Episode 5 School Sports Day

That day was the first and last time we chatted as he sat next to me. In the next class I tried to avoid sitting next to him. I don't know why but I don't want to gossip with him since Rayner is one of the popular male students at school. I noticed he seemed to want to grab my attention, but I pretended not to see or did not know. If I saw him walking from the opposite direction, I would deviate to find another path even though it is far from my destination. I still have a cheerful face despite having to avoid certain people.

School sports day will soon be held. Each team house sent a representative in the parade. I joined the parade to represent The Red Crescent Team. In other words, it is our group that will be responsible for the safety of the runners later. I love this assignment. it's like giving treatment to a patient ... am I overwhelmed with thoughts ?? such dreams make me smile to myself. Especially want to be a 'Doctor'. every evening a parade training will be held. My good friend Molly also participated in the parade for the scout association. indeed that is what Molly has been waiting for all this time to wear a scout uniform.

"What about the parade association parade preparations? Smooth?" My question to Molly.

"It feels like it's still far from smooth. Because there are still a lot of mistake happened. We need a lot of practice. What about yours?

" I think we got a same problem. Really need to work hard on this"

After that short conversation, Molly and I headed to the parade training site according to our respective teams. All the team members had arrived and without any father ado, the team captain ordered us to join the line. Then all the members moved quickly in two rows facing the captain. While busy training, my intuition said someone was watching me from afar. But I don't care. I continue to focus on training.

“Okay guys rest in 5 minutes. After that we will continue the march again" said the captain. Once he done giving instructions, I continued to look for a shady place from the sunlight. As I said before, I still can feel like someone is looking at me and this time I want to know who that person is. My wild eyes looked here and there and boom ... nothing but Rayner.

"Why did he look at me like that? Is it because I did not talk to him then he looked at me like an eagle" I said in my heart. I looked away. I can not win of our staring contest.

Before the break end, I saw Molly approach Rayner with a lovely smile. I was amazed.

"Since when did people become item?" I said in my heart. But could not continue the observation because the captain had ordered us to line up.

"whatever their relationship is it has nothing to do with me. If they have a relationship it is also better so that I am not associated with gossip"I still have not left even though the training is over. My gaze was directed to the artificial pond found on the side of the school building.

"May I sit here?" I was startled by the man'ssuddenly greeting voice.

"Whattt?"

I turned to the owner of the voice and saw Rayner looking down at me with a sweet smile on his lips. I tried to speak but, Molly appeared behind him. "Sonia, can we sit with you?"

I looked at them alternately.

" Hmm sure why not?" I said shortly.

"Sonia, Rayner told me that you both take the subject of music?" Molly started a conversation.

"Yes" I replied shortly without looking at her. My attention was focused on the fish in the artificial pond.

"You must be happy to be able to play music with Rayner?"

I looked at Rayner before answering Molly's question? Rayner's face did not change or show anything.

"Emmm okay I guess. Why?" I answered briefly.

"Because you never told me you were in the same class as Rayner"

"You never asked. Maybe if you asked anyone in the class with me, I would definitely tell you"

"That's right too". We chatted for a while before I asked myself to go back.

Now the school sports day has come. The field area was colorful with decorations in each of the huts represents the team house. On school sports days parents can come and watch competitions. My duty as a member of The Red Crescent in the hut is to give first aid in the event if any athletes fainting or experience of leg cramps.

The sports event has started for the men's 100m event. I also participated in seeing the runners getting ready to run. One of the runners is none other than Rayner. I had never seen him run before. I just heard that he is popular because he is very fast running. So this time it will be proven that whether he is really fast like the rumor or not. as soon as the pistol was fired, all the runners sped off. I could see Rayner speeding away from the others. There and then I know he will win this game easyly. As many predicted, Rayner win that game.

All the teams applauded for Rayner’s victory. I also applauded with the others.

"He deserves to be so popular" I said with a smile. I went back into the tent.

"Can I have an ice pack?"

"Wait a minute," I said, turning to look at the owner of the voice. Rayner standing behind me and that startled me.

"Rayner? okay I'll get it for you" I said and give him an ice pack.

"Congratulations on your victory. I still can not believe you run that fast. But now you blowed me away"

"Thank you, Nia. Your words are so much means to me" he said with a smirk. I do not understand what he means but ignored it. After getting what he needed, Rayner left the tent and returned to his sports house.

Event after event passes. During that time sometimes I and my teammates had to go out of the tent to provide assistance. Most of their problems are leg muscle spasms. We helped by bringing them into the tent. That's what we do throughout the sport.

I started helping my seniors pack their equipment while giving away medals and prizes to the students and the winning team was underway.

"Sonia, Rayner wants to see you outside"

"All right. I'll see him and I'll be back" I said left to see Rayner outside the tent.

"Hi, congrats and nice medal by the way"

"Hi Nia. Thanks but I want to talk to you about something"

"Okay. I am listening"

"I do not want to mess with you. Will you be my girlfriend?"

I’m not sure if what I have heard just now was true or a joke. I looked at the face of the man in front of me and did not know what to say. I am speechless.
