Fell for My Ex's Brother

Fell for My Ex's Brother

The Anniversary Surprise

The delicate, sweet scent of vanilla candles filled the cozy apartment, but Chloe’s hands wouldn't stop shaking. Tonight was her three-year anniversary with Marcus. For the past five hours, she had poured her heart into making everything flawless. She had painstakingly cooked his favorite four-course meal, set the table with their finest silverware, and bought a silk emerald dress that had drained the last of her monthly savings. She had spent the last hour pacing the hardwood floors, constantly checking the mirror, waiting anxiously for the sound of his key in the lock.

Instead of a key, her phone buzzed with a harsh, jarring vibration against the marble kitchen counter.

Chloe frowned, picking it up, expecting a text from Marcus saying he was stuck in traffic. It wasn’t a text. It was an anonymous direct message from an account with no profile picture.

“Your boyfriend is a very generous man. Thought you should see what he’s actually spending his family's money on while you sit at home.”

Attached was a high-definition video file. Chloe’s breath instantly caught in her throat as she hit play. The setting was unmistakable: the ultra-exclusive VIP lounge of The Obsidian, the most expensive club in the city. There, sitting in a dimly lit velvet booth, was Marcus. His arm was wrapped tightly around a woman Chloe recognized with a sickening jolt—Mia, her own bitter college rival.

Marcus was laughing, his face flushed from expensive champagne. Chloe watched in horror as he leaned down, pressing a sloppy, passionate kiss against Mia's neck. But the final dagger came when Marcus pulled a velvet box from his pocket and slipped a glittering diamond bracelet onto Mia's wrist. It was the exact bracelet Chloe had pointed out in a boutique window months ago—the one Marcus had called "tacky and overpriced" when she asked for it.

Chloe’s world shattered into a million jagged pieces. The three years of sacrificing her own career to support his, the lonely nights waiting up for him, the endless excuses she had made to her friends for his coldness—all of it was a beautifully wrapped lie. A tear slipped down her cheek, burning hot against her skin.

Suddenly, three heavy, deep knocks echoed through the quiet apartment.

Chloe gasped, wiping her eyes frantically. Her heart hammered against her ribs like a trapped bird. Was it Marcus? Had he actually come home? Was there somehow an explanation for this?

Summoning every ounce of courage she had left, she pulled open the door, a defensive, angry accusation trembling on her tongue. But the moment the door swung wide, the words died completely in her throat.

It wasn’t Marcus.

Standing in the dimly lit hallway was a tall, imposing figure who looked like he had been sculpted from marble. Draped in a perfectly tailored charcoal Tom Ford suit, with broad shoulders that completely filled the frame, was Ethan Vance. Marcus’s billionaire older brother and the ruthless CEO of Vance Enterprises.

Ethan looked down at her, his piercing, dark eyes instantly tracking the fresh tear stain on her cheek. His powerful jaw tightened into a hard, dangerous line.

"Where is Marcus?" Ethan asked, his voice low, deep, and laced with an icy authority that made Chloe’s knees go weak.
