ep 5

On the other side of town, Jungkook was sitting in his office, completely lost in a maze of deep, unsettling thoughts. A heavy, suffocating silence filled the room. Gently closing his sleek laptop, he leaned back into his leather chair and let his tired gaze drift toward a beautiful wooden photo frame sitting on his desk. It was a cherished picture of him and Kookie, smiling brightly during simpler times. To the world, JK was Kookie's uncle, but deep down, their bond was pure, fatherly affection. Kookie was actually his late brother and sister-in-law's son, but JK loved and protected him just like his own child.

A bittersweet smile touched Jungkook's lips as he murmured softly to himself, "For the past few days, Kookie has been incredibly happy, doing everything completely on his own. Going to school right on time, finishing his meals without making any trouble—he hasn't thrown a single tantrum. It has been so long since I last saw him this lively and energetic."

His sharp eyes suddenly filled with a lingering sadness as dark memories flashed before him. "Ever since my parents passed away, he grew up far too fast. Losing his grandparents and his own parents left a deep scar on his little heart. He started behaving too maturely for his tender age, acting cold at times, and pushing everyone away. Even building a close friendship between us took so much painful time. Kookie would rarely smile or talk to anyone anymore. But above all, my immense work pressure got the best of me, and I miserably failed to give him the time and love he truly deserved."

With a heavy, painful sigh, JK closed his eyes tightly, a sudden wave of pure physical and mental exhaustion washing over his handsome face. The room plunged right back into a dead silence, broken only by the faint, rhythmic tapping of someone typing relentlessly on a phone.

Suddenly, a woman's sharp voice cut through the quietness. "Yes, I have noticed that sudden change in him too."

She finally looked away from her bright phone screen, her eyes locking onto JK with an unreadable, calculating expression. Stepping elegantly across the room, she spoke up again, her tone carrying a heavy hint of overconfidence. "Maybe his good mood is because of that expensive new car toy, or some other fancy gadget. Or perhaps... it's because of those special handmade cookies I gave him, which he absolutely loves so much."

Saying this, the girl gracefully stood up from the plush sofa and walked over to stand right in front of JK’s large executive desk. Leaning forward slightly, she smirked, trying hard to catch his downcast eyes. "What do you say, JK? Should I handle him from now on? He will surely start accepting me as his mother very soon, you’ll see. I can do it easily."

Jungkook didn't say a single word. His face remained a cold, unreadable mask. Slowly, he got up from his chair, turning his back completely on her as he walked over to the large glass window to watch the sun setting beautifully at the edge of the busy city. The golden rays highlighted the sharp, tense lines of his jaw, but his eyes were filled with pure, unspoken disdain.
