EPISODE FIVE

The gunshot was followed by silence.

Then chaos.

Glass exploded inward as another round hit the window frame.

“Move!” Tae-hyun’s voice cut through the noise.

For the first time, it wasn’t calm.

It was sharp.

Commanding.

Real danger.

Before Ji-eun could react, Tae-hyun grabbed his wrist.

Warm hand. Strong grip.

Too firm to be escape.

Not enough to hurt.

“Don’t resist,” he said.

“I’m not going anywhere with you!”

Another shot rang out.

This one hit the wall inches from Ji-eun’s head.

Doctor Yoon pulled him back instantly.

“You have to trust him!” the old man shouted.

Ji-eun turned, shocked.

“What?”

But Tae-hyun didn’t wait.

He pulled Ji-eun behind him and moved.

Fast.

Controlled.

Like he had memorized every exit in the building before stepping inside.

The apartment door burst open behind them—

Men in black flooded the hallway.

Not Black Serpents.

Different.

Ruthless.

Unmarked.

Tae-hyun’s jaw tightened.

“So it’s them.”

He shoved Ji-eun toward the back stairs.

“Run.”

“I said I’m not—”

Tae-hyun turned.

Just for a second.

And looked at him.

Really looked.

Something unreadable flickered in his eyes.

“…Ji-eun.”

His voice dropped.

Low.

Almost dangerous in a different way.

“If you die here…”

A pause.

“I’ll lose something I haven’t named yet.”

Ji-eun froze.

For the first time—

He didn’t argue.

---

They ran.

Down the emergency stairs.

Rain hit them the moment they burst out the back exit.

Cold.

Heavy.

Blinding.

Ji-eun slipped.

Tae-hyun caught him instantly.

Their bodies collided.

Too close.

Too sudden.

Ji-eun looked up—

And for a moment, neither of them moved.

Rain soaked through Tae-hyun’s suit.

His hand was still on Ji-eun’s waist.

Neither let go.

The world behind them was gunfire and shouting.

But here—

It was only breath.

Ji-eun swallowed hard.

“…Why are you helping me?”

Tae-hyun didn’t answer immediately.

His thumb shifted slightly at Ji-eun’s side—steadying him.

Not letting him fall.

Or run.

“I told you,” he said quietly.

“I found you first.”

Ji-eun’s heart pounded.

“That’s not an answer.”

Tae-hyun leaned closer.

Just enough that Ji-eun could feel his breath against his skin.

Rain, smoke, danger… and something heavier underneath it.

“Then don’t think of it as helping,” he murmured.

A pause.

“Think of it as reclaiming what was taken from me.”

Ji-eun’s breath caught.

For a second—

Too close.

Too quiet.

Too much tension in too little space.

Tae-hyun’s hand tightened slightly at his waist.

Not pulling him closer.

Not letting him go.

A balance.

Control.

Restraint.

Then—

A loud crash echoed from the building.

Tae-hyun’s eyes sharpened instantly.

“We leave now.”

He released Ji-eun—but only to grab his hand instead.

Fingers locked.

No escape.

Not gentle.

Not rough.

Final.

They ran into the rain together.

And Ji-eun didn’t notice—

That he never once tried to pull his hand away.

---

Somewhere far behind them, in the chaos of broken glass and gunfire…

A shadow watched them disappear.

And smiled.

“We finally found him.”
