THE SECRET OF TWIN'S AND THEIR CHILDHOOD FRIEND

...CHAPTER 4...

...LINES DRAWN...

The rest of the morning passed in a blur of classes, but the atmosphere around the three of them never quite settled. Whispers had already started spreading about the new transfer student and how she’d approached the Kim twins. Some were curious, others envious — but no one dared to say anything directly, not when V and Taehyung carried themselves with such quiet authority.

Lunch Break

The cafeteria was bustling, but the table at the far corner was always left mostly empty — reserved for the twins and Jungkook. They sat as usual: Jungkook in the middle, V on his left, Taehyung on his right. Jungkook was chatting animatedly, waving his chopsticks around as he told a story, while the twins listened, occasionally adding a comment or reaching over to pick food from his plate like it was the most normal thing in the world.

It was a familiar sight to everyone — but today, it didn’t go undisturbed.

Soo-jin walked over, carrying her own tray, her expression bright and determined. She stopped right beside their table, ignoring the curious glances from other students nearby.

“Mind if I join you?” she asked, smiling sweetly. “I don’t really know anyone else yet, and it feels lonely sitting alone.”

Jungkook paused mid-sentence, raising an eyebrow. Before he could reply, V spoke up, his voice calm but carrying a sharp edge that made it clear he wasn’t asking.

“We do mind.”

The words were simple, but they cut through the noise around them. Soo-jin’s smile faltered, but she pressed on, turning her attention mostly to Taehyung, hoping he’d be more lenient.

“Come on, just for a little while? I really want to get to know you both better. I’ve heard so many amazing things about your family’s business, and I think we could have a lot to talk about.”

Taehyung leaned back in his chair, crossing his arms over his chest, his expression polite but completely closed off. “I’m sure you have plenty of classmates you can talk to. We prefer to keep our circle small.”

“Besides,” Jungkook chimed in, taking a bite of his food, his tone casual but firm, “we’re pretty boring when we’re together. Just three guys eating and talking. Not exactly exciting company.”

Soo-jin’s eyes flicked from Jungkook to the twins, and for the first time, there was a hint of frustration in her voice. “Is it always like this? You three are always together, like you don’t want anyone else around. Don’t you ever get tired of just each other?”

The air at the table shifted instantly. The casual, easy atmosphere vanished, replaced by something heavy and cold. V set down his chopsticks slowly, his dark eyes locking onto hers — and there was no warmth there anymore.

“Whether we get tired or not is none of your concern,” he said, his voice low enough that only those close by could hear, but dripping with quiet warning. “And for the record? We don’t want anyone else around. Not because we’re unfriendly, but because we have everything we need right here.”

He reached out, his hand resting naturally over Jungkook’s where it lay on the table — a simple gesture, but one that spoke volumes. Taehyung mirrored the action, placing his hand over Jungkook’s other wrist, his gaze equally sharp.

Soo-jin’s eyes widened slightly as she saw it — the way they touched him, the way they looked at him, like he was the center of their world. It wasn’t just friendship. No one looked at a friend like that.

“I… I don’t understand,” she said, her voice quieter now. “You’re the Kim twins — everyone wants to be close to you. Why would you choose to limit yourselves like this?”

“Because what we have is ours,” Taehyung said plainly, no longer bothering to keep up appearances completely. “And we don’t share what’s ours with anyone who doesn’t belong.”

Jungkook looked up at her, his usual bright smile softening into something more serious, but still kind. “Look, Soo-jin. It’s nothing personal. But we’ve been together since we were kids. We have our own way of doing things. It’s better if you just… find your own place here, okay? There are lots of other people who would love to be friends with you.”

But Soo-jin’s pride was clearly stung. She looked from their joined hands to their unyielding faces, and her expression hardened. “So that’s it? You’re just going to shut me out without even giving me a chance?”

V stood up slowly, his height and presence immediately drawing even more attention. “We’ve given you your answer. Now please — leave us alone.”

His tone left no room for argument. Soo-jin stood there for another second, her jaw tight, before she let out a small huff and turned on her heel, walking away quickly, though not without throwing one last confused, hurt glance over her shoulder.

As soon as she was gone, the tension at the table eased slightly, but not completely. V sat back down, letting out a short breath, while Taehyung shook his head in amusement.

“She’s persistent, I’ll give her that,” Taehyung said, picking up his drink again. “But she doesn’t know when to stop.”

Jungkook chuckled, turning his hand over under V’s to lace their fingers together. “You two were pretty harsh. Poor girl probably has no idea what hit her.”

V squeezed his hand, his expression softening immediately as he looked at Jungkook, all the sharpness from earlier melting away. “She needed to know where the line is drawn. We can’t have her getting any ideas.”

“Besides,” Taehyung added, leaning in to brush a stray lock of hair behind Jungkook’s ear, his voice dropping to a warm murmur, “we don’t like it when someone tries to insert themselves where they don’t belong. Especially when they think they can come between us.”

Jungkook rolled his eyes playfully, but he leaned into the touch anyway. “As if anyone could ever do that. You two are practically glued to me.”

“Exactly,” V said with a small, satisfied smirk. “And that’s exactly how it’s going to stay.”

After School

The school day finally ended, and the three of them walked out together toward the waiting car that always came to pick them up. The sun was beginning to set, painting the sky in soft oranges and purples, and the crowd of students slowly thinned out.

Just as they were about to reach the car, Soo-jin appeared again, standing a little ways off, watching them. This time, she didn’t approach — she just looked, her expression a mix of confusion and something else, like she was finally starting to understand.

Jungkook caught her eye and gave a small, polite nod, but that was all. He didn’t invite her over, didn’t say anything more. V and Taehyung didn’t even glance in her direction; they simply opened the car door, waited for Jungkook to get in, and followed right after him, the door closing firmly behind them, shutting out the rest of the world.

Back at the Kim Residence

The moment the car pulled away and they were alone in the quiet of the house, the earlier formality vanished completely. The doors were locked, the curtains drawn, and the three of them were free to be exactly who they were.

Jungkook barely had time to take off his shoes before V pulled him gently but firmly against the wall, his hands resting on either side of Jungkook’s head, trapping him in place. Taehyung stood close behind, his chest pressing against Jungkook’s back, caging him in between them.

“Y’know,” Taehyung murmured, his lips brushing the sensitive spot just below Jungkook’s ear, “watching her try so hard to get our attention… it made me realize something.”

“What’s that?” Jungkook asked, his voice already losing its edge, his eyes fluttering shut as he felt their warmth surround him.

V leaned in, his nose brushing against Jungkook’s, his dark eyes burning with familiar heat. “That we need to make sure you remember exactly who you belong to. Just in case you ever start forgetting.”

Jungkook laughed softly, tilting his head back against Taehyung’s shoulder. “As if I could ever forget. But… I’m not going to complain if you want to remind me.”

“That’s our good boy,” Taehyung whispered, his hands sliding under Jungkook’s shirt, warm and firm against his skin.

And just like that, the earlier drama and tension from school faded away, replaced by the familiar, heavy warmth that only existed between the three of them — no secrets, no outsiders, just them, exactly as they always were.
