Chapter 4:

Foul Play

Thomas (Alaric) POV:

The pain form the electric shock was real. The gate has actually turned into a wall now, and we can't go out anymore. I and Kate (Callie) felt devastated by this and went back to the cafeteria.

"Believe me now?" Isabel (Valerie) asked in annoyance.

We both just nodded. I want to leave here instantly.

"That bloody Devin!" Isabel groaned.

"But how is it his fault? If we were supposed to be trapped here than him writing a fake name wouldn't be of help either." I tried to explain.

I could see Richa giving her a curious and dark glance. The students there were also looking at her, waiting for her reply, as they were all confused too.

"Um... seriously. None of you know about the wall's system?" Isabel asked.

She looked at all of us as if we were some brainless fools. Richa instantly stood up and grabbed her wrist to demand answers.

"How do you know then?" Richa asked.

"Because I have something called, brain." Isabel replied and jerked her away.

After an eye roll, Isabel walked away from there, as I stood there, still confused and helpless. Kate nudged me to walk away, after Isabel as I nodded and we both were about to go from there but Richa stepped in between.

"Who is that girl?" Richa asked darkly.

"Just our friend...why?" Kate said cautiously.

"Nothing." Richa shook her head and walked away.

She looked very odd, but right now we had to talk with Isabel and sort things out with her and Devin. We also had to figure out about the wall and how to escape now.

Kate (Callie) POV:

I don’t know why Isabel blames Devin for getting stuck here, but she seemed pretty serious. Even Richa looked slightly panicked when Isabel talked about the wall's system... but why, I can't figure out.

Walking along with Thomas, we both went back to the room we were assigned and sat down to talk. Once everyone was there, Thomas explained the situation. However, Olivia (Sam) just chuckled.

"You all are overthinking. It's evening and this place is in between of wilds, maybe that's why there are walls with electric system, to keep wild animals away." Olivia explained.

Well... that makes more sense than being trapped. Yet... I can't shake off the uneasy feeling in my chest. The way Richa's eyes darkened, and she panicked slightly, just because of Isabel's few words about the wall.

"Possible. Then let's wait till the morning." Isabel spoke.

We all nodded. Devin, however, seemed a bit sour. Most probably because of Isabel blaming him.

After a few minutes, there was a knock on our door. Isabel wanted to open the door, but she was still injured, so Thomas went to open it. On the other side was a maid, with a food cart, full of snacks.

"Miss Isabel, the snacks are sent especially for you, since you're injured." The maid told.

"Tell miss Richa, I don’t eat food from unknown origins." Isabel said with a knowing smile.

The maid looked a little puzzled and scared, but didn't argue and just left.

Isabel was harsh, but that's how she is, she doesn't eat anything from people she didn't know, without a proper inspection. No idea why she is so suspicious about everything.

I had some snacks, but my heart was beating too fast to stay calm. Through the window, I saw a garden outside with swings and decided to go. It was 6:50 pm, I will be back on time, thinking this, I left the room.

The sunset scenery was gorgeous, as I sat on the swing. Barely 5 minutes had passed, when two boys appeared in front of me, with a knife in their hands.

"Well, well~ the new student huh. Do you believe it'll be your last day today?~" One of them said in a very creepy voice and a smirk.

"W... what do you mean?" I asked back.

"You have 5 more minutes until the foul play starts. Run before that, or we'll end you right here." The other one replied, looking a bit annoyed.

Before I could register the words, both of them fainted with a THUD, leaving me in shock. Then I saw Isabel walking over them, and sit on the swing next to me.

"Relax. Stay here as long as you want, I'm here for you." She said with a warm, comforting smile.

Her words soothe my uneasiness, as I smiled back. I continued swinging, until an ear piercing sound, crashed our ears. It was a bell, very loud bell. Withing seconds, we were surrounded by many other students, some girls and some boys. Somehow, Isabel was still very calm.

"Ohh~ the new girl who made the principal panic. How nice would it be to die here~" One of the boy says, sending chills down my spine.

"And what makes you think you're capable of that?" Isabel spoke with a yawn.

"Bell, you're injured." I whispered to her, which she just shrugged.

They looked at her with dirty eyes, then at me, but suddenly their eyes widened, and they took an involuntary step back. I was confused, but then I looked at Isabel... she was holding a pistol.

"Where did you get this?!" I asked.

"We were going to explore wilds. Some defense is required, right." Isabel replied.

Before I could process everything. She shot behind her, one of the guys groaned in pain, holding his inner thigh.

"Oops~ I missed~" Isabel said in mock cockiness.

I saw them all take another step back... but, hurting someone is not good, why'd they do such a thing. As if reading my thoughts, Isabel spoke up.

"This is Foul Play what Richa was talking about. Where all illegal things are legal."

My heart dropped hearing that. As I just realized, how dangerous can it be. Isabel got up from the swing and held my hand. She had a warm smile on, which was very comforting. I didn't know how could she give off such a smile in this dangerous situation, but it's something only she could do. I could see the students who were surrounding us, feel uneasy, but Isabel cared the least, as she signaled me to start walking. One or two of them tried to stop us, but Isabel shot their foot and started running along with me. Despite the injury, she was fast enough to win a race... and her smile... it was all I needed to ease my uneasiness.

Within a minute or two, we were back in our room as Isabel locked up the door as well as the windows.
