The Forest's Game

EXT. FOREST – SUNSET

As the sun dips, the forest grows colder. The group collapses near another clearing, exhausted.

The silence is broken by a sound — faint, rhythmic, like chanting carried on the wind. Too distant to understand, too close to ignore.

William (whispering, shaken): “We’re not alone.” Raven (quiet, almost trembling): “No… we never were.”

The chanting fades, replaced by the rustle of unseen movement. The forest breathes, waiting.

As darkness falls, the group realizes something horrifying: the clearing they’ve chosen looks exactly like the one they left that morning. Same fallen tree. Same twisted branches. Same pulsing symbols.

They haven’t moved at all.

Jackson (voice breaking): “We’ve been walking in circles… all day.” Elara (whispering): “No. Not circles. A trap.”

The darkness of night falls and the another day begins......

The four wake to the same clearing they collapsed in the night before. But something is wrong. The fallen tree is gone. The symbols carved into the bark have shifted — now forming different shapes.

Raven (whispering): “It’s changing.” William (shaken): “Or we’re losing our minds.”

They walk again, determined to escape. But the forest plays tricks:

Jackson swears he hears rushing water, but when they follow the sound, it vanishes.

Elara sees sunlight breaking through the canopy, but when they reach it, it’s only more trees.

William finds footprints in the soil — human, fresh — but they lead in circles.

Raven insists she hears voices calling their names, but no one else does.

Every path leads back to where they started.

– AFTERNOON

Hunger and exhaustion deepen. The group begins to unravel.

William grows paranoid, convinced someone is watching them.

Raven grows quiet, withdrawn, muttering about “patterns” in the trees.

Jackson lashes out, accusing Elara of leading them astray.

Elara fights back, but her defiance is hollow — she’s just as shaken.

The forest seems to feed on their fear, twisting their senses.

-SUNSET

As the sun dips, the forest grows colder. Shadows lengthen unnaturally.

They stumble upon another clearing — identical to the one they left. Same fallen tree. Same symbols. Same silence.

Jackson (voice breaking): “We’ve been walking all day… and we’re back here again.” Elara (whispering): “No. Not back. It’s different. Look.”

The symbols carved into the tree now glow faintly, pulsing like a heartbeat.

The group huddles together, terrified. The forest whispers — faint, rhythmic, like chanting carried on the wind.

Raven (quiet, trembling): “It’s playing with us.” William (grim): “No… it’s trapping us.”

The four small figures surrounded by endless, shifting trees. The forest breathes, alive, intelligent, and cruel.

The group collapses near a clearing.

Then — a sound. Faint, rhythmic, like chanting carried on the wind. As Raven lingers near the tree with shifting symbols, she hears her name carried on the wind. “Raven… stay… stay…” The voice is melodic, almost gentle, but the repetition feels wrong — like it’s trying to bind her to the forest.

William hears faint laughter, echoing like his own voice. “William… you lead them… nowhere.” The words sting, mocking his attempts at leadership, feeding his insecurity.

When Elara sees the pale figure vanish among the trees, a whisper brushes her ear. “Elara… higher… higher… climb…” It tempts her toward her own idea of escape, but the tone feels manipulative, urging her into danger.

Jackson grips his branch like a weapon, the voice comes low, guttural. “Jackson… fight… fight… fight…” It pushes his aggression, trying to fracture the group’s fragile

Too distant to understand, too close to ignore.

William (whispering, shaken): “We’re not alone.” Raven (quiet, almost trembling): “No… we never were.”

William’s concern for Raven grows when he sees her shaken by the voice. He doesn’t say much, but his protective glance lingers.

Jackson, despite his rivalry, instinctively steadies Elara when she falters after hearing hers. Their hands brush, and for a moment, the hostility softens.

The chanting fades, replaced by the rustle of unseen movement.
