CHAPTER:FOUR

Down the hall, the elevator doors let out a mechanical groan. The syndicate’s strike team had arrived at the penthouse floor. Six men in black tactical gear stepped out, night-vision goggles lowered, rifles raised. They expected a dark, defenseless penthouse and a tech billionaire caught off guard.

Instead, every single light in the penthouse suddenly flashed an blinding, brilliant white.

"Now, Julian!" Ethan shouted.

Simultaneously, Ethan’s code overrode the hijacked ceiling turrets. The automated security system swiveled 180 degrees, instantly identifying the syndicate mercenaries as unauthorized targets. A hail of non-lethal, high-velocity rubber rounds and blinding strobe lights erupted from the ceiling, throwing the strike team into absolute chaos.

Julian didn't hesitate. He moved like a shadow incarnate. Slipping out of the bedroom, he used the flashing lights and the mercenaries' confusion to his absolute advantage. Two muffled shots echoed through the corridor, and the first two intruders dropped before they even realized the master of the house was in the room.

From the desk, Ethan watched the tactical camera feed on his monitor. His heart was hammering, a wild, erratic rhythm that he knew was sending frantic alerts to Julian's phone via his ankle cuff. He didn't care. He was watching his lover—his beautiful, ruthless protector—systematically dismantle the threat.

But then, Ethan’s screen flashed a secondary warning.

EXTERNAL HACK IN PROGRESS: DATA CORE SECTOR 7.

Ethan's eyes widened. The physical strike team was just a distraction. The syndicate’s lead hacker was currently in a van downstairs, using the chaos to breach Julian's private vault to steal the core software.

"Not on my watch," Ethan hissed.

He didn't just defend the vault; he went on the offensive. He traced the incoming IP address, bypassed their proxy servers in Luxembourg, bounced through a ghost network in Tokyo, and slammed directly into the hacker's laptop down in the street.

Ethan’s fingers blurred. He didn't just stop the download; he executed a hardware-destroying virus. On a remote street below the skyscraper, the syndicate’s expensive server arrays inside their surveillance van suddenly short-circuited, sparks flying as the screens melted into blue static.

"Goodbye," Ethan whispered, slamming the enter key one final time to lock down their entire network.

The hallway outside went dead silent.

Ethan stood up from the desk, his legs slightly shaky from the sheer comedown of the adrenaline. He walked out into the corridor. The air smelled of ozone, gunpowder, and expensive cologne.

Julian was standing in the center of the ruin, his suit jacket discarded, the sleeves of his white shirt rolled up to his forearms, stained with a few drops of dark blood. He was breathing heavily, his pale gray eyes searching the darkness until they locked onto Ethan.

In three strides, Julian crossed the distance. He dropped the gun onto the floor and slammed Ethan against the wall, his hands gripping Ethan’s waist with a force that would surely leave bruises tomorrow.

"Are you hurt?" Julian growled, his face buried in Ethan’s neck, inhaling his scent as if checking to ensure he was still real, still alive, still his. "Your heart rate on my monitor went through the roof. I almost threw myself in front of a bullet just to get back to you faster."

Ethan wrapped his arms tightly around Julian’s neck, burying his face in Julian's shoulder. He was trembling, but it wasn't from fear. It was from the terrifying, beautiful certainty that this man would burn the world to ashes just to keep him safe.

"I'm fine," Ethan whispered fiercely, his lips finding Julian’s jaw line. "I destroyed their network. They won't come back."

Julian pulled back just enough to look into Ethan’s eyes. The possessive, dark hunger in his gaze was terrifying, but Ethan met it with equal intensity.

"They looked at you through the security cameras," Julian whispered, his thumb pressing hard against Ethan's lower lip. "They saw what is mine. Tomorrow, we are changing every encryption, every lock, and I am adding three more deadbolts to that front door. You are never leaving this penthouse, Ethan."

Ethan smiled, a beautiful, dark expression of absolute submission and love. He leaned up, pressing his lips against Julian's.

"Whatever you say, Julian," Ethan whispered against his mouth. "Lock the door."
