The Devil's Vow: Book I: The Crown of Ashes

Episode 1: The Devil Returns

"Revenge isn't born in a single night... it is forged in years of silence."

The private jet pierced through the silver clouds before descending toward the glittering coastline of Monaco.

From above, the principality looked untouched by time.

Luxury yachts floated peacefully across the Mediterranean Sea, skyscrapers shimmered beneath the morning sun, and the streets below carried the elegance that had made Monaco one of the richest places on Earth.

Beautiful.

Perfect.

Exactly as he remembered.

The aircraft touched the runway with a smooth landing.

Inside the silent cabin, a man sat motionless.

Dressed in a perfectly tailored black suit, Kaivan Rey rested one hand on the armrest while his sharp grey eyes remained fixed on the city outside the window.

Fifteen years.

Fifteen long years had passed since he had last stepped foot in Monaco.

For everyone else...

Time had healed.

For him...

Time had only sharpened the blade.

The cabin door slowly opened.

Cold morning air drifted inside.

A flight attendant respectfully lowered her head.

"Sir, we've arrived."

Kaivan rose from his seat without a word.

The polished leather shoes echoed softly against the cabin floor as he walked toward the exit.

Outside...

A convoy of matte-black luxury vehicles waited beside the aircraft.

Nearly thirty men in black suits stood in perfect formation.

The moment Kaivan appeared...

Every single one lowered their heads.

"Welcome back, Boss."

Their voices echoed in unison.

Kaivan's expression didn't change.

His gaze slowly travelled across the skyline of Monaco.

The city looked peaceful.

It had no idea what had just returned.

He slipped one hand into his pocket.

His deep voice broke the silence.

"...Fifteen years."

A faint breeze brushed against his face.

"I promised I'd come back."

His eyes darkened.

"And I never break my promises."

For a brief second...

A memory flashed through his mind.

Flames.

Smoke.

A child screaming.

Blood staining marble floors.

A trembling hand reaching for him.

Then...

Darkness.

Kaivan closed his eyes.

When he opened them again...

There was no emotion left.

Only revenge.

He stepped toward the waiting Rolls-Royce.

The rear door opened automatically.

Before entering, he cast one final glance toward the horizon.

"Monaco..."

His voice was barely above a whisper.

"I'm home."

"And this time..."

"I'm taking everything."

He slid into the back seat.

The convoy began moving.

Black vehicles disappeared into the streets of Monaco like shadows.

No sirens.

No announcements.

No welcome ceremony.

Just silence.

Because the devil had returned...

And no one knew it yet.

End of Present Timeline

⟪ Fifteen Years Earlier ⟫

"Every empire is built on a promise.

Some are built to protect.

Others... are built to destroy."

Monaco.

Fifteen years ago.

Rain poured relentlessly over the cliffside estate overlooking the dark Mediterranean Sea. Thunder rolled across the sky as if nature itself had declared war.

The Rey Estate, once known as one of the most secure and prestigious homes in Europe, had become a battlefield.

Flames climbed the marble walls.

Glass shattered.

Gunfire echoed through the halls.

The smell of smoke swallowed every breath.

A young boy crouched behind an overturned grand piano, trembling as tears blurred his vision.

He couldn't have been older than fifteen.

His hands shook, but he didn't cry out.

He had already learned that making a sound meant dying.

Heavy footsteps echoed across the corridor.

Black boots.

Several men.

Their faces hidden.

One of them spoke calmly.

"Search every room."

"They're not leaving this estate alive."

The boy covered his mouth, forcing himself to stay silent.

His heartbeat thundered louder than the storm outside.

A crash echoed upstairs.

Then—

A scream.

One he knew.

His mother's.

He instinctively tried to stand.

A firm hand grabbed his shoulder.

An elderly man in a soot-covered suit looked him straight in the eyes.

Sebastian.

The family's loyal butler.

"No..." Sebastian whispered, his voice breaking. "You promised your father."

The boy clenched his fists until his nails dug into his skin.

Another gunshot echoed through the mansion.

Silence followed.

Sebastian closed his eyes for a brief second.

"We have to go."

"I can't leave them."

"You must."

Before another word could be spoken—

BOOM!

The library doors exploded inward.

Smoke rushed into the hallway.

Sebastian pulled the boy toward a hidden passage concealed behind the fireplace.

Before stepping inside...

The boy looked back one last time.

The portrait of his family hanging above the staircase was already burning.

The flames slowly consumed every smiling face.

In that moment...

Something inside him died too.

As the hidden passage sealed behind them, the mansion collapsed into an inferno.

Outside...

Far beyond the burning estate...

A black luxury sedan waited in the rain.

A man inside watched the fire from a distance.

His face remained hidden.

Only a single sentence left his lips.

"It is done."

The car disappeared into the storm.

That night...

A family was erased.

A legacy turned to ash.

And somewhere beneath the ruins...

A promise was born.

Not for justice.

Not for forgiveness.

But for revenge.
