Episode 5: A Message at Midnight

"Sometimes the simplest message can make your heart beat faster than ever before." 💌✨

The small piece of paper Arjun had given her remained safely tucked inside Riya's notebook.

Throughout the day, she had looked at it more times than she cared to admit.

His phone number.

A simple string of digits.

Yet somehow, it felt more valuable than anything else she carried.

Every time she thought about sending him a message, her heart began racing.

What would she say?

Would she sound awkward?

Would he think she was texting him too soon?

Or worse, what if he didn't reply at all?

The thought made her nervous.

By evening, she had typed at least ten different messages.

"Hi Arjun."

Delete.

"Hope you got home safely."

Delete.

"It was nice talking to you today."

Delete.

Nothing felt right.

Finally, she gave up and tossed her phone onto the bed.

"Why is this so difficult?" she groaned.

Her younger sister, Meera, looked up from her book.

"What's difficult?"

"Nothing."

"You're smiling at your phone."

"I'm not."

"You are."

"No, I'm not."

Meera grinned.

"There's definitely a boy involved."

Riya immediately threw a pillow at her.

Meera laughed and ran out of the room.

The rest of the evening passed slowly.

Riya tried watching a movie.

She couldn't focus.

She tried reading.

She kept rereading the same paragraph.

Even her favorite songs couldn't distract her.

Her thoughts always returned to Arjun.

The way he smiled.

The way he listened carefully whenever she spoke.

The way talking to him felt effortless.

By midnight, the house was completely silent.

Everyone was asleep.

Riya sat by her bedroom window, looking at the stars.

The cool night breeze gently moved the curtains.

Her phone rested beside her.

She picked it up.

Opened his contact.

Stared at it.

Then locked her phone again.

Still no message.

Still no courage.

The clock read 11:47 PM.

Maybe tomorrow.

Just as she placed her phone on the table, it vibrated.

Her heart nearly jumped out of her chest.

A new message.

Unknown Number.

Her hands suddenly felt shaky.

She opened it.

Arjun:

"Hi, Riya. I hope I gave my number to the right person." 😊

For a moment, she simply stared at the screen.

Then a huge smile appeared on her face.

He texted first.

The nervousness she had been carrying all day instantly disappeared.

She quickly sat up.

Then spent the next five minutes deciding what to reply.

After several failed attempts, she finally typed:

Riya:

"Luckily, you did." 😊

A few seconds later, three dots appeared.

He was typing.

Her heart raced.

Arjun:

"Good. I was beginning to worry."

Riya:

"About what?"

Arjun:

"That fate had brought us together, but technology might separate us."

Riya burst into laughter.

She covered her mouth so she wouldn't wake anyone.

Only Arjun could say something like that.

The conversation continued.

One message became ten.

Ten became fifty.

Soon they were talking as though they had known each other for years.

They discussed everything.

Favorite foods.

Favorite movies.

Dream destinations.

Childhood memories.

Embarrassing school stories.

At one point, Arjun confessed that he had once tripped on stage during a school performance in front of hundreds of people.

Riya laughed so hard that tears formed in her eyes.

Then she shared her own embarrassing story.

By the end of it, both of them were laughing uncontrollably through text messages.

Hours passed.

Neither wanted the conversation to end.

At 12:56 AM, Arjun sent a message.

Arjun:

"Can I ask you something?"

Riya stared at the screen.

Riya:

"Sure."

A few moments passed.

Then his reply appeared.

Arjun:

"Do you believe in fate?"

The question caught her by surprise.

She thought for a moment.

Then typed:

Riya:

"I never really did before."

Almost immediately, his reply arrived.

Arjun:

"And now?"

Riya looked out her window.

The stars shone brightly above the sleeping city.

A smile formed on her face.

Riya:

"Now I'm not so sure."

Several seconds passed.

Then came Arjun's response.

Arjun:

"I think some people are meant to meet."

Riya felt her heart skip a beat.

She read the message again.

And again.

There was something about those words.

Something that felt deeper than a simple conversation.

At 1:23 AM, another message appeared.

Arjun:

"Can I tell you something?"

Her pulse quickened.

Riya:

"Of course."

His reply came slowly this time.

As though he was carefully choosing his words.

Finally, the message appeared.

Arjun:

"When I saw you that day on the street, I had a feeling we'd meet again."

Riya stared at the screen.

Her smile softened.

Because she had felt exactly the same way.

Without realizing it, she placed her hand over her heart.

It was beating faster than ever.

Not because of the message.

But because of how much it meant to her.

Outside, the world remained quiet.

The moon hung high in the sky.

The city slept peacefully.

But inside her room, a new chapter was unfolding.

One message.

One conversation.

One midnight connection.

And somehow, everything felt different.

For the first time in a long while, Riya couldn't wait for tomorrow.

Because tomorrow meant seeing Arjun again.

And for the first time, she allowed herself to wonder...

Could this be the beginning of something special?

To Be Continued... ❤️✨
