures against the vast, endless forest. The growl echoes once more, distant but deliberate.

They are not alone.
