Episode 3 Weekends

My residence is close to the sea and the beach has beautiful white sand. Every weekend there are definitely a few families outside the neighborhood coming up for a picnic on the beach. I do not like the beach conditions in the afternoon because it is very hot. I will go to the beach together with mom and Sonny in the afternoon. The heat of the sun at that time was a little less hot than noon. Usually when my mother and I go to the beach, we catch fish or even look for snails. Sometimes my best friend Christy will join as well. So today like every weekend, I take mom and Sonny to the beach in the afternoon. The purpose is to find seafood whether fish, crabs or snails. I was a bit lazy leaving the house without a purpose. Sometimes Christy complains that I am lazy to join her to the beach just to see the sea view.

"Chris, do you want to join us this afternoon to the beach? But not to see the view"

"Yes, I know that. I will come. But don't forget to stop by my house later?"

"Of course. Don't forget to bring all the necessities that can be used later"

"All right ma'am" She joked with me.

An hour before leaving for the sea I had already prepared the necessary tools. Steve, my younger brother also wants to participate this time. He felt bored alone at home.

"Children, it's time we left to the beach. Are you guys ready?"

"Yes mom" My little sister replied. Once everyone already in the car, we departed.

We did not forget to stop by my good friend's house.

"Chris let's hurry up"

"Yeah, yeah I am coming" said my good friend.

"Have you brought all the necessary equipment?"

"I think all the important things, I've already put them in my bag"

"That is good Christy" my mother said.

Arriving at the beach, I could see some of the outsiders cars still at the parking lots. They are having a BBQ with their family members. I slowly get out of the car.

"Where are we going to start first?" I asked my mother. She's the one to decide all the decision.

"I think we start at that side today because I saw less people went there. Less people, less disturbance we get" said my mother.

We started moving towards the place that my mother had already determined. Christy walked by my side while Steve and Sonny were on my mother’s left and right respectively. A smile appeared on each of our lips. This is an activity we love so much when we are at beach.

"Take whatever you find. Later before returning, we will choose which ones you find edible and which do not. If you find crabs, use gloves and knives okay. But be careful. Do not get hurt" said my mother's.

"Alright mom".

After that, each of us went to the area where we thought there were snails or even crabs with containers to store seafood. Christy and I headed to the mileage area looking for crabs and snails. I put on gloves and started looking for snails between rocks and even in holes. I was quite happy to find some kind of big snail.

"Chris, have you got a snail?"

"I got it. It's fun to find this snail"

"Of course it is fun. There are crabs in that hole" I pointed to a crab hiding in the hole.

"Isn't that a big crab?"

"Not sure yet. I only saw the chopsticks. I'll know the actual size after I take them"

I took a sharp-edged wire and directed it to the weak crab point. After making sure my goal will successful, I poked in the middle of the crab body as fast as I could. I did it. The crab was quite big and I directly put the crab into my bucket.

"Chris, I was able to catch crabs earlier. If you want to see it then come here" I said to Christy who was busy looking for snails not far from where I was standing. She came after hearing me call her.

"Wow ... Look at the size of the crab. You caught this? Luckily you can catch a crab that is large in size like this. There must be a lot of content, right?"

"Yes, I think so too. However, this can only be confirmed tonight after I cook"

"Nia, you are very lucky. Now it is my turn to find a crab bigger than yours" She said while looking at every hole in front of her. I went on a hunt to find any edible seafood. From a distance I could see Sonny and Steve actively picking up sea snails.

"I like the atmosphere as it is now" I said to myself.

"I heard you were able to catch a big crab earlier"

"Yes I catched a big crabs. Maybe my luck to found it before anyone else, mom" She looked in the bucket and saw the crab I caught earlier.

"Wow, this crab is really big. Good job, Nia" my mother said again."

"Thank you mom"

My mother just gave me a smile. She then returned to my younger siblings. The search lasted for two and a half hours. Half of my clothes were already wet due to falling while trying to catch fish. Luckily I managed to catch the fish even though the fish was not that big. But I am still satisfied with the success. My good friend Christy is with me when our search has reached the end of the cape.

Everyone gathered near my mother's car. We showed each other bucket of seafood. Everyone has almost the same amount of revenue. Sonny and Steve were so happy to see my bucket containing a variety of seafood.

We feel very lucky because the weather today is quite good. so the search went smoothly. After that, we left.

After bathing I helped my mother in the kitchen. my mother isolates the snails and crabs to facilitate the cooking process. When all three buckets are combined, the result is quite a lot. Half of them are stored in the refrigerator. I am very satisfied with the results we get today. The crab turned out to be very full. I told Christy about that. She felt excited about it. After dinner, we all retired to bed. That is how we spend weekend with meaning activities😉.
